Chapter 94: Lightning and Wood Spirits
"How is it?" Sylvie asked. "Can she come here?"
"Yes." Ren gave a small nod. "She is on her way here."
"That’s great!" Sylvie smiled.
At this moment, Virelia was both happy and sad.
She was the reason he had lost his left arm, so she wished she could be the one to help him.
Several minutes later, Aria and Veronica arrived at the hospital.
They stopped their footsteps and stared at each other when they met in front of Ren’s patient room.
Even though they had a bad relationship, they didn’t fight immediately since both of them knew where they were.
"What are you doing here?" Aria’s voice was filled with coldness.
She didn’t try to hide her hatred since she preferred honesty over pretense.
"I want to visit my student. He is being treated here." Veronica’s expression remained as calm as before.
Aria turned in the direction Veronica was looking. "Your student is Ren?"
"Oh! He didn’t tell you about me?" Veronica mocked Aria by pretending to be surprised. "It seems you are not as special as I am to him."
Aria’s expression darkened.
She knew that Ren had hired a mage to broaden his knowledge of magic and help him create his own skills, but she didn’t know that she was Veronica.
Aria quickly stepped into the patient room to ask for an explanation.
Ren was startled when he saw Aria. "Leader, you are here?"
"Ren, what do you mean by this?" Aria’s voice was calm, but her face showed her displeasure. "Why didn’t you tell me your teacher was her?"
"Oops! Ren is in danger." Sylvie covered her mouth.
Ren glanced at Veronica before returning his attention to Aria. "Leader, I don’t understand what you mean. Is there something wrong with teacher Veronica?"
"Do you know who she is?" Aria didn’t answer his question.
"A powerful lightning mage?" He was still confused about what was going on.
"No! I mean her identity." Aria clarified her question.
"Her name is Veronica, a powerful mage with deep knowledge of lightning, crystal, and wood elements." He gave a similar answer.
"She is the leader of the Nexus Organization, Ren. Her name is Veronica Dawncrest." Aria explained why she was unhappy. "You are a member of my faction. Why did you take her as your teacher?"
"What?!" his eyes widened in shock.
Sylvie said nothing about Veronica, and Veronica said she didn’t join any organization, so the truth stunned him greatly.
"How do you know her?" Aria wanted to know how a new awakener like him could meet a big shot like Veronica.
He grew up in an orphanage and had no connections whatsoever, so it should have been impossible for him to know someone as important as Veronica.
Ren didn’t answer and turned to Sylvie.
"Sylvie?! You are also here?" Aria was filled with displeasure, so she didn’t pay attention to her surroundings.
"You two know each other?" Ren was shocked once more.
"So, it was you who introduced her to him?" Aria approached Sylvie with a displeased expression. "You know my relationship with her, so why did you do that?"
"Calm down, Aria. There are sick people here. Let’s talk outside." Sylvie took Aria and Veronica out of the patient room.
"Just who is Mrs Sylvie? How could she know them?" Ren mused.
At the same time, Sylvie was trying to calm Aria down. They were in a hospital, so they must not cause any ruckus.
"Sylvie, why did you do that?" Aria repeated her question.
"Ren asked me to help him find a lightning mage with deep knowledge, so I introduced her." Sylvie gave an honest answer.
"Why her?" There are many lightning mages in Valoria, so Aria was not happy with Sylvie’s choice.
"Because I’m the best lightning mage in Valoria." It might sound like Veronica was praising herself, but this was the truth.
Aria shot her a cold glare.
"Aria, I don’t think we should make a big deal out of this. He has joined your organization. Won’t you be the one who benefits if he becomes stronger?" Sylvie used a different method to calm Aria down.
"What if she steals him from me later?" Aria asked as she stared at Veronica.
Ren was not an ordinary awakener.
He was someone who awakened both paths.
Let alone the Nexus Organization, even their main branch would try to take him if they learned about him because he was like a treasure in this world.
"Ren won’t leave your faction to join hers." Sylvie knew his personality well.
Ren was not someone who repaid kindness with evil. He had gained many benefits from joining her organization, so she believed he would not betray her.
Unless he wanted to create his own faction, she was one hundred percent sure he would not leave.
"Don’t worry. I won’t try to take him from you." Veronica knew why Ren chose Aria’s organization over hers.
