Chapter 71: Chapter 71: You Dare to Record?
Jim Jenson was wary of him. Jasper’s group was bigger, and Jim knew he wouldn’t come out on top.
"You little bitch, just you wait. Don’t think they can protect you. Sooner or later, I’ll fucking kill you!" After spitting out the threat, Jim Jenson suddenly thought of something and licked his lips.
"You’ve been playing innocent for me, haven’t you? Playing hard to get so you can sell yourself for a higher price? Fine. I’ll find a few guys to ’take good care’ of you another day."
The color drained from Willow Summers’ face, leaving it deathly pale.
Jim Jenson watched her trembling form with a smug look, just about to turn and leave.
Suddenly, a voice sounded from behind him. "You little bitch, just you wait..."
Jane Lancaster let the recording finish before offering a pointed review. "Wow, sounds like we have a future inmate here. I wonder what Old Master Jenson would think if he heard this."
Jim Jenson spun around in disbelief. "You bitch, you dared to record me?"
He charged forward recklessly to snatch the phone, but Jasper Sterling grabbed his wrist. His normally charming eyes held an icy edge. "You dare curse at her?"
Jim Jenson was still spewing a stream of curses, struggling to pull his hand back, but the other man’s grip was too strong. He met Jasper Sterling’s gaze and was so intimidated by the viciousness in his eyes that he fell silent.
Jasper Sterling said, "Remember this. It’s me, Jasper Sterling, who’s taking you down today. If you want revenge, come find me."
He paused, then added, "If you dare cause trouble for any of the three young women here today, I will make your life a living hell."
Uncle Lynn couldn’t help but give a small, soft clap. ’My young master is so cool!’
Jim Jenson felt like he was going to die from anger. ’That old geezer must have done it on purpose!’
But unfortunately, he was completely helpless against Jasper Sterling. He couldn’t compete with his company, and he couldn’t win in a fight.
All he could do was leave dejectedly with his assistant.
"It’s okay now. It’s over." Jane Lancaster turned to comfort Willow Summers. The woman was leaning against her back, trembling with fear.
"Jane, what am I going to do? He’s never going to let me go!" Willow Summers looked completely helpless.
Pauline Shaw was getting impatient. "No one forced you to say what you said. Didn’t you think about the consequences before you opened your mouth?"
She glared at Willow Summers. ’This woman has some nerve, she’s practically falling into Jane Lancaster’s arms.’
"Lay off her," Jane Lancaster said with a frown.
’I’m only doing this for your own good, to keep her from latching onto you!’
Pauline Shaw was so angry she started criticizing Jane Lancaster too. "And you! Why are you so impulsive? Young Master Sterling already stood up for you, did you really need to go and beat him up too? And you even used the sole of your shoe! What man could endure that kind of humiliation? You’re just escalating the conflict!"
Jasper Sterling’s voice was placid. "Is that so? I think a guy like him deserves a beating. If he’s going to be a scumbag, you have to beat him so badly he’ll be too scared to try it again."
Uncle Lynn naturally backed up his young master. "You have to let him know you’re not to be trifled with. Only then will he learn to be wary."
Even Willow Summers added in a quiet voice, "I think so too. If he knows he can’t get away with it, he won’t dare to try again."
Pauline Shaw shot Willow Summers a glare. ’What does this have to do with her?!’
’Pauline Shaw must be about to explode. She probably didn’t expect everyone to take my side.’
’Why do you insist on making things awkward for yourself? If you disapprove of how I handle things, you should have just walked away from the beginning.’
’You clearly didn’t want to get your hands dirty, yet you insisted on stepping up. How dumb is that?’
Pauline Shaw was choked with anger. ’I didn’t leave because I was worried about her!’
’I didn’t even mean to get involved! I only reacted because I heard her thoughts and thought she’d noticed me!’
’If I’d known this would happen, I would have just turned around and left right away!’
The group walked back, only to find that all their colleagues in the private room had left.
