Chapter 135: Survivors!

The Starlink Island... was no more.

The moment Chen Xuan and Chi Yao arrived, they realized that the entire island had fallen into ruin.

Its cities, both large and small, had been reduced to rubble under the assault of the beasts.

Countless flying beasts circled through the skies above their heads, while along the shoreline, sea beasts surfaced from the water as though waiting for fresh prey to reveal itself.

At first, Chen Xuan did not understand what they were doing.

However, only moments later, a human cultivator suddenly rushed out from the island and attempted to flee.

Before he could get far, a tentacle shot up from beneath the waves and wrapped tightly around him before dragging him into the sea.

The waters churned violently.

It was as though hundreds of sea beasts were fighting over who would devour him first.

Witnessing this scene and sensing the few remaining human auras scattered across the island, Chen Xuan quickly grasped the situation.

Starlink Island had clearly fallen to the beast riot long ago.

Most cultivators had already perished, while the survivors remained trapped.

They could not fly too high, lest they attract the flying beasts. Similarly, they could not approach the sea, as countless monsters waited to drag them into the depths.

For all intents and purposes, they had become prisoners on their own island.

Chen Xuan frowned.

He put the zombie back into the Death-Binding Ring and was about to descend into the island.

He understood that gathering information was the highest priority.

At the moment, the only source of information available was the handful of survivors.

Yet his actions seemed to draw the attention of a nearby beast.

Its head snapped toward them, crimson eyes fixing on Chen Xuan and Chi Yao as it prepared to dive down and tear them with its claws.

Fortunately, Chen Xuan had always remained vigilant of his surroundings.

A streak of sword light flashed through the air, tearing the Core Formation beast apart before it could alert the others.

Then, concealing both his aura and Chi Yao’s as much as possible, he swiftly descended.

--

The situation on the island was exactly as he had expected.

Signs of battle covered every corner, while bloodstains and corpses littered every inch of the land.

Although he had previously sensed the presence of humans, Chen Xuan found it difficult to determine their exact locations.

Clearly, those who had survived until now had not done so through sheer luck. Each possessed methods of concealment that allowed them to hide from both beasts and cultivators.

Several minutes passed before Chen Xuan finally located someone.

Staring at an ordinary-looking hill in the distance, he clenched his fist and punched forward.

A massive hole opened in the hillside. At first glance, only more stone could be seen within.

Yet as Chen Xuan activated the Heavenly Insight Eye, he saw the truth behind this illusion.

Inside the hidden cave were two people.

A man dressed in blue robes and a young woman.

The man stood with a vicious grin on his face, while the woman remained bound, tears running down her cheeks as she struggled helplessly against the metal restraints.

"Shut your mouth! Do you want to attract the beasts outside?"

"For both our sakes, you’d better stay quiet! Don’t worry. As long as you satisfy my needs, I might consider sparing your life after I’m done having my fun."

A flicker of horror crossed the woman’s face.

Even so, after hearing him mention the beasts outside, she could only do her best to suppress the fear in her heart.

She didn’t want to die just yet. She had only just embarked on the path of cultivation.

The man sneered when he saw her reaction.

Taking another step forward, he reached into his robes and was about to burst into "actions".

But just then, his face suddenly changed.

"Who?!"

He shouted and spun around, only to discover that two figures had somehow entered the cave without his knowledge.

Shock flashed across his features before quickly turning into terror.

This hiding place was concealed by a formation he had discovered in his youth.

He had tested it many times before. Even Peak Foundation Establishment cultivators were unable to detect anything unusual and would only be able to see the illusion he had woven.

For someone to uncover it and enter without alerting him, one of these two people had to be an expert.

Under normal circumstances, he would have been delighted to meet another cultivator during such desperate times.

But looking at his current situation, he knew he was bound to be in trouble.

He didn’t hesitate. The man immediately mobilized his Spiritual Energy, wanting to escape.

Unfortunately, before he could take even a single step...

A bolt of lightning descended upon him.

Bang!

His head exploded instantly.

The body continued stumbling forward for several more steps before collapsing onto the ground.

Chen Xuan was briefly taken aback.

He turned to look at Chi Yao, who had just attacked.

Looking at her indifferent expression, she seemed not to feel anything about killing this man.

Yet after a closer look, Chen Xuan noticed a trace of hatred hidden within her eyes.

Obviously, despite being a demonic cultivator herself, Chi Yao despised the methods this man had employed.

Chen Xuan said nothing.

He simply patted her shoulder before walking toward the captive woman.

The woman froze for a moment, but after seeing him remove her restraints, gratitude quickly filled her eyes.

"Thank you! Thank you for saving me! I’ll do everything in my power to repay today’s favor!"

She hurriedly spoke, looking ready to kneel before both Chen Xuan and Chi Yao.

However, before she could complete the gesture, a gentle force appeared and lifted her upright.

"There’s no need for that. It’s the duty of all righteous cultivators to deal with scum like him."

Seeing that she still seemed unconvinced, Chen Xuan continued.

"If you’d like to repay us, why not tell us what happened to the island?"

"My disciple and I have been in seclusion during this period. When we emerged, all we saw was the chaos outside."

Hearing those words, the woman’s eyes lit up.

Ignoring her current embarrassing state, she opened her mouth to speak.

Forgetting her current disheveled appearance, she immediately began to speak.
