Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Good Health is the Most Sincere Blessing
Jane Lancaster walked into the consultation room and paused, surprised to see who was sitting inside.
"Dr. Sheffield, what are you doing here?" Alvin Lancaster took two steps forward, leaning on his cane.
Claire Sheffield’s hand was still wrapped in bandages. He was clearly an injured patient with limited mobility, yet he was part of today’s team of specialists.
"Miss Lancaster, we agreed to see each other at your follow-up appointment. I always see things through to the end." Claire Sheffield gave Jane Lancaster a deep look.
After he went home yesterday, lying in bed late at night, half-asleep and half-awake, he suddenly remembered something she had said—"See you next month, Dr. Sheffield."
Then, as if a flash of insight had split his mind open, Jane Lancaster’s expression and actions from that day replayed in his mind with perfect clarity.
The more he thought about it, the more he broke out in a cold sweat.
It was as if his fate, plummeting into an abyss, had been forcefully nudged in another direction by a single hand.
Those words, "See you next month," were both a form of protection and the most sincere blessing.
So even though Jane Lancaster’s follow-up was moved up, he still came. He was here to fulfill their agreement.
After a pause, Claire Sheffield added in a gentle voice, "Of course, my mentor will be handling your follow-up today. I’m just here to observe and learn."
Pauline Shaw had received a message from her cousin early in the morning and rushed to the hospital.
She messaged her cousin as soon as she arrived, not expecting him to immediately start a video call.
Holding her phone, Pauline Shaw walked to the door of the consultation room. She, too, was surprised to see Claire Sheffield.
What she found even stranger was that Claire Sheffield’s tone toward Jane Lancaster was far too gentle.
He wasn’t like this before. He used to be cold, harsh, and a bit aloof.
"What happened to Dr. Sheffield?" Caleb Lowell’s sharp eyes immediately spotted the bandages on Claire Sheffield’s hand, and his brow furrowed.
Pauline Shaw snapped back to reality, stepped aside, and recounted the story of the stabbing incident at the hospital.
If Luna Morgan hadn’t been following the story, she wouldn’t have known the details so clearly.
"A hospital orderly was stabbed twice. His condition suddenly worsened, and he almost died. Luckily, Luna found him, and his life was saved," Pauline Shaw remarked casually.
Caleb Lowell: "Are you sure the stabbing happened in the morning?"
"Yeah, around eleven o’clock." Pauline Shaw was confused. ’Is there something wrong with that time?’
Caleb Lowell didn’t say much more, only telling Pauline Shaw to let him know when the test results came out.
Pauline Shaw: "Aren’t you going to say hi to Jay?"
"No, let her finish her check-up first." Caleb Lowell stared at the camera, then changed his mind. "Actually... never mind. Give the phone to Jay..."
Pauline Shaw didn’t process what her cousin had said at the end until after the video call disconnected.
But she didn’t pay it much mind. Her cousin secretly video-called Jane Lancaster countless times a day; this one occasion didn’t make a difference.
Caleb Lowell stared at the dark screen of his phone and couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of his nose.
So the stabbing at the hospital did happen after all... Jane Lancaster’s prediction had come true.
But the event hadn’t unfolded exactly as foretold. It had happened in the morning, while her prediction specified noon.
The prediction only mentioned Dr. Sheffield being injured, but in reality, there were seven victims. Three were seriously injured and in the ICU, and Dr. Sheffield was not among them.
He refused to believe this wasn’t the result of human intervention.
"Pauline, did Jay go to the hospital on the day of the incident?" After some thought, he sent a voice message to his cousin.
She replied quickly: "She happened to be there that day, taking Mama Knight for a check-up. But she wasn’t involved and was completely unharmed."
A muscle in Caleb Lowell’s brow twitched sharply.
He stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the clean streets of the CBD. A few laborers were replanting the greenery in the flowerbeds.
Jane Lancaster had been at the hospital that day. He had a strong feeling it was no coincidence.
