Chapter 74: Chapter 74: The Young Miss Went to Solara

At three in the morning, a riverside penthouse was brightly lit.

Caleb Lowell sat on the sofa, his buzz from the alcohol completely gone as he listened to his assistant’s report.

"Are you saying she was forced to move out of her cousin’s place?"

"The people who were causing trouble at Miss Morgan’s cousin’s shop said it was because she tried to seduce someone’s fiancé, so they wanted to teach her a lesson. Also..." The assistant hesitated.

Caleb Lowell’s heart tightened. He already had a guess as to what it was and said coldly, "Continue."

The assistant handed a piece of surveillance footage to Caleb Lowell.

The mall’s surveillance footage showed that at a little past eight tonight, Jane Lancaster and Luna Morgan had locked eyes from a distance in front of The Black Swan Cakery.

Mama Knight was standing to the side and said something.

Mama Knight’s expression was unclear in the video, but an image of her smug face surfaced in his mind.

It was the same expression Mama Knight always wore after tattling on Luna Morgan, as she watched him scold Luna.

Recalling how Mama Knight had once driven Luna Morgan out of the Lancaster residence, it was hard for him to believe she had nothing to do with this.

And what about Jane Lancaster? Was she really completely unaware of this? Or did she go out of her way to buy a cake just to witness Luna Morgan’s downfall firsthand?

At this thought, Caleb Lowell pressed his fingers firmly to the bridge of his nose, forcing himself to stop thinking about it.

"Miss Morgan, why are you up? Oh my, you need to lie back down!" the assistant said hurriedly when he saw Luna Morgan.

Caleb Lowell snapped back to reality and rose from the sofa to look at Luna Morgan.

Luna Morgan kept her head down, not daring to look at him, afraid the vulnerability in her eyes would show. "I’m much better now. Thank you, Mr. Lowell. I’ll leave right away."

Caleb Lowell frowned. "You just took fever medicine, you should be resting. Go back and lie down!"

Luna Morgan refused. "I’ve been a bother for long enough. I really should go..."

She didn’t want to cause any more unnecessary misunderstandings.

Caleb Lowell’s expression stiffened. After a moment, he said in an icy tone, "Do you really think I want to get involved with you? You’ve most likely had a pneumonia relapse. When that happens, you’re not going to blame it on Jay again, are you?"

Luna Morgan’s heart went cold. ’So that’s how it is. It’s all for Miss Lancaster’s sake.’

"No one usually lives here, so you can stay here for now. If you have nothing else to do, tidy the place up a bit. You can handle that, can’t you?"

Luna Morgan gave a small nod.

The footsteps receded, followed by the sound of the main door closing. She looked up. She was the only one left in the vast, empty room.

——

Outside the door, the assistant sighed. "Miss Morgan is really stubborn."

Caleb Lowell shot him a look. "Don’t tell anyone about this."

The assistant shuddered and immediately wiped the expression from his face. "Yes, sir!"

"President Lowell, are we going home now?" They had been running around for most of the night, and dawn was just a little over two hours away.

Caleb Lowell had originally planned to sleep at the penthouse tonight, but now he had given it to Luna Morgan.

Caleb Lowell rubbed the bridge of his nose. "No, let’s go straight to the office."

There was a small private room in his office for him to rest, so he planned to get some sleep there.

——

When Jane Lancaster woke up in the morning, she found she had "happily" acquired 5 more disgust points.

She didn’t need to guess who contributed them. She checked Caleb Lowell’s favorability rating—good, it had already started to drop. It was currently at 87%.

While closing the mission window, she accidentally clicked on Julian Lancaster’s mission panel. Suddenly, her gaze froze.

Julian Lancaster’s favorability had dropped by a point at some unknown time. It was no longer a steady-as-a-rock 92%.

’91%? I wonder how long that will hold.’

When she went downstairs, she was surprised to see Calvin Cole and two strangers.

