Chapter 456: Chapter 456: Saying I Love You From This Moment On (56)

Amelia Avery didn’t know how long she had been staring into space before she finally came to her senses. She threw back the covers and got out of bed, but the moment her feet touched the floor, her legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed to her knees. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Enduring the pain racking her body, she walked to the window. She placed both hands on the frame and gazed at the scenery outside.

Her mind drifted back to scenes from her childhood.

When she was little, whenever Cassian Jennings came over to play with her brother, she loved to follow him around. Back then, she simply thought that out of all the older boys, Cassian was the gentlest and most handsome.

Tristan, on the other hand, always had such a cold expression that he scared her. And Ian Shaw was the biggest prankster of them all, so she always had to worry about him teasing her.

That was why she only ever wanted to be close to Cassian.

As she grew older, she would see all sorts of women flocking around Cassian. It made her angry; it made her jealous.

But there was nothing she could do. She was still too young; she couldn’t be by his side every day like those other women.

She desperately wanted to grow up. Once she was grown, she could be by Cassian’s side every day, just like those other women.

But now she was grown, and she still couldn’t be by his side like those other women.

Because a certain relationship between them bound them tightly together.

She called him Cassian, but to him, she was only ever his little sister.

’That’s right. This relationship... this damned, so-called ’big brother, little sister’ dynamic...’

’The moment I confessed my feelings, he started avoiding me, acting like he wished he could escape my very existence.’

’And I... I could never, ever be Cassian Jennings’s woman.’

’It’s time. Maybe... it really is time.’

’I, Amelia Avery, shouldn’t be infatuated with Cassian Jennings anymore. I shouldn’t keep being so stubborn over a love I can never have.’

’To let Cassian go... and to let myself go, too...’

Thinking of all this, Amelia Avery’s lips twisted into a bitter smile as tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.

’So this is what it feels like... this sense of relief... after finally figuring it all out.’

In the hospital corridor, Aiden Avery sat on a chair, glaring at Cassian Jennings, who stood a short distance away. "Cassian Jennings," he said coldly, "you’re not welcome here."

A pained expression crossed Cassian Jennings’s face. His voice was hoarse as he said, "I just want to see her for a moment. Once I know she’s all right, I’ll leave."

"Whether she lives or dies has nothing to do with you. Get out." If Cassian hadn’t been a friend he’d grown up with, like a brother, he would have beaten him and thrown him out of the hospital long ago.

"I know you all hate my guts, and I hate myself just as much. But, Aiden, please believe me. I truly want Amelia to forgive me."

Aiden grew agitated. He shot up from his chair, strode over to Cassian Jennings, and grabbed him by the collar. "Cassian Jennings," he roared, "what the hell do you want now?"

"I want to..."

Before Cassian could finish, the door to the hospital room opened. Amelia Avery stood there, leaning against the frame for support. "Brother," she said coldly, "let him go."

"Amelia..." Hearing her voice, Cassian turned to her, his expression filled with emotion.

Seeing this, Aiden turned on his sister in exasperation. "Amelia Avery, what are you doing out here? Get back inside!"

"Brother, I just came out to make things clear."