"I don’t believe you." Aria thought Veronica was lying.
"I’m his teacher. I’m already satisfied with our relationship. After all, that’s better than a subordinate–leader relationship." Veronica emphasized her words when she told Aria the difference in their status.
Aria’s expression darkened.
She hated to admit it, but her words were true.
"Alright. Let’s go back now. We need to treat Ren immediately." Sylvie took them back to the patient room.
Once she was next to him, Veronica said, "Ren, I know you are disappointed, but I have a few reasons for hiding my identity from you."
She told him that everything would be complicated if she revealed the truth. After all, she was the leader of the Nexus Organization, a rival of the faction he had joined.
"I hope you can forgive me and we can act like before." Veronica apologized.
Ren took a deep breath before finally exhaling slowly. "I forgive you this time, but I don’t want you to lie to me again. I hate liars."
She didn’t cause any problems for him or anyone around him, so he could forget it. Otherwise, he would have told her to leave the patient’s room.
"Great!" Veronica smiled happily. "Alright. Now, I will treat you."
Ren nodded his head.
Before Veronica activated her Regeneration Magic, a small being appeared from the void and floated on her right side.
The figure looked like a tiny fairy.
She had bright emerald eyes, long green hair, and a pair of beautiful wings on her back. She also wore a set of elegant green clothes, as if she were a spirit born from nature itself.
Ren, Elara, David, Lily, and Virelia were shocked when they saw her. They knew there were many races in the world, but they had never imagined that a beautiful, tiny being like her existed.
"She is Liora, a wood spirit." Veronica introduced her. "I awakened the crystal element, but with Liora’s help, I can use the wood element as well."
Ren looked at Liora intently.
’She is like a character in a manga.’
He suddenly remembered his past life.
"So cute!" Lily suddenly wanted to touch Liora.
"Hello, everyone. I’m Liora." Liora said cheerfully.
"She can talk, too?!" Lily’s eyes shone brightly.
She quickly moved closer to Liora and leaned in.
"Hello, Liora. I’m Lily. Nice to meet you." Lily raised her right index finger as she introduced herself.
Liora held her finger with both hands and replied, "Nice to meet you too, Lily."
While Lily was chatting with Liora, Ren touched his chin.
’So, we can use more than one element with the help of a spirit?’
Countless questions flashed through his mind.
"Your guess is right, but we need to form a contract with them if we want to borrow their power." Veronica knew what Ren had in mind.
"Form a contract?" He learned a new thing again.
"Ren, forming a contract with a spirit is extremely hard." Sylvie began explaining.
Spirits were different from other races. They got their power from nature, so it could be said they were its representatives.
Not all spirits wanted to make a contract with other races.
The reason was one thing.
Their future!
Once they formed a contract, their future would be placed in their contractor’s hands.
Their power would become the same as their contractor’s, and if the contractor died, they would never be able to advance to the next rank.
This was the reason why only a few were willing to make a contract, because they would be bound to their contractor forever.
"Unless they trust you, like your personality or your goals, they will never make a contract with you," Sylvie said. "Even if you are a genius, that doesn’t guarantee they will agree. You must have something they recognize as worth following."
Ren turned to Veronica and praised her. "Teacher, you are amazing!"
Veronica smiled proudly. "Do you finally see how incredible your teacher is now?"
Ren suddenly remembered her previous words. "Wait! You said you awakened the crystal element. Does that mean you also formed a contract with a lightning spirit?"
"Yes." After saying that, Veronica called her lightning spirit.
A small being emerged from the void.
He had blue hair, blue eyes, and a pair of blue wings on his back. His size was the same as Liora’s.
His name was Zephyra.
The moment Zephyra appeared, he immediately said, "Veronica, is someone giving you trouble? Where is he? I will burn him with my lightning."
"No. I just want to introduce you to my student and my friends." Veronica replied.
"Introduce me? Don’t call me out for something so stupid!" After saying that, Zephyra vanished.
"Hehe." Veronica giggled softly. "Sorry, Ren. He is just not good at expressing himself."
The corner of Ren’s lips twitched.
’What was it called again... a tsundere?’
He said in his mind.
"Alright. I will treat you now." Veronica said.
