Chapter 198: Crow
"Cindi, I need you to trust me."
In the doctor’s room, after going for a few checkups, they had told Ray to stay for a few hours before leaving. Cindi joined him to spend time.
Something had irritated Ray after his spar. His soul didn’t belong to a human; no one knew he longer was a human; he himself didn’t know what he was. But someone else had a soul that didn’t belong to a human either.
He had weird feelings about something inside Cindi for so long; he doubted anything would be wrong with her. After all, she was the daughter of the strongest person on Mars.
Seeing the serious look on Ray’s face, Cindi said, "What is it?"
"Can I see your spear? The one you had originally?"
Cindi handed him the yellow spear; inside, yellow flames roared, with the symbol of the Starblaze Squad on its tip, a star cut in half.
Going through the weapon’s structure Ray could sense it; it was very well hidden. In the depths of it, a piece of the soul of something that was not human. "A weapon is only made out of magic and material and thoughts... Why would a soul be here?"
"Ray... What is going on? My weapon wants to burn you to ashes..."
"Tell your mother to meet me at the ninth entrance; the rest of you be on guard at Evelyn’s base..."
"Ray..."
"We don’t have time."
Ray picked up the weapon; upon seeing it, the piece of soul started to spread inside the weapon. Pouring his soul inside that thing, he slowed it, but it couldn’t keep it forever.
In a blink, Ray was inside the hurricane; doing it inside a city could cause the whole city to be destroyed.
Someone from the darkness is looking at you.
His heart stopped beating; the only thing that caused a massage like that was fear and hunger and the parasite....
Having the most idiotic choice of all time, Ray gazed back at the creature. His eyesight traveled to the ground, only darkness and more darkness, but he knew he was still on the move.
As he stopped, it was so dark he couldn’t see anything; turning around, there was nothing to be seen, only a sea of darkness.
A hand gripped his neck, and with a head of crow staring at him, yellow eyes wanted to devour his soul.
Ray returned to his body as fast as he could; his lungs could barely breathe. The spear in front of him started to change too; flames were replaced with darkness.
The skin of his throat started to rot. Like a virus, it spread to his chest. Before he could do anything, his devil magic took over his body; the two forces clashed inside his body.
Being helpless, Ray didn’t know devil magic could take control, but at that moment he was grateful. In a minute no sign of infection remained; all of it was eaten by fear and hunger’s magic.
Crimson Star’s nova was unleashed on the spear, but even a scratch didn’t appear on it.
A pair of hands emerged from the spear, and with more organs, one by one, it took the form of a human made out of darkness.
Its hand swung in the air; darkness took over the hurricane. All of Ray’s senses stopped working; in an endless void of darkness, Ray started to run.
A pair of hands gripped his wings in the sky, darkness swallowed his magic, and a blade cut the wing. Before he could run again, a hand took his wrist; darkness spread on his flesh. He didn’t feel pain; they vanished like they never existed to begin with.
"Took you long enough..."
A beam of flames burst through the darkness, burning the creature in flames.
Before she came to his sight, her anger filled the void around them.
"You smell like him..." A human’s voice came out of the creature, "In his last moments he begged me to keep away from his family. " The creature laughed.
A laugh that caused that caused Ray’s spine to shiver from uneasiness.
Another beam of flames penetrated the creature’s chest, followed by thousands from all directions. The void lightened due to the flames.
Against her flames the creature couldn’t do anything; it laughed as it burned. The void disappeared, but the attacks continued. The creature was long dead.
Ray didn’t stay safe from the attacks either; most of his skin burned to the extent that his bones were visible and nothing had remained from his hand.
A spear’s tip shone on his neck. "Are you connected to it?"
"Mom... What is going on?"
Hearing the words, Ray had understood what had happened. Cindi told him that whatever killed his dad returned his head on his spear. Probably Cindi had taken his weapon as a memory, but no one had understood that a piece of murder was inside it all along.
"Cindi..."
"It was the same thing, wasn’t it?" Cindi’s broke; with a trembling body, she fell on her knees. "To his last breath, Dad wanted to protect us."
The older woman hugged her daughter, letting her cry in her arms.
Green flames started to heal Ray’s wound, but even they couldn’t heal his lost hand.
"Remember my promise?" Ray stood up; everything had happened too fast for him to digest. "I would kill that thing and will bring its head for you."
"..."
His mother helped her stand up. "I didn’t want you to see it." She cleaned her tears out of her face. "You have to stay strong for him. Now, I want you to go to Evelyn and tell her to gather all the immortals on Mars. You are my strong daughter, right?"
"I ... Will."
After Cindi left, the Red Queen turned to face Ray. "Now, you and I need to have a long conversation."
Ray nodded; if pieces of its soul were scattered around the surface, a catastrophic disaster could happen at any given moment. "I have lost my arm forever?"
"Yes."
