Chapter 26: Chapter 26: So What? I Just Like Bullying People With My Power
Jane Lancaster heard someone calling her name, but she turned a deaf ear. No one was going to stop her from beating someone up today.
’Stop? As if. I’ve been putting up with him for a long time.’
In fact, she considered herself pretty chill. Ever since transmigrating into the book, she had only been racking up villain points around the main characters without causing any real trouble.
But this guy right here had clouded her judgment and nearly caused her to make a disastrous mistake.
"I told you to get lost. Didn’t you hear me?" She hit him again with the back of her hand.
She knew you couldn’t count on idiots, which was why she’d told him to get far away. Why couldn’t he just listen?
"Is it fun standing there enjoying the show?" She slapped him again.
"You still dare to spout nonsense at a time like this?"
She didn’t mind someone else taking credit for her work, but it absolutely could not be Ethan Carter.
After everything that had happened, she had already connected many of the clues and deduced the truth.
Jane Lancaster slapped him a dozen or so times. At first, Ethan Carter tried to fight back, but after realizing it was useless, he started crying and begging for mercy.
Zoe Carter was so furious her eyes turned red. She tried to rush forward several times but was blocked by Jasper Sterling. She could only glare at him angrily. "You’re bullying him because you have power!"
"Oh? So what? I enjoy bullying people with my power," Jane Lancaster said, pausing.
She was genuinely fired up now and wouldn’t mind if someone else wanted to step up and offer their head.
Jasper Sterling glanced worriedly at her dangling right hand, then gently took it to give it a massage.
Jane Lancaster sucked in a sharp breath.
’Holy meow, I forgot that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. I should’ve used a tool.’
’It’s been too long since I’ve slapped someone. I got careless.’
Jasper Sterling’s touch softened, but a hidden worry remained in his eyes.
He had been suspicious before. Jane Lancaster’s fingers were trembling abnormally. She had a high pain tolerance, so her reaction shouldn’t be this severe just from the recoil of a few slaps.
The problem was, he couldn’t see any obvious injuries on her hand, which made him even more anxious.
"Does your hand still hurt a lot?" he asked while gently massaging it.
Zoe Carter couldn’t help but sneer. She felt like she was in some fantasy world. How could someone be so shameless?
Complaining that her hand hurt after hitting someone... As expected of a young miss from The Celestials, she always found a new way to shatter Zoe’s understanding of the world.
Ethan Carter quickly shouted, "Zoe, call the police! She’s trying to kill me! My wound reopened! I’m going to die! WAAAH!"
His loud sobs echoed throughout the hall.
Rage burned in Zoe Carter’s eyes, and she prepared to dial without hesitation.
She despised Jane Lancaster’s unreasonable tyranny. This time, she would risk everything to get justice for her father!
"Just you wait! Assaulting a hero for no reason... I refuse to believe there’s no place for justice in this world!"
"You think you’re some kind of big shot, don’t you? Praised so much you act like a lawless tyrant! I’m going to expose you online and see if you can still act so high and mighty!"
Alvin Lancaster’s wheelchair was stopped a dozen meters away. He had given up on trying to intervene.
He could see many people taking photos and videos. He didn’t need to think to know that as soon as Ethan Carter, the victim, posted his tearful story online, his sister’s reputation would be ruined.
But he couldn’t stop any of it, nor did he want to.
His sister’s inner thought proved that she didn’t think she was wrong at all. What was the point in stopping her?
"Wait, may I say a few words?" Claire Sheffield emerged, leaning on an IV stand.
Zoe Carter paused and lowered her phone. "Dr. Sheffield?"
She wanted to hear what Dr. Sheffield, who had been at the scene, thought about the matter.
Claire Sheffield said, "I was there. I can confirm that Caregiver Clark was not the one who saved the victims."
The nurses hadn’t wanted him to come out, but he couldn’t stand by while someone twisted the truth.
"The person who saved them was clearly—"
"It was clearly Dr. Sheffield!" Jane Lancaster interrupted him loudly.
Claire Sheffield froze, looking at her in confusion.
"And Dr. Nathan Larson," Jane Lancaster added, staring at Claire Sheffield.
Nathan Larson was the female doctor who had been covering for Claire Sheffield. She had only dislocated her wrist, and after it was reset, she went with a few heroic bystanders to give a statement.
Claire Sheffield seemed to understand the meaning in her eyes and didn’t say any more.
Mama Knight looked at Jane Lancaster suspiciously. "Young Miss, was it you...?"
Jane Lancaster turned to look at the emergency room. The doors were shut tight, and the light indicating a surgery in progress was on.
The ones undergoing surgery inside were the two young women who were attacked first. She still remembered how one of them had struggled to lift her head from a pool of blood to look back.
Her eyes had been wet and bewildered, as if she couldn’t understand why something like this would happen to her.
They didn’t know, but Jane Lancaster knew with absolute clarity—
They were innocent bystanders caught up in the consequences of her misjudgment.
’If it weren’t for me, they wouldn’t have been hurt at all.’
"No, I wasn’t at the scene," Jane Lancaster denied flatly. She shoved her hands in her pockets, her heart cold and detached.
’How could a villainess possibly do a good deed? What a joke. A villainess only wants glory and riches.’
’Compared to money, a good reputation isn’t even worth mentioning, okay?’
In the crowd, Alvin Lancaster’s expression darkened, while Jasper Sterling’s brows furrowed.
He didn’t know what Jane Lancaster had foreseen or what had happened at the time, but it was clearly an accident. How could she take the blame for it?
"Jay, those two young women aren’t in any mortal danger..." he began, but was cut off.
"It was you who provoked Lawson into going crazy and attacking people! You deliberately said he knocked your bag on the ground and demanded 110,000 from him! It’s all your fault!"
Seeing Jane Lancaster deny her involvement, an idea suddenly struck Ethan Carter.
’She must be afraid of the story about her pressuring Lawson getting out, that’s why she’s denying it!’
’If that’s the case, why not add some fuel to the fire? Since I’m not getting out of this looking good, she won’t either!’
"Nonsense! Our Young Miss is not that kind of person!" Mama Knight fumed.
Alvin Lancaster stared at Jane Lancaster’s expression, and his heart sank. His sister... she didn’t refute it.
Jasper Sterling looked at Ethan Carter, his eyes cold. "How can you prove you aren’t framing and slandering her?"
Ethan Carter’s heart skipped a beat. This man’s gaze was not that of a kind person; he wasn’t someone Ethan could afford to provoke.
But at this point, he had no other choice. He had to harden his heart and drag Jane Lancaster down with him.
Besides, women were timid and afraid of trouble. As long as he stuck to his story, he didn’t believe she could fight back.
"Lawson was terrified at the time! He ran to the stairwell to hide, and he told me himself! He was afraid you’d call the police on him and kept saying he didn’t want to live anymore! You pushed him to it!"
"You’re too much! Driving a man insane over a handbag! And look what happened! So many people got hurt because of you!"
Jane Lancaster seemed to have been frightened by his accusations, lowering her head without a word.
Ethan Carter immediately became more self-righteous and accused her loudly, "Aren’t you afraid the families of the injured will come after you for revenge?"
The people nearby looked at Jane Lancaster with suspicion, wondering if her silence was due to a guilty conscience.
Mama Knight was frantic. She was about to retort when Jane Lancaster held her back.
Zoe Carter sneered, "So this is the real reason for today’s attack. How can you be so vicious?"
"I’m flattered by the compliment." The moment Jane Lancaster said this, Zoe Carter nearly exploded with rage.
’Weird. What’s she so angry about? Isn’t it a good thing that I’m admitting to it?’
