Chapter 366: Chapter 327: Different Worlds (3)

Wen Ying walked over to the stool beside the desk and sat down leisurely. "Am I not allowed to be here?"

"Of course not! Leave right now, or else—"

"Be punished?" Wen Ying finished the head nurse’s unspoken threat, her expression nonchalant.

Only then did the head nurse remember that this woman wasn’t afraid of such things. ’How did such a troublemaker end up in this new batch! She’s practically a bug in the system!’

The head nurse stared coldly at Wen Ying, but Wen Ying’s gaze drifted to what the nurse had been eating—a black, mushy lump of who-knows-what.

In any case, it looked thoroughly disgusting.

"I want to go to the third floor."

"Impossible!" the head nurse shrieked, rejecting Wen Ying’s request.

’This human is too much! How dare she make demands of me?! If I weren’t so outmatched, I’d have torn this human to pieces long ago! But as things stood, all I can do is endure it.’

"Cleaning is too boring. I heard the third floor is short on orderlies. Now that I’m volunteering for the job, why would you refuse me?"

"Didn’t the last batch of orderlies on the third floor all die? Since you hate me so much, why would you be reluctant to send me to my death?"

Wen Ying’s eyes filled with mock confusion. "You don’t have a secret crush on me, do you? There’s no future for a human and a spider."

’This human is getting more and more ridiculous!’

The head nurse’s chest heaved with anger.

’This human is right. The third floor... I am, in fact, at my wit’s end over the situation up there. Of the humans who went before, one went mad, and the rest all died. The patients on the third floor need interaction, but none of the current orderlies are willing to go. The selection was supposed to be made today... and now, this human is actually volunteering!’

’It wasn’t that I’m reluctant to let her go. I just feel my authority has been challenged! Why should I be ordered around by this human?! But then again... she has a point. Since I’m helpless against her anyway, I might as well send her to the third floor to be tormented!’

"Finish today’s cleaning, and I’ll give you a new assignment tomorrow."

Seeing the head nurse relent, a smile slowly bloomed on Wen Ying’s face.

"I’ve already finished the cleaning. Didn’t you already inspect it, Head Nurse?" Wen Ying said slowly, her voice faint and chilling.

The head nurse, who had wanted to put Wen Ying in her place, was once again left speechless.

’Was that really "finished"? That was just making a bigger mess! But I already got a brutal beating from this human over the whole cleaning issue... do I really want to get beaten up again?’

"I’ll have someone else do the cleaning. Report to the third floor tomorrow."

Wen Ying stood up, very satisfied. As she was leaving, the head nurse added, "Go back where you belong, now. You’re not allowed in here. If you don’t, I’ll revoke your right to go to the third floor."

"No problem. I’m a big believer in following the rules."

"Zheng Yao!!!"

The sudden shout struck Wen Ying’s ears like a clap of thunder.

It even seemed to make the floor tremble.

When the head nurse heard the voice, her expression changed drastically. Ignoring Wen Ying completely, she ran straight out of the office.

By the time Wen Ying stepped out, the head nurse was nowhere to be seen in the hallway.

The previously chaotic hallway was now eerily quiet.

It was as if everything Wen Ying had seen before had been an illusion.

But everything clicked into place when Wen Ying saw a patient cowering under a table in the corner.

The patient was hidden under the table in the corner, his body trembling uncontrollably. His face was pale, and he was clearly terrified, muttering something under his breath. "Don’t take me, don’t take me..."

His state was bizarre; he didn’t even notice when Wen Ying crouched down to look at him. He just kept trembling and muttering under his breath.

It was as if he were praying.

Wen Ying watched for a moment before sighing and heading back the way she came.

’Zheng Yao... is that the head nurse’s name? That’s a surprisingly normal human name. But who would dare to yell like that in a place like this? Who could make the head nurse pale with fear and send the patients hiding in terror?’

Just as Wen Ying reached the door, she saw a small child outside a storage closet to the side. The child was cowering under a large basin, trembling, a puddle of liquid spreading out from underneath.

Without a backward glance, Wen Ying walked through the door.

Everything familiar reappeared. The door was like the Han and Chu River, a stark, clear boundary splitting the old castle into two completely different worlds.

After Wen Ying stepped out, the Black Cat was perched on a sconce on the hallway wall, watching her.

"You... you can cross over?"
