Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Who Told You to Covet Someone Else’s Fiancé?

An hour later, in the small private room, Alvin Lancaster lowered his head and took a sip of water to hide his unease.

Although his sister hadn’t agreed, he had insisted on coming along, planning to ask Luna Morgan about the stomach medicine later.

Jane Lancaster clearly didn’t welcome him, and her gaze remained icy.

To break the silence, Alvin Lancaster cleared his throat. "Jay, I’ve been watching a lot of hospital documentaries recently..."

But at the mention of it, he suddenly fell silent.

He had originally been watching documentaries about comatose patients. He was deeply shaken after watching them. He never realized how grueling rehabilitation was for them—falling and getting back up, again and again. Many couldn’t endure the painful process and were confined to wheelchairs for life. Even more were like lumps of dead meat, paralyzed in bed, just waiting to die day after day.

Their gray, despairing eyes sent a chill straight to his bones.

He once thought his sister had been lucky, but how could there be so much luck in the world?

Her greatest fortune was that her own willpower was strong enough.

"And?" Jane Lancaster finally spared him a glance.

"I just think you’re amazing for being able to stand up on your own." Alvin Lancaster’s eyes grew moist, and he quickly lowered his head.

Hearing the system’s announcement, Jane Lancaster nearly snapped the chopsticks in her hand.

She glanced at Alvin Lancaster’s legs and thought sinisterly, ’It really would be better to just break his legs. Then he wouldn’t be overflowing with pity again.’

Alvin Lancaster shivered, forcibly suppressing the surge of emotion in his heart.

It was just like a dream; he was awake but still didn’t dare to move.

Downstairs, after Julian Lanscaster dropped off his younger brother and sister, he had the driver turn the car around.

This was an old district with narrow streets, so the car wasn’t moving fast. Soon, his gaze fell upon a young woman in the crowd.

Luna Morgan noticed the car as well. Although she didn’t recognize the brand, she remembered it was a car from the Lancaster Family.

Just then, traffic came to a standstill, and the car stopped. She walked up and knocked on the window.

"Miss Lancaster, good after—"

Her voice died away when she saw the face revealed as the window rolled down.

"I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize it was you..." Luna Morgan explained awkwardly, then paused before asking, "Has your stomach been okay recently?"

"It’s fine," Julian Lanscaster said before rolling up the window. The car began to move slowly again.

"Young Master, it looks like Miss Morgan is in trouble..." the driver exclaimed after a glance in the rearview mirror.

From a nearby alley, several cyclists suddenly appeared and knocked Luna Morgan straight to the ground.

"Watch where you’re going, you blind bat!" one of them cursed before speeding off.

Luna Morgan was completely helpless.

She had clearly moved aside, but the other person’s bike had still come straight at her.

This wasn’t the first time. No matter how slow she was, she understood that someone was deliberately targeting her.

Fighting back tears, she got up and bent down to pick up her scattered belongings when she suddenly heard a familiar-sounding, miserable cry.

Julian Lanscaster had timed it perfectly. Just as the cyclist reached him, he abruptly grabbed the handlebars and yanked, sending the rider tumbling to the ground with a THUD.

The man scrambled up, cursing, and was about to make a move when the driver ran over.

"Young Master!" Julian Lanscaster’s driver wasn’t just a driver but also a bodyguard. He was big and burly and looked like he could handle himself in a fight.

The man didn’t dare say another word. He picked up his bicycle and quickly pedaled away.

"Young Master, thank you!" Luna Morgan abandoned her things and hurried after him.

Tears welled in her eyes, moved that Julian Lanscaster had stepped in to help.

Julian Lanscaster paused slightly. "Why are you crying?"

"I’m not. I just think you’re a really gentle person, Young Master," Luna Morgan said, then froze for a moment. ’The Young Master had always been a very gentle person... but after the kidnapping, everything changed. The man who was once like a spring breeze had suddenly become cold and cruel.’

A car nearby honked its horn, reminding them to move and not block the road.

Julian Lanscaster said nothing more and turned to get back in the car.

"Young Master, don’t forget to take the medicine I gave you!" Luna Morgan shouted at the car.

Those were pills she had specially made for him. She had learned how to make them from someone at a traditional Chinese medicine clinic after working there for free for a month while studying Tui Na massage and acupuncture.

The main ingredient in the pills was moleplant seed. Her family had used it to treat stomach problems when she was a child, and it had worked very well, so she felt confident giving it to Julian Lanscaster.

’I hope the Young Master’s stomach problems get better soon.’

Jane Lancaster had already finished a slice of cake by the time Luna Morgan arrived.

"What’s got you so happy?" she asked, already knowing the answer. She had seen what happened on the street below when she went to the restroom just a moment ago.

"It’s nothing," Luna Morgan said, instinctively not wanting to mention Julian Lanscaster.

"Oh, right, Miss Lancaster, these are my works. You can take a look. I hope they can help you," Luna Morgan said, taking everything out of her canvas bag.

Though she came from a poor background, her artistic attainments were quite high.

She had worked hard to get into the law program, but one day she stumbled into an old courtyard on campus and was grabbed by a strange old man who made her help him paint for half the day.

Later, she learned that she had a natural gift for color and that her eyes could distinguish many shades that ordinary people couldn’t see.

He paid her for her time and asked her to come back again. And just like that, Luna Morgan found herself with a job.

Three years passed, and her painting skills improved by leaps and bounds. Only then did the old man suddenly tell her that he was the renowned art master Professor Quentin Woods, and he wanted to take her on as his last disciple.

Luna Morgan refused. She was already struggling with her law studies; how could she have the energy for a second major? She’d be doomed if she couldn’t graduate.

However, she could help Jane Lancaster. After all, Jane had to go back to school. Relying on the college entrance exams at this point wasn’t realistic, but she could consider the artistic track.

After all, Jane Lancaster had studied traditional painting for many years and had won awards before.

Jane Lancaster said, "Thank you, Luna."

Suddenly, her fingers pinched a sheet of paper. On it was a hideous, snarling face, along with two large, blood-red words: GO DIE.

Luna Morgan’s face paled when she saw it. She snatched it away, tore it to pieces, and threw it in the trash.

"Are you in some kind of trouble?" Jane Lancaster’s expression grew serious.

Luna Morgan shook her head. "It’s nothing."

"You don’t need to cover for bad people. If something’s wrong, you have to speak up so people can help you."

Luna Morgan hesitated before giving a helpless smile. "It’s just a prank, really. It’s not a big deal. I’m an adult; I can handle it myself."

Alvin Lancaster, who had been looking down at his phone and texting, hadn’t seen the paper and didn’t think anything of it.

’Some prank. This has to be the Holt Family messing with her, right?’

’Even though the plot with the Holt Family’s banquet changed and I didn’t side with them, the trouble that was meant to happen still found its way to her.’

Hearing this, Alvin Lancaster grew anxious. He cleared his throat and said, "Luna, if something is wrong, you have to tell us!"

"It’s really nothing!" Luna Morgan insisted, still shaking her head.

’I already owe Jane Lancaster for saving my life; I don’t want to be even more indebted.’

Besides, this wasn’t the first time that guy had caused trouble for her. Today, when he ran into her, he had whispered something.

"—Bitch. Who told you you could covet another woman’s fiancé?"

For some reason, her heart skipped a beat, and the first face that appeared in her mind was Caleb Lowell’s.
