Chapter 457: Chapter 457: From This Moment On, I Will Say I Love You (Part 57)

Hearing Amelia’s words, Cassian’s heart filled with a growing unease. He slapped Aiden’s hand away and rushed to Amelia’s side, steadying her. "Amelia," he said urgently, "I’m sorry, I’m really so sorry..."

A bleak smile touched Amelia’s lips. She raised a hand to brush Cassian’s away and shook her head slightly. "Cassian, you haven’t done anything to wrong me. I’m the one who’s wronged you."

’Cassian?’ Cassian’s expression froze, his hands clenching into fists.

"Cassian, I was just thinking about... so many things from our past. The reason everything’s ended up like this is all my fault. I never should have fallen for you. I’m so, so sorry. I’m sorry to your father and mother, too. It’s because I was too selfish... that’s why I’ve caused the Jennings family so much trouble. Cassian, I’m truly sorry. Truly. I hope you can all forgive me. From now on, I promise I will never, ever bother you again..."

Amelia’s words sent waves of pain through Cassian’s heart. His voice trembled as he spoke. "Amelia..." ’She doesn’t want to chase after me anymore? But... how could she not? How can she just stop?’

’How could she decide to give up on me, right after I’ve finally started to like her, to fall in love with her?’

’If this happens... what am I supposed to do now?’

But Amelia’s next words shattered him completely. "If I, Amelia Avery, ever bother Cassian Jennings again from this day on, may I be struck by lightning and die a horrible death!"

After she spoke, Amelia shoved the stunned Cassian out and slammed the door shut hard.

Hearing the door slam shut, Cassian’s entire body gave a violent shudder.

He snapped back to reality and began to pound on the door, his voice fraught with anxiety. "Amelia, it’s not supposed to be like this! It shouldn’t be like this!" He had no idea what to say to express the agony and conflict tearing him apart.

Amelia slid down the length of the door until she was squatting on the floor, tears streaming uncontrollably down her cheeks. "Cassian, from now on, you won’t have to worry about me chasing away your new girlfriends. You won’t have to worry about running into me. You won’t have to hide from me anymore. Cassian... from this day forward, you can finally relax. You’re free."

"Amelia, listen to me! I really do want to be with you now! You can’t do this to me!" Cassian yelled, pounding on the door, on the verge of breaking down.

Inside the room, Amelia’s expression faltered for a moment when she heard Cassian’s words. Then, she let out a self-mocking laugh. "Cassian, if you’re doing this out of pity, you’ve got it all wrong. I, Amelia Avery, don’t need anyone’s pity." At that moment, all her past obsession seemed less pitiful and more detestable.

’She knew Cassian hated her, knew just how much he despised her. So she truly understood now that she had been wrong. She really, truly understood...’

Seeing Cassian still pounding on the door, refusing to give up, Aiden strode over and dragged him away from the entrance.

"You heard her. Amelia has given up on you. So, Cassian, it’s over between you."

Cassian looked at Aiden as if he were a lifeline. He gripped Aiden’s arm tightly, his voice urgent. "Aiden, please, help me talk to her. You know it’s true, I really want to be with Amelia now. I really do love her..."
