Chapter 187: Base of pink vendor

"So this is your new house."

After reaching the base, Cindi had left for her works again, and the pink-haired vice leader had taken her place.

There were a total of 21 towers built in the base with a population of nearly one hundred million. Every tower had its own functions; in whole, the base acted like a small city.

The main tower’s purpose was as inventory for all the harvesters in the other towers. Being near 300 meters above ground, Ray could see kilometers’ worth of crystal farms beneath the base.

Ray looked at the room that she had given to him; its design was like the rest of the tower, iron walls with the light bubbles that produced oxygen. The only good thing about his room was the glass wall that gave a perfect view of the red planet. In far red mist roamed around the planet, blocking his view of the other parts.

"Thanks." Ray noticed that there was nothing in the room, not even a single chair. "Where can I buy some stuff?"

The shorter woman leaned in. "From me, of course. I would like to send you the properties that you can buy, but first you have to buy a phone so..."

"What is the currency used in here?"

"Anything, dollars, coins, crystals."

Ray had over twelve million dark crystals in total. Cindi had taken back all the crystals he had given to Marian and Alexanderia; after thinking for a bit, he gave one million of them to Evelyn, "Just some stuff for the room and food. Plus the information you are going to give."

With a snap of her finger, everything that Ray needed teleported into the room: a large bed and a table with four seats. The rest were simple decorations and some clothing.

"Inflation really holds in this place." Ray really didn’t care where he slept; just having a place to stay at times was not bad.

"The rent of this room is one million dark crystals each month. Since you are Cindi’s guest, you are free of charge from that.

"Can I live in downtime and rent this place myself?"

Evelyn giggled, "No."

Ray sat on the bed; after a week his body was sore, craving a hot shower and a good night’s sleep. "So anything I should know?"

"The social structure is just like Earth; if you have money, you get good services, way better than Earth. For example, I have a red district in one of the towers if you are interested."

Ray stared at her with no emotion. "I have no interest in prostitutes. What do newcomers usually do?"

Evelyn dragged a chair and sat in front of him; with an oversized dress, no part of her body was visible. Ray had never hated a piece of fabric to this extent.

"Work for me in guarding the base; with a good income and some savings, you can buy a piece of crystal farm for yourself in thirty years or so." She licked her finger. "It’s a good offer if you think about it; the monsters that attack crystal farms are usually easy to kill for an immortal."

He ignored the job offer; his intentions were elsewhere from the beginning. "Where is the nearest tunnel to the second layer?"

"There is one in the south which is controlled by our squad; if you have the entrance fee, you can go anytime."

Seeing the wicked smile, Ray knew the entrance fee was behind what he could afford. "Any other option?"

Her finger pointed at the red mist in the north. "In the center of that hurricane should be one too, but it had a protector; last time I visited it, its level was 18."

"Guess I have to pay for you to tell me its features."

"I think we can get along."

Ray needed lots of resources; first he wanted to build a crafting station. He had a few ideas with the help of pure magic, and then there was his harem. The woman in front of him probably had unimaginable wealth; if Ray wanted to have her, it was too soon.

"In three months the flood season will begin, and monsters from the second layer will come to the first layer; hunting them down can get you crystals. Cindi will come to our base too."

Ray thought for a second. "I will participate if I have the time. How about teleporting?"

"If you conquer a land, you can teleport in it; the only place you own right now is this room. Temporarily, any other place you have to move on your own." She took out her phone. "When are you going to go into the hurricane? If I calculate everything that you need, a good shield and food, each day will cost you around 100000 dark crystals."

Ray lay on the bed, closing his eyes, and replied, "I will go tonight, and I won’t need anything."

"The last person that did that came back running after one day; he was four levels higher than you, by the way."

"Will see."

Seeing the silent man, Evelyn teleported out.

After a few hours of sleep, Ray opened his eyes again. "Right time for the sun to set." Checking the hurricane again, nothing about it had changed since morning.

A phone only made of glass was on the table; picking it up, Ray browsed through apps. Not checking the balance he had, he ordered the most expensive food on the list and went for a shower.

As hot water washed away his tiredness, Ray’s mind awakened more. "Right now, in this new planet, I’m the weakest one. People have been here for thousands of years; if I want to compete with them, ordinary ways are not going to work!"

Back in the room, the food was on his table without him noticing anyone coming in. "Maybe they teleported it..." Not being able to teleport was the biggest downgrade; it reduced his speed in all aspects. And with the prices that Evelyn said, he was not going to buy bases very soon.

"Let’s see what this planet has in store for me."