Calvin Cole shot to his feet, his attitude respectful. "Young Miss, these two are reporters from the provincial television station."

Julian Lancaster had always been meticulous about protecting his family’s privacy. After the incident all those years ago, he never allowed the media to publish images of his sister lying in a pool of blood, nor did he ever try to exploit her heroic deeds.

But now that his sister was awake, it was a different story.

As long as Jane Lancaster was alive, the one who would benefit most from amplifying the public opinion on this matter would be Jane herself.

This matter had been entrusted to Calvin Cole before, but he had postponed it because Jane Lancaster’s poor health meant she shouldn’t be disturbed.

Now that Julian Lancaster felt the time was right, he had immediately invited the reporters over.

Julian Lancaster also walked over. "Jay, don’t be nervous. Big Brother will be here with you."

Calvin Cole was also eager to make a good impression. "Young Miss, the Eldest Young Master has already screened all the questions. The reporters are very professional, and we’re well-acquainted with them. Don’t worry, there won’t be any problems."

Jane Lancaster glanced at him.

’The transfer order came down last week. He’s already started handing over many of his responsibilities. Lucy Finch is so busy with overtime that she can’t even catch a break, but look at him—busy trying to suck up to me.’

’He really thinks this is some important duty, doesn’t he? He’s obviously just using this to distract you.’

The reporters were indeed professional—perhaps a little too professional.

For some questions, it was clear they already had their answers and didn’t really care what Jane Lancaster had to say.

The interview concluded, and the reporters were seen off.

Jane Lancaster looked at Calvin Cole with a beaming smile. "Special Assistant Cole, you’ve worked really hard today."

Calvin Cole looked utterly flattered. "Not at all, Young Miss."

After Calvin Cole left, Jane Lancaster said, "Big Brother, Special Assistant Cole is a really nice person. Is there really no room for reconsideration on that matter?"

Julian Lancaster’s expression was cold. "No. He failed in his duty to take care of you, and he even tried to turn the tables and blame you. I will absolutely not tolerate it."

Jane Lancaster looked slightly regretful.

’So domineering. But is this how you’re supposed to dote on your life-and-soul sister? You won’t even listen when she pleads for someone?’

Julian Lancaster paused, but ultimately, he reached out and ruffled the top of her head.

"Alright, Big Brother is going to work now. You pack up at home. I’ll be back tonight to pick you up, and we’ll fly straight to Solara."

Jane Lancaster froze for a second, only then remembering the appointment with the traditional Chinese medicine doctor in Solara. "Okay!"

However, with nothing much to do in the afternoon, she sent the group photo to Caleb Lowell.

Jane Lancaster: [Zion, reporters came to interview me today. They asked if I would be willing to take the attacker down with me if I had to do it all over again, and I said no. Can you guess why not?]

A long time passed with no reply from Caleb Lowell.

She then sent the photo to Luna Morgan.

Luna Morgan replied immediately, her message showing no trace of the wary defensiveness from the many seconds they had locked eyes the night before.

Luna Morgan: [Miss Lancaster, were you just interviewed by the provincial station’s reporters? That’s amazing! You are the undisputed hero in my heart, congratulations! Mr. Lowell will definitely be happy too!]

Jane Lancaster sighed. ’See, this is the difference between the female lead and the scumbag male lead. She’s always ready to provide that emotional validation, no matter what.’

At a little after 9 p.m., she and Julian Lancaster were seated in first class, preparing to fly to Solara.

Caleb Lowell didn’t notice the message until ten o’clock that night.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he had the driver head to the Lancaster residence, planning to give her a surprise.

All the things he’d been agonizing over for so long suddenly seemed unimportant when he saw her brilliant smile.

He realized he still missed her. He missed her a lot.

As the car pulled up to the guard post, the security guard looked surprised. "Young Master Lowell, what are you doing here? The Eldest Young Master, Young Miss, and Second Young Master have all gone to Solara. There’s no one home today."

Caleb Lowell froze.
