Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Caleb Lowell Is Secretly Keeping a Mistress?

Willow Summers was woken by the noise and quickly lifted her head from Jane Lancaster’s shoulder. Pauline Shaw finally found the sight less of an eyesore.

Willow Summers said, "Jane Lancaster gave me such a clear warning that day. I’m not an idiot; I decided right then and there to stay far away from Jim Jenson."

For Jane Lancaster’s sake, she was willing to tolerate Pauline Shaw’s rudeness for a little while.

"You’re lying! You didn’t believe her at all! You even left with Jim Jenson in his car that night!" Pauline Shaw said, getting agitated.

Willow Summers replied, "It’s not that I didn’t believe her. I went back and checked on the bracelet right away and found it had been secretly slipped into my bag. I returned it on the spot. Jim Jenson said that since I’d refused his gift, I couldn’t possibly refuse a ride home. All of his friends at the table were watching. What else could I do?"

"Lies! You were all over Jim Jenson that day. I saw him with my own eyes, his arm around your waist as you got into the car."

Seeing Willow Summers fall silent, Pauline Shaw raised an eyebrow. "What, are you going to say you weren’t willing?"

Jane Lancaster cut in, "Can I say something? I saw it too, but I think her body language made it pretty clear she wasn’t willing."

"If she were willing, she wouldn’t have spent the whole time hugging her own shoulders, not even touching Jim Jenson’s jacket."

Willow Summers felt a sting in her nose. She couldn’t believe Jane had noticed such a small detail from so far away.

In reality, she had tried to refuse, but Jim Jenson wouldn’t take no for an answer, so she had no choice but to endure it.

"After that, Jim Jenson kept asking me out, and I refused every time. Then he started deliberately cornering me. One time, he even did it right in front of Mandy. I was afraid Mandy would find out, so I had to go out with him one more time. After that, he said I was ungrateful for eating two meals with him and not treating him in return, which is why I wanted to pay his bill today."

"Absurd!" Uncle Lynn couldn’t listen anymore. "Making a girl pay you back after two meals? He has no class whatsoever. What is the world coming to!"

Jasper Sterling added, "And the first meal was a get-together with his friends where he just brought her along to show off. How does that even count as treating her?"

Pauline Shaw felt a headache coming on. ’I must have been seeing red,’ she thought. ’How did I end up looking like the bad guy here?’

Willow Summers turned to look at Pauline Shaw. "You said I didn’t believe her? She’s Jane Lancaster! Would I be crazy not to believe what she says?"

Pauline Shaw asked, "What do you mean by that?"

Jane Lancaster was also baffled.

’Why should anyone automatically believe me? Aren’t we mortal enemies?’

’Even though we teamed up later, it was just a relationship of mutual convenience.’

"Why do you trust her so much?" Jasper Sterling asked, his interest piqued.

Willow Summers replied, "Because she’s a hero who saved people! During the kidnapping incident back then, she was willing to sacrifice herself to take the culprits down with her. Why would she lie to me about something like that?"

Jasper Sterling glanced at Jane Lancaster in the rearview mirror, saw she looked even more baffled, and couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

"You’re absolutely right. She’s a hero who risked her life to save three people."

Uncle Lynn silently turned around and gave Jane Lancaster a thumbs-up. "Miss Lancaster, that’s amazing!"

Jane Lancaster hadn’t expected that to be the reason.

’Everyone says Willow Summers is a scheming white lotus, but it turns out she’s actually quite naive.’

’She’ll soon find out that the kidnapping incident is a stain on my life, not a badge of honor.’

’I just hope that when she feels like she’s been deceived, she doesn’t turn on me and viciously drag my name through the mud.’

’In any case, the two of us villainesses have finally managed to team up.’

Pauline Shaw crossed her arms and thought, ’So you do know. If it weren’t for you, none of us would have had to suffer through that pointless disaster.’

Jasper Sterling lowered his gaze and was just about to speak when Jane Lancaster changed the subject.

"Jasper Sterling, what a coincidence seeing you at that restaurant today."

Jasper Sterling looked at her through the rearview mirror, his smile dazzlingly gentle. "Yes, what a coincidence. To just happen to run into you, Senior. It seems we’re truly fated."

Uncle Lynn: "..."

He’s completely redefining "coincidence" and "fate"!

Pauline Shaw watched the two of them suspiciously, a thoughtful expression on her face.

The car pulled over to the side of the road. Pauline Shaw got out, then suddenly turned back, holding the car door. "Jay, can you come here for a second? I have something to tell you."

Jane Lancaster got out and walked over. Pauline Shaw grabbed her hand and pulled her a little to the side.

"Jay, have you been getting a little too close with Jasper Sterling lately?" she asked, glancing warily at the car parked nearby and lowering her voice to a serious whisper.

Jane Lancaster: "..."

’This is what she wanted to talk about? I got my hopes up for nothing.’

Pauline Shaw was anxious. "You know he’s bad news! Jasper Sterling is only getting close to you to get revenge on my cousin! You and my cousin are about to get engaged, don’t fall for his trap!"

Jane Lancaster said, "Pauline, you’re overthinking it. We were classmates, after all."

’Instead of wasting your energy trying to persuade me, you should go talk to that cousin of yours who’s about to hide a mistress in a golden love nest.’

Pauline Shaw froze for a moment. ’My cousin, keeping a mistress? What kind of joke is that?’

Seeing her standing there in a daze, Jane Lancaster walked away without another word.

She hadn’t taken more than two steps before she saw Jasper Sterling waiting by the car.

"Senior, get in," he said, opening the car door with an incredibly gentle smile.

’So Caleb Lowell is secretly keeping a mistress? Now that’s interesting. I definitely have to get in on this.’

’And it just so happens I know his flight is tomorrow afternoon.’

Early that morning, Luna Morgan got up to clean the house and make breakfast.

Of course, when you were staying in someone else’s home, you had to be diligent. Although her cousin’s place couldn’t compare to the Lancaster Family’s estate, she was already grateful to have a roof over her head while she looked for her parents.

She worked quickly and efficiently, finishing the cleaning in no time before starting on breakfast.

The morning light filtered through the screen window, casting a glow on her face that made her skin look exceptionally fair.

Hearing a noise behind her, she turned around, a little surprised. "Cuz, why are you up so early?"

Her cousin’s family ran a small restaurant that also sold barbecue at night. Business was decent, enough to support the family.

It was just exhausting work. They were busy until the early hours of the morning before closing, so they usually slept in until nine or ten.

’It’s only a little past seven now. Why isn’t he sleeping in?’

"Luna, I’m sorry, but I can’t let you stay here anymore. Please move out today."

Luna Morgan froze. "But why?"

Her cousin’s face was etched with exhaustion. Before he could speak, his wife rushed out. "I’ll be straight with you. People have been coming to our restaurant to cause trouble every day lately—holding up banners, banging gongs and drums. Last night, they almost started a physical fight! They said it’s because you seduced someone’s fiancé, and his fiancée wants to teach you a lesson, understand? Our restaurant is being harassed so much we can barely stay open!"

Luna Morgan felt the blood drain from her face, her own heartbeat pounding in her ears. "How could this be?!"

"How could it not? They said anyone who takes you in is making an enemy of them. We don’t have a choice. I’m begging you, please just leave our family in peace..."

Luna Morgan’s eyes reddened. She untied her apron and said softly, "I’m sorry. I’ll leave right away."