He made a call. "Chloe Dave, there’s something I need you to look into for me as soon as possible."
—
Thanks to the hospital rushing the process, Jane Lancaster’s test results came back quickly.
After a consultation with the specialists, a blond, blue-eyed foreign doctor gave the definitive diagnosis.
"I’ve never seen a patient in a vegetative state recover this quickly. She’s now basically no different from a normal person."
The consultation room immediately filled with joy.
"Really? Thank you, thank you, Doctor!" Mama Knight repeated her thanks effusively, then gave Claire Sheffield a deep, formal bow.
"It’s all thanks to Dr. Sheffield. You’ve helped our Miss so much."
This Dr. Sheffield might be strict, but today, he was the person she was most grateful to!
Claire Sheffield shook his head. "My contribution was limited. It was mainly the patient’s strong will and the excellent care from her family that allowed for such a fast recovery."
Jane Lancaster’s phone rang. It was Caleb Lowell, who had just received the news from Pauline Shaw and was video-calling immediately.
"Young Master Lowell, our Young Miss is all better! She’s going to be fine, and the thing in her brain is gone too!" Mama Knight excitedly shared the good news.
Years ago, Jane Lancaster had suffered a head injury that put her in a coma. To make matters worse, about a year later, something had started growing in her brain.
Not only that, but she also had numerous complications...
Although her life was saved and she had woken up, no one knew if there were other hidden dangers.
The worry that had been weighing on Caleb Lowell’s heart finally lifted. "Jay, it’s so wonderful that you’ve recovered."
Julian Lancaster: "It’s a shame I couldn’t be by her side when she first woke up."
His eyes held a hint of regret.
"I remember when the Young Miss first woke up, even making a fist was difficult. Just turning over would make her break out in a cold sweat from the pain..."
Tears streamed down Mama Knight’s face as she thought of how much her pampered Young Miss had suffered.
Jane Lancaster couldn’t truly empathize. Although she had the memories, she hadn’t actually experienced those things herself, so it was like listening to someone else’s story.
Still, seeing Mama Knight cry, her own eyes inexplicably started to burn, moved by the older woman’s emotions.
Alvin Lancaster: "Thankfully, it was Caleb Lowell and... who insisted on giving Jay traditional Chinese massages and physical therapy, which prevented muscle atrophy."
Caleb Lowell: "It was only right for me to take care of Jay."
Alvin’s pause was subtle, but Caleb knew exactly who he had been about to name. After all, not everyone knew traditional Chinese massage techniques; even the ones Caleb knew, he had learned from that same person.
Mama Knight wiped her tears. "Yes, Young Master Lowell was so devoted."
Thankfully, those terrible days were finally over. The Young Miss had woken up and was gradually regaining her health.
"May the Bodhisattva protect her. Such a good person like the Young Miss will surely live a long and happy life."
Jane Lancaster smiled. "Don’t worry. I’ll be happy and healthy from now on."
’I’ll be happy, and I’ll crush anyone I feel like crushing~’
’As for living a long life, forget it. I don’t need the Bodhisattva’s blessing for that.’
’As the villainess, of course I need to complete my mission as soon as possible and make my exit. Only then can I retire with my thirty billion. Why would I want to live a long life?’
Alvin Lancaster’s heart skipped a beat. He stared at Jane Lancaster, his expression a mixture of shock and suspicion.
’Last time, she said I’d be using Joss Paper soon, and now she’s even cursing herself?’
"Jay, you should say that you *will* live a long life," Julian Lancaster said, his expression serious.
Jane Lancaster: "Alright, a long life it is. A long life for everyone."
’Big Brother, you’re so narrow-minded. A long life? Don’t you know that wishing everyone here good health is the most sincere blessing you could give?’
Her gaze first swept over to Alvin Lancaster. ’Unrequited love will eventually drive him insane.’
Alvin Lancaster: "..."
Even though he had heard it once before, his heart still couldn’t help but sink.