As they passed through the restaurant’s lobby, they saw Manager Raymond talking to someone at the front desk.
He turned, saw Pauline Shaw, and his expression didn’t change a bit. "Pauline, do you know why Young Master Jenson left so suddenly? I just tried to catch up to him, but he completely ignored me."
Pauline Shaw’s heart sank. Jim Jenson had taken a beating; the deal was definitely off.
For a moment, she didn’t know how to explain it to Manager Raymond and was overcome with guilt.
Just then, Jane Lancaster’s voice echoed in her mind again.
[’I bet Manager Raymond snuck over to the front desk to get an invoice. He’ll get the company to reimburse it and pocket a nice little bonus for himself.’]
Pauline Shaw took a deep breath. She refused to believe Manager Raymond was that kind of person. Jane must be letting her hear these things on purpose.
’I already fell for it once. I’m not falling for it again!’
"Sir, that... it’s all ready for you..." the receptionist said, giving Manager Raymond a pointed look.
"What’s all ready?" Jasper Sterling asked with a smile.
’This young man is way too handsome!’ the receptionist thought. ’Is he a celebrity? It’s mainly his aura—that noble, detached quality. You could never fake that!’
Her heart thumped in her chest, and she felt a little flustered.
Besides, this middle-aged man wasn’t the one who paid the bill, yet he was sneaking over to get an invoice and asking her to help cover it up. That was just wrong.
"It’s the invoice," she said quickly and quietly.
"Manager Raymond, were you waiting here for Pauline specifically?" A louder voice drowned out the receptionist.
[’I knew Jasper Sterling would just stir up more trouble.’]
[’Pauline Shaw absolutely cannot find out that Manager Raymond isn’t a good person!’]
Pauline Shaw’s face darkened. Though the receptionist’s voice had been quiet, she had been listening intently and had clearly heard the word "invoice."
Manager Raymond collected himself. His composure was truly impressive; even on the verge of being exposed, his expression never wavered.
"Yes, I was worried about you two girls being unsafe." He sized up Jasper Sterling. "Is this a friend of yours? Pauline, you tell me. I’ll only trust what you say."
Only after Pauline Shaw nodded did he offer a sheepish apology. "So sorry, I just had to be sure. After all, Pauline had a lot to drink today. It would be trouble if she ran into a bad person."
[’Manager Raymond is working his PUA magic again.’]
Jane Lancaster smiled knowingly. "Manager Raymond, you’re such a great guy!"
Manager Raymond waved his hand humbly. "Not at all, not at all. I think of Pauline as a daughter, so naturally, I have to look out for her."
Pauline Shaw’s head was starting to ache. The manager, who had always seemed so kind and fatherly, suddenly felt like a stranger.
Her phone suddenly rang. It was Mr. Shaw, calling because he was worried and wanted to know if he should come pick her up.
"Jay, I’ll take you home," she said, turning to Jane Lancaster.
"Allow me to take my senior home," Jasper Sterling said.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Jane Lancaster said, "Willow, you can ride with me in Jasper Sterling’s car."
Willow Summers paused for a second, then nodded.
Pauline Shaw wasn’t sure why, but she blurted out, "Then I’ll go with you guys too!"
In the end, Jasper Sterling drove, with Uncle Lynn in the passenger seat and the three young women in the back.
Pauline Shaw and Willow Summers couldn’t stand the sight of each other, so Jane Lancaster had no choice but to sit in the middle.
Willow Summers had only been in the car for a few moments before she started to get drowsy. Her head kept nodding against the window until Jane Lancaster gently guided it to rest on her shoulder.
Pauline Shaw stared for a moment, and the longer she looked, the more irritating she found the sight.
"Willow Summers, weren’t you and Jim Jenson getting along like a house on fire before? You were bold enough to go out to dinner alone with him after just meeting him, so why the sudden decision to give up on him?"
Emboldened by the alcohol, she asked with undisguised malice.
