Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Let’s See How Pauline Shaw Gets PUA’d

Jane didn’t press Luna any further.

’Anyway, the protagonist always manages to turn disaster into fortune. It’s not the place of a villain like me to worry about her.’

Alvin thought so, too. Since Luna didn’t want them to interfere, it was best not to meddle.

He didn’t dare ask about the stomach medicine in front of his sister, afraid of revealing that he could hear her thoughts.

Instead, it was Jane who brought it up. "Luna, I heard you saved an old man a while back."

Luna looked blank for a moment before nodding awkwardly. "I did."

The old man seemed a little eccentric, though, and said a lot of strange things. She suspected he was either mentally unstable or a con artist.

Jane’s interest was piqued. "Where did you run into him?"

"I ran into him near the North Peak of Westerlyn." Luna grew more anxious, tugging at the hem of her shirt.

"Miss Lancaster, I’m sorry, I don’t really remember the details. My apologies."

’Wait, what’s she so nervous for? Wasn’t this her fated encounter? What’s there to be tense about?’ Jane was completely baffled.

Alvin found it strange, too. Luna had always had an excellent memory; there was no way she’d forgotten.

"Sounds like you had quite an interesting encounter. Mount Valerim has the Gryphon Stone. The person you met wasn’t some enlightened grandmaster, was he?" Alvin joked with a smile.

Luna instinctively felt that wasn’t it. "He didn’t seem like a monk from a temple, but he was definitely a master of some sort."

Alvin was stunned. It was real? "That’s a serendipitous encounter! Did he give you anything?"

Luna thought for a moment. "Oh, right. He gave me a bottle of medicine. Miss Lancaster, would you like it? I’ve forgotten where I put it, so I’d have to look for it when I get home."

Alvin was speechless.

He was actually the one who wanted it.

Jane said, "Why would you give me something that was a gift for you? Besides, you can’t just take medicine from a stranger."

Luna looked serious. "The old man said it treats poor digestion. Miss Lancaster, your stomach isn’t very good. You need to take care of it."

Jane politely declined. "Why don’t you find it first, and we can talk about it then."

’Could I really snatch such an important plot device? I doubt it. It’ll probably only turn up at a critical moment.’

Alvin secretly made a mental note. It was a rotten thing to do, but he was going to get that medicine before his sister could.

The two of them dropped Luna off at an intersection, where they saw a man waiting for her.

"That’s my cousin," Luna explained.

Alvin breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, good, you have someone picking you up. That’s great. Try not to stay out too late. It’s not safe for a young woman to be out alone."

Jane looked away, and the car quickly drove off.

As they drove, she watched the scenery recede and suddenly said, "Stop!"

The driver slammed on the brakes.

Alvin was confused. "Jay, what’s wrong?"

"Nothing much. I just saw a friend and want to catch up." Jane opened the door and got out of the car.

Willow Summers was standing on the side of the road, kicking listlessly at a pebble.

"What are you doing here?" Hearing the voice, she looked up in disbelief, her gaze meeting Jane’s smiling eyes.

"You’re here too? Did Pauline Shaw ask you to come?" Willow’s expression faltered.

Jane was surprised. "Pauline’s here too?"

After a pause, she explained, "I didn’t know Pauline was here. I came to see you. Shouldn’t friends say hi when they run into each other?"

Pauline Shaw, who was just walking out, happened to overhear this and couldn’t help but sneer inwardly.

’Friends? What a joke. Isn’t she just trying to use Willow to get what she wants?’

"Pauline, what a coincidence. I didn’t realize you were here," Jane said, turning to walk toward Pauline.

Willow snapped back to reality and shot Jane a vicious glare.

’This woman is definitely up to no good. I’m not falling for it!’

Jane also had to marvel at how strange fate could be. Pauline couldn’t stand social climbers like Willow, yet she kept running into her.

Pauline was at a company dinner with her manager. After the incident on the golf course, her manager had indeed given her the cold shoulder for a while.

But she’d adjusted her attitude and thrown herself into her work, recently closing several major deals that had kept her manager very pleased.

The manager had started to value her again. In fact, tonight’s dinner was basically a celebration in her honor.

It should have been a celebratory occasion, but of course, she had to run into Willow Summers.

And that wasn’t all. The major client her manager was fawning over turned out to be Jim Jenson.

Jim was apparently so smitten with Willow that he’d brought her along to a business dinner.

The manager was an astute man. Seeing how much importance Jim placed on Willow, he tactfully had his employees toast her.

Even the manager himself proposed a toast, so of course, Pauline couldn’t get out of it.

Pauline composed herself and said with a smile, "Jay, since we’re here, why don’t you join us for dinner? Young Master Jenson just said he’s paying for everything, anyway."

’This was a perfect chance to let Jane see how the precious Willow she was trying to "save" was using others to get ahead.’

It’s a virtue to be agreeable, so Jane accepted without a moment’s hesitation.

’There’s drama to watch, of course I’m going. This is the perfect chance to see how Pauline gets manipulated.’

Pauline was speechless.

She gritted her teeth. ’Just you wait,’ she thought. ’Don’t blame me when you’re humiliated later!’

As Jane walked into the private room, she saw Jim Jenson pulling out a chair for Willow, waiting for her to sit down.

Everyone at the table was teasing him, saying Young Master Jenson was so considerate.

Pauline sneered inwardly. Of course Jim would put on a show like this to win a girl over.

But Willow wasn’t a pushover, either. After Jane’s warning, she was probably playing hard to get and stringing Jim along.

She would probably take advantage of his infatuation to get a hefty sum of money out of him, or, if she were more ambitious, she’d try to get her hooks into him and marry into a wealthy family, leaping up the social ladder.

One was greedy, the other was lecherous. Who knows, maybe Willow really was the more cunning of the two and would end up as the next Mrs. Jenson.

"Jay, see how considerate Young Master Jenson is to Willow? I told you it was unnecessary to warn her to be on her guard," Pauline said deliberately.

Jim Jenson’s expression had already soured the moment he saw Jane walk in.

After hearing Pauline’s words, it became downright foul.

’So that’s it,’ he thought. ’No wonder Willow has been playing so hard to get lately. It was this woman pulling the strings behind the scenes.’

"Well, well, Miss Lancaster. A rare sight indeed. I’m not sure how I’ve offended you that you feel the need to slander me like this, but for Willow’s sake, I’ll let it slide."

Jim stood up, picked up a serving pitcher, and poured two glasses of wine. "We’re all going to be running in the same circles. How about this? I’ll toast you, and we can let bygones be bygones."

"Sorry, I don’t drink," Jane refused flatly. "And as for whether or not you’ve offended me, don’t you have a clue?"

Jim’s expression froze. ’In front of all these people, she’s not giving me any face at all?’

’Isn’t she afraid I’ll get angry and cancel the deal, dragging Pauline down with her?’

Pauline started to regret her momentary spite. "Jay’s just joking, Young Master Jenson. Please don’t take it to heart."
