Chapter 70: Chapter 70: I Have an Eyewitness

By the time Jim Jenson’s assistant sensed something was wrong and rushed over, Jane Lancaster had already dealt with Jim Jenson and was looking down, putting on her shoes.

This body was still too weak. Her arm was a bit sore, and she didn’t really want to move. Leaning against the wall, she tried to shove her foot into her shoe, but it wouldn’t go in after several tries.

"Let me." Jasper Sterling crouched down and helped her put on her shoe.

Then he even used a handkerchief to meticulously wipe the shoe all over.

Uncle Lynn: "..."

’That’s my handkerchief, Young Master!’

The assistant looked at Jim Jenson’s swollen face and glared menacingly at Jane Lancaster. "Did you do this?"

He immediately zeroed in on Jane. "Don’t even try to deny it. This isn’t over. You’re dead for hitting our young master!"

Jasper Sterling’s gaze swept over to him. "Who did you say is dead?"

The assistant’s bluster immediately deflated. He found it hard to withstand Jasper Sterling’s stare.

"The police! I’m calling the police!" Jim Jenson yelled, his speech slurred.

Jane Lancaster said, "Fine by me. Let’s call the police—"

"You want to call the police? Should I make the call for you?" Jasper Sterling’s voice cut over hers.

He smiled with unhurried composure. "I was the one who tripped you. I’m truly sorry you fell like that, and I’m willing to accept any punishment. But who told you to hit someone first, hmm?"

Jane Lancaster looked up at him.

’If this is just about stealing Caleb Lowell’s girl, he doesn’t need to go this far, does he?’

Jasper Sterling felt a little helpless. ’How can she still doubt my sincerity?’

Jim Jenson’s eyes widened. "You’re lying! It was obviously her who beat me up like this!"

’Holy shit, has he lost his mind? Twisting the truth and taking all the blame himself!’

No matter how much Jim Jenson resented Jasper Sterling, he knew he couldn’t actually report him to the police.

Doing so would offend the entire Sterling Group and ruin any chance of cooperation between the Jenson and Sterling families. His father would kill him!

But Jane Lancaster was different. She was the one who’d actually done it, and as a daughter who didn’t work at the family company, she was likely spoiled but powerless.

If he insisted on pursuing the matter, the Lancaster Family would have to give him an explanation.

Jasper Sterling’s handsome eyes held a careless smile. "Do you have any proof? She’s so frail, she couldn’t even truss a chicken. You claim she beat you into this state? Do you really think anyone would believe you?"

Jim Jenson had chosen to make his move here precisely because there were no security cameras.

Jim Jenson’s face turned ashen. There were four people present, but the other three were clearly on the same side. He really had no proof.

Jane Lancaster sighed. Since she was the one who’d done it, she hadn’t planned on shifting the blame to anyone else.

’Still... Jasper Sterling, you’re speaking with a bit too much certainty. There’s actually a witness.’

She had noticed it when she was taking off her shoe—someone was hiding around the corner.

Pauline Shaw, hearing this thought, walked right out and said coolly, "I didn’t see anything."

’So don’t worry about me backstabbing you. We were friends, after all. I wouldn’t go so far as to help Jim Jenson deal with you.’

She had followed Jim Jenson out and saw Jane get pushed. She hesitated for a moment, wondering whether to help, but then Jasper Sterling arrived.

She had been hiding because she didn’t want to get involved in this mess. Since Jane had discovered her, there was no point in hiding anymore.

’Pauline Shaw is here too? Oh well. The person hiding up ahead must be Willow Summers.’

Pauline Shaw froze. ’Willow Summers is here too??’

Jasper Sterling started walking toward the corridor ahead. Seeing no way to avoid it, Willow Summers had no choice but to bite the bullet and walk out.

"Oh, honey, perfect! So you were here too!" Jim Jenson was overjoyed.

He wanted to laugh out loud, but it pulled at the wounds on his face, making him hiss in pain. He could only suppress his delight and shoot Jane Lancaster a smug look.

"See that? I have an eyewitness!"

Pauline Shaw’s heart skipped a beat. ’It’s over. Willow Summers is definitely going to side with Jim Jenson!’

Willow Summers was always on the same page as Beverly Lynch. After so many years of clashing head-on, who knows how much bad blood there was between them. Willow could use this opportunity to get her revenge!

Besides, this was a golden opportunity to get on Jim Jenson’s good side, and she definitely wouldn’t miss it.

She was so nervous she was breaking out in a cold sweat, but when she turned her head, she found Jane Lancaster looking... completely unbothered?

"Willow, baby, hurry up and tell them. Was it her? Did she beat me like this with the sole of her shoe?" Jim Jenson said, shooting a vicious glare at Jane. "You’re finished. I’m going to make sure you end up in jail!"

With new and old grudges piling up, his hatred for Jane Lancaster had become venomous.

Jasper Sterling said with a smile, "Ma’am, if you didn’t see anything, you can just say you didn’t see anything."

Pauline Shaw’s tone held a warning. "Willow Summers, this is President Sterling of the Sterling Group."

’You’d better think carefully about the consequences of offending him.’

Willow Summers hesitated for a moment, then Jane Lancaster suddenly said, "It’s alright. Just say what you want to say."

’Willow Summers must feel pretty helpless, too. Suddenly dragged into this, with both sides pressuring her, and she can’t afford to offend either one.’

Pauline Shaw was the one who was speechless. ’You’ve already said that, so why would Willow Summers possibly side with you now?’

"Willow, don’t listen to them! Hurry up and speak! I’ve got your back!" Jim Jenson urged anxiously.

Willow Summers looked up. "I didn’t see Jane Lancaster hit you. But I did see you shove her against the wall and get ready to hit her."

"What did you say?" Jim Jenson’s voice rose, and he immediately felt his ears ringing from the strain.

For a moment, he wondered if he had misheard.

"Willow Summers, are you insane?" Jim Jenson’s assistant demanded harshly. He’d heard her loud and clear. "How dare you betray our young master?"

’Sigh. This silly girl.’ Jane Lancaster sighed inwardly.

She quickly moved forward and pulled Willow Summers behind her.

Willow Summers was petite, and Jane shielded her completely.

Jasper Sterling moved at almost the same time, placing himself in front of Jane Lancaster.

Pauline Shaw stood frozen in place, her mind reeling. The completely unexpected had happened: Willow Summers had actually spoken up for Jane Lancaster.

She hadn’t made an excuse and said she saw nothing, nor had she honestly recounted the entire truth. Instead, she had selectively stated partial facts to accuse Jim Jenson of attacking Jane Lancaster.

One had to understand that in this situation, Jim Jenson wouldn’t have let her off even if she’d claimed to see nothing, let alone after such blatant favoritism.

Between Jim Jenson, the truth, and Jane Lancaster, she had chosen Jane Lancaster.

She had unhesitatingly waded into the messy situation that even Pauline herself had wanted to avoid.

But why? Weren’t she and Jane Lancaster mortal enemies?

Wasn’t she afraid of offending Jim Jenson? Not only would her dream of marrying into a wealthy family be shattered, but she could also be destroyed.

By now, Jim Jenson had fully processed what happened. His gaze was terrifyingly sinister. "Willow Summers, I’ll give you one more chance. Step forward and say that again."

’If she dares to step forward, I’ll slap her twice immediately and show her the consequences of betraying me!’

"She spoke clearly enough. Or does a faulty brain affect your hearing too?" Jasper Sterling chuckled.

"Oh, and let me correct something. I tripped you to stop you from continuing your assault. Therefore, it was self-defense."
