Chapter 233: Chapter 233: Niflheim

A ship sailed through an ocean covered in thick fog. The water below the ship was dark and still.

Eerily so, the vessel was nearly a kilometre long made from pitch black wood, it was as cold as metal.

Inside this vessel were thousands of people from different races bound by thick enchanted chains that sealed esper.

Amongst them were three people, two women and a man. " Well, that didn’t go so well." Maleficent commented.

Meggie sighed, " It never was, Adrian was right, that entire trial was just a farce, the verdict had been decided before we even got there."

" So where exactly are they taking us?" Adrian asked the two older women. His expression was calm as if he wasn’t just imprisoned.

" You’re awfully calm." Meggie smiled gently at him. " They’re taking us to the largest prison they have, the wilderness."

He raised his eyebrow, " The wilderness? I thought that place was accessible to anybody."

" There are different wildernesses, the one they’re taking is to is not so easily accessible.

Do you know what the wildernesses actually are?" Meggie asked.

He shook his head, Meggie explained patiently.

" They are realms, just like the human world and the realm beyond the mist whose actual name is Alguard.

In the past there were nine realms connected to each other by gates called bifrosts.

While that might sound grand it’s anything but, they were just holes in space-time like the ones leading to the human world.

These nine realms were known as the high realms, each born in the era of creation, each realm was ruled by a powerful race.

While there were other realms like the human world, they were too small and weak to be considered.

Mostly used as the backyards of some powerful person or clan. That era was incredibly prosperous.

The old races like the elves and giants ruled the realms, above them were divine races like dragons and phoenix.

There were also Gadra, due to the density of ambient esper, the Gadra of that era were beyond powerful.

Those are the ones known as the ancient races today. Anyways, at some point in history that era came to an end.

Nobody truly knows what happened but legends say an evil god descended from beyond the realms.

Multiple realms and ancient races were destroyed leaving behind only two realms, Alguard and Midguard.

After that was the old era, this is when humans started rising, their rise was slow and unexpected.

It started with two humans, the first of their kind to wield esper without borrowing it from a higher lifeform, the first ever Espara.

With the rise of those two, more Espara came to be and before long the humans started pushing back against those they once called monsters.

After them came the great mother, the first ever witch, it wasn’t long after the rise of witches that the old era ended.

The calamity back then did not compare to that of the ancient era but Midguard fell back then.

Leaving only this realm, Alguard as the last bastion of all races, these eight other realms thus became the wildernesses.

The one they’re taking us to is probably Niflheim, it used to the realm of phoenix before they went instinct."

" Can you tell me more about the other realms?" He asked and just as Meggie was about to, the ship came to a stop.

" I’m sorry, it seems we don’t have time, I promise I’ll tell you all about it later." Meggie sounded excited.

A Minotaur wielding a large axe came in huffing. " Up you go." It growled in a deep voice dragging them by the chain.

They went out of the ship and as soon as they got out the temperature dropped instantly.

The ship was already cold reaching temperatures of - 10 degrees Celsius but this place was worse, much worse.

Meggie looked at him and smiled bitterly, " Welcome to Niflheim." She whispered to him.

" I thought you said this was the realm of phoenix, why the hell is it so cold?"

Maleficent giggled and answered instead of Meggie. " Oh it wasn’t always like this, according to legends.

This realm used to be extremely hot with a flaming tree at its centre, it only turned like this after its destruction."

He nodded, " I guess that makes sense." Suddenly multiple guards from different races approached them.

They removed the chains from him and threw him out of the ship. There were still cuffs around his wrists and ankles sealing his esper.

Meggie grew anxious when she saw this, she couldn’t wait to go down there, she wasn’t comfortable with him not being close to her.

However much to her horror, the ship started sailing back with half of them including her and Maleficent.

Magnificent sighed when she realised the intentions of the high council. Meggie started pacing around.

" What are doing, let me off this damned ship!" She shouted and struggled to no avail.

The cold winds effected her throat but she didn’t care, she tried to jump off but was dragged back.

She watched Adrian stand up and look at her but his eyes were calm as everything was within his control.

" I’LL COME BACK FOR YOU, JUST WAIT FOR ME OKAY, I’LL COME BACK I SWEAR!"

He heard Meggie’s voice piercing through the cold winds, seeing her panicked expression he grew touched.

But at the same time he got the feeling this place had more dangers than just the piercing cold winds.

Back in the ship, Meggie sat down and buried her head in her knees. Then she raised her head and looked at the guards.

Her eyes were colder than the cold piercing winds, " If anything happens to him, I swear upon my name as the daughter of Nimue.

I will torture your souls for all eternity." Her cold voice made the guards shiver, they knew Morgana.

They knew she was telling the truth, she has done much much worse for her child, torturing them would be nothing in comparison.

They all wondered if they should personally make sure nothing happens to Adrian or perhaps kill Morgana while her power was sealed.

However they didn’t have the authority to kill anybody except in self defense or they would be the ones in these chains.

Adrian watched the ship disappear beyond the mist then turned his attention to his surroundings.

He flexed his arms a little, " As I had expected, these things can’t lock my esper, they’re not designed to deal with primordial levels of purity."

Notice: There will be a huge time skip soon, don’t be surprised, it will be huge.

Also, to Norse Mythology fans, the realms aren’t accurate to those in the Myths, please don’t chew my head off.

Also, don’t expect Odin or Thor to appear, this is not about Norse Gods, I REPEAT, IT’S NOT ABOUT NORSE GODS
