Chapter 364: Chapter 327: A Different World

The old man seemed to have it out for the flowerpot, repeating the same motion over a dozen times.

After Wen Ying watched him repeat this process over a dozen times like a bystander, the old man plopped onto the ground and lay flat on his back.

He closed his eyes and began to snore soundly.

Wen Ying took a closer look and confirmed that the old man was, in fact, asleep.

’This bizarre behavior... he really must be a patient from the mental hospital, right?’

Beside the old man lay fresh soil, shards of the flowerpot, and shredded petals.

Wen Ying got up and looked at the nearby bed, which was made with a white sheet.

The mattress was quite thick and looked very soft.

Wen Ying walked over and lay down on the bed. Without glancing at the room’s contents, she closed her eyes.

She had to admit, this bed was far more comfortable than the one in the basement.

When Wen Ying woke up some time later, she found the old man staring at her, completely still.

Seeing her awake, the old man blinked. "Little girl, what are you doing in my bed?"

Without waiting for Wen Ying to answer, he continued, "You must be the new caregiver, right? Let me tell you, there’s no way you’re taking my Little Hong away! Unless..."

At this, the old man paused and said no more.

Wen Ying prompted him, "Unless what?"

Seeing Wen Ying take the bait, the old man suddenly grew animated, an unconcealable excitement on his face. "Unless you give me something yummy! Otherwise, there’s no way I’m lending you Little Hong!"

’Just what is this Little Hong?’

Recalling how the old man had called the flower in the pot Little Hong, Wen Ying felt she needed to get to the bottom of it.

After all, she had a mouth she could use to ask.

"What is Little Hong? Is it a flower, a small animal, or your child?"

The old man instantly grew wary, glaring at Wen Ying with displeasure. "You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you? You want to steal my Little Hong! I won’t let you!"

"Is it Little Hong, Little White, Little Huang, or Little Black?"

"Of course it’s Little Huang!" The old man suddenly slapped a hand over his mouth, glaring at Wen Ying in annoyance. "You’re a bad girl! Get out of my room!"

But Wen Ying didn’t get up from the hospital bed. Instead, she turned to look out the window.

The sky outside was an artificial, gloomy gray, as if painted on a canvas.

"Do you know the head nurse?"

"Who’d want to know that woman? Now hurry up and get out of here, little girl!"

"Tell me about the patients here, and I’ll leave right away. How about it?"

Wen Ying sat up, watching the old man with keen interest.

The old man huffed, clearly reluctant to talk, but he also didn’t want the girl to stay in his room any longer.

"The head nurse is coming to do her rounds soon! Hurry up and leave, go on!"

As he spoke, the old man reached out to pull Wen Ying, but she dodged him and hopped off the bed on her own.

"Alright, I’m leaving. You get some rest."

Before she left, Wen Ying scanned the room’s layout and decor.

The moment Wen Ying stepped out, the old man slammed the door shut behind her with a loud BANG.

The decor in the hallway looked old, yet classical.

The walls were covered in various murals reminiscent of a Gothic style, and all the decorations followed the same theme.

But in this setting, the style looked gloomy and terrifying.

Wen Ying glanced around the second floor. Doors, each leading to a patient’s room, were spaced about ten feet apart down the hall.

In total, there were over twenty rooms on the second floor.

After a quick survey, Wen Ying decided to head to the third floor—the floor the man who’d been scared out of his wits had gone to.

But when she reached the top of the stairs to the third floor, she found she couldn’t take that final step onto the landing.

It was as if something was blocking her path—an invisible but very real wall.

Wen Ying lifted her foot, intending to give the barrier a kick, but was stopped short. [Dearest Host, entry to the third floor requires the head nurse’s approval. Absolutely no violence, okay?~]

Hearing this, Wen Ying turned and went straight back downstairs.

’Since the System has spoken, I might as well humor it. I’ll check out the second floor first.’

The room right next to the stairs belonged to the old man who’d been shouting about Little Hong or Little Huang. No need to check that one again.

When she reached the second room, she found the door was locked.

Wen Ying went down the line, trying each door. Her expression shifted when she was done. ’They’re all locked?’

’They weren’t locked before. That means they were all locked while I was on the stairs to the third floor.’

’To lock all of them in such a short amount of time...’

’Besides, the hospital never seems very lively. You only occasionally see a few people running around, and it’s hard to tell if they’re NPCs or actual patients.’

As she was going downstairs, Wen Ying once again encountered the Black Cat.
