Chapter 79: Chapter 79: Those Comments Are Obviously Organized

Julian Lancaster looked at his sister’s burning gaze and took three seconds to compose himself.

Everyone in the Lancaster family was smart, with the sole exception of Alvin Lancaster, who’d always had a screw loose.

"I never said I was going to call the police." Julian Lancaster pressed his fingers to his brow. "I’ve already spoken to Mrs. Everett about this. The money will be deducted from her salary, and the rest will be sent to her daughter for medical treatment every month."

Alvin Lancaster hung his head heavily. "Brother, I’m sorry! I misunderstood you!"

’That’s it?’ Jane Lancaster was a little disappointed.

Julian Lancaster looked at her again, his voice gentle. "Jay, I’m not against giving Mama Knight a bonus. I just thought that if I’m rewarding her by promoting her to housekeeper, a pay raise would be more logical, don’t you think?"

Alvin Lancaster was a little surprised. Promote Mama Knight to housekeeper? In the past, he would have definitely objected, believing Mama Knight wasn’t worthy and that his brother was just favoring their sister.

But now, he actually thought it wasn’t a bad idea.

Even though he felt a pang of pity for Mrs. Everett, he wasn’t deeply affected.

Jane Lancaster said, "But I don’t think Mama Knight is suitable."

’What a joke. The Lancaster family is going bankrupt sooner or later. Why would I let Mama Knight go down with your sinking ship?’

’A reward? Yeah, right. As if I’d believe a word you say!’

"It’s late. I’m going to bed. Good night." Jane Lancaster turned and left, her attitude making it clear she rejected his proposal.

"Young Master, the medicine has been brewed," a servant said, walking over with a bowl of medicine.

Julian Lancaster finished the medicine and stared thoughtfully at the dregs at the bottom of the bowl.

’So, the Lancaster family’s crisis isn’t really over, is it?’

’My stomach condition probably isn’t the key to the cancer. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so calm.’

’No, there’s another possibility. That bottle of medicine she intercepted is the key. Without it, my stomach condition will never heal.’

He had always been good at waiting, but today, he found himself becoming uncharacteristically restless and impatient.

Julian Lancaster put the medicine bowl down and immersed himself in his work, and his mood gradually calmed.

[BEEP. Character favorability change detected. Disgust Value +1]

Jane Lancaster heard the system notification and froze for a second, but she didn’t think much of it.

She couldn’t even be bothered to check such a small increase in disgust value. She just rolled over and fell asleep.

A few days later, the article from the television interview was published and even appeared in the local daily newspaper.

Although print media was in decline, the daily paper still had significant influence. Many people were discussing the matter, and there were even several copies of the paper on the coffee table at home.

On public social media accounts, there was a flood of positive comments and likes.

However, some people raised doubts.

"Why did she say she was willing to take the suspect down with her? It feels like she’s addicted to being a hero. Isn’t that selfish? Her fiancé and brothers love her so much. Did she ever think about their feelings?"

"I think it’s fake. How could anyone really be that selfless?"

"I read the details. The suspect didn’t kidnap all four girls at once; he brought them to that abandoned building one by one. I’m just saying, if he really wanted to kill someone, the first girl would have been long dead."

"I actually feel so bad for the suspect. She gets a do-over, but he still can’t escape death no matter what. What kind of deep-seated hatred is that?"

"You might get a second chance, but the suspect doesn’t. He’s dead and gone. Can you please stop exploiting the dead?"

"Anyway, I don’t think his crime deserved death... Are we sure there wasn’t an issue of excessive self-defense here?"

"I just had a wild theory. What if someone wanted to silence a person, so they deliberately provoked them into a kidnapping frenzy, then pretended to be all righteous while taking them down in a jump from a building? Wouldn’t that be the perfect crime?"

Underneath the last comment was a flood of replies like, "Holy shit, the more I think about it, the more terrifying it is!"

When Vincent Holt saw this comment, he found the hypothesis fascinating and couldn’t resist replying.

"You know, that actually sounds like something Jane Lancaster would do. She was always pretty manipulative."

A moment later, he found himself added to a group chat.

A few minutes later, he figured out what was going on.

The group’s creator, an unknown person, felt the suspect had died a pitiful death and had created the group to speak up for him.

Everyone in the group had a major problem with Jane Lancaster. They were, you could say, kindred spirits.

Someone tagged Vincent Holt: "@VincentHolt, Bro, do you know the Lancaster Witch? What was she like before?"

Vincent Holt didn’t care about the suspect at all, but since everyone here couldn’t stand Jane Lancaster, he figured he could make some friends.

He eagerly started chatting with everyone.

Then he screenshotted some of the comments and sent them to Chloe Dave. Since they all hated Jane Lancaster, they could discuss it together.

When Chloe Dave saw the screenshots, he couldn’t sit still and immediately went to find Caleb Lowell.

"Zion, I really don’t get what Jane Lancaster is thinking. Can’t she just live a quiet life?"

Chloe Dave had always felt indignant on Zion’s behalf; Jane Lancaster had never truly understood him.

"Does she just want to be a hero? Does she have to stir up a storm online? The problem is, you two are about to have your engagement party."

"She knows you grew up without a family and all you’ve ever wanted is a home, yet she says such irresponsible things. Isn’t that going too far?"

"That’s enough! Don’t say another word!" Caleb Lowell cut him off.

In truth, he had already finished reading the interview report two hours earlier.

Jane Lancaster’s answer didn’t surprise him. After all, it was this feat that had made her a hero.

What he feared was that she would develop a path dependence, coming to believe that she was always right.

That would be the biggest nightmare of his life.

——

Jane Lancaster also noticed the discrepancies in the interview article, but after a moment’s thought, she decided it wasn’t a big deal.

She herself wouldn’t have chosen to take the suspect down with her, but that was because she knew Luna Morgan was protected by the female lead’s plot armor and wouldn’t get hurt.

But she couldn’t say for sure what the original owner of this body would have chosen.

"Jay, don’t worry about that minor noise online." Julian Lancaster came home early that evening specifically to be with his sister.

"The official conclusion on this matter has already been set. Those people are just trying to get attention. I’ll have their comments deleted."

Jane Lancaster gave Julian Lancaster a meaningful look.

’Brother, you’ve seen the video. How can you be so sure those comments aren’t a problem?’

’It’s not strange for there to be dissenting voices, but those comments are clearly organized and premeditated, aren’t they?’

’Just like how those videos suddenly appeared in the hands of you and our brothers—it’s all deliberate.’

Julian Lancaster frowned. He had already dealt with the videos. Could there still be a problem?

Jane Lancaster paid him no mind and started changing, preparing to go out.

Julian Lancaster was generating all this hype so she could get into Stratton University smoothly.

However, today she was accompanying Caleb Lowell to a banquet hosted by his uncle.

Caleb Lowell had been abandoned by his parents as a child. He didn’t have many relatives, but each one had been a great benefactor in his life.

Caleb Lowell’s uncle was one such person. He had spent his early years abroad, and upon returning to the country, he suppressed the company’s old guard and helped Caleb smoothly take control of the board of directors.

Jane Lancaster didn’t put much effort into dressing up. The Holt family might have originally been on her side, but the uncle was a different story.

The man was an expert at seeing through fakes and had seen through her phony, "white lotus" act from the very beginning.

Moreover, this uncle had a very close relationship with Luna Morgan, so there was no way he could be easily won over by her.
