Chapter 876: The Second Shot!
The moment Leviathan released its beams, a beautiful darkness overwhelmed the skies, creating illusory lights that lit the sky. Radiant bursts of purple and black flashed as Asmodeus and his Demon Knights did their best to deflect the destruction.
"Shit!"
Asmodeus cleaved the sky with a violent arc, Axiom rending and deflecting several of the radiant beams as he hovered in front of the two mega weapons, desperate to keep them unharmed.
’This thing....’
His eyes traced the molten surface of the cliff; dozens of lives vanished with the first barrage, and then... once it broke through the barriers, it tore chunks from the defensive fixtures and the cliff’s face itself.
"Asmodeus!" Velvet hovered a few metres away, her beautiful dragonscale wings flapping in the storm skies. "It’s too dangerous; we can’t just rely on these weapons!"
"You..."
He could see it in her eyes; Velvet wanted to fight.
She wanted to attack Leviathan head-on; despite the size difference, he could almost hear the violent pounding of her dragon heart.
"Are we doing it or not?" She smirked, raising her pretty red lips and slightly twisting the scales on her cheeks.
’How can I refuse when you look like that...?’ He thought.
Before the monster could charge another barrage, he also thought an attack from himself might help.
Since Velvet offered.
"Who else is coming?"
Her eyes shone with a bright lavender flame the moment he asked. However, she didn’t reply to him at first and flung herself towards him instead. She grabbed him tightly in her embrace. He could feel the softness of her breasts changing shape and swallowed the saliva in the back of his throat.
’Her breasts are as amazing as always...’
Their firm, squishy shape deformed against his chest as she clung tightly.
"I’ll bring everyone, Levia~ Vinea~ Erika~ and even Ciela."
Velvet’s voice rang through the storm, almost playful despite the chaos tearing apart the coastline.
The next moment, two shadows pierced the clouds.
The first was Levia, her dark hair whipping across her face as dark lightning coiled around her slender arms before gathering around her shield. Vinea followed close behind, her wings spread wide with their molten surface hissing with intense heat against the rain. In her hands, Balmung vibrated with a continuous hum.
She looked toward Leviathan and narrowed her eyes.
"That thing is uglier up close, but hey~ honey, why are you playing favourites? You like mine too, right?"
Vinea leaned forward, and her deep, glossy copper breasts peeked from the gap.
Asmodeus couldn’t help but glance at them for several seconds; his chest beat faster as the faint pink of her nipples peeked from beneath the metal.
’Damn... this isn’t the time to get horny.’
"Of course I like yours too."
Vinea’s smile became bright enough to match the molten glow rolling along her horns. She rushed past Asmodeus and clung tightly to his opposite arm, glancing from his chest to Velvet before snorting.
"Good answer—maybe I’ll reward you after this is over."
Velvet clicked her tongue beside him.
"Flirting in the middle of Leviathan’s barrage. Really?"
"You started it," Asmodeus answered.
"Tch!" Velvet clicked her tongue before pulling away from his body. Her wings flapped slowly, creating a comfortable breeze across Asmodeus’s face. "Let’s prepare to attack—that thing doesn’t seem able to shoot those huge barrages in rapid succession."
Levia lifted her shield before a stray beam struck.
Dark lightning crawled across its surface, twisting into a circular barrier that caught three radiant lances at once. The impact pushed her back several metres through the rain, but her wings snapped open, helping steady herself.
"Less flirting!" Levia shouted, pointing at the massive Kraken Slayer. "Let’s hurry and get ready—that huge weapon is going to fire!"
"Oi! Wait for us!" A voice came from above.
Two women with beautiful wings descended rapidly towards the group. Erika led the charge, her blades slicing through the air before twirling several times, her leather armour tightly bound to her body, avoiding any mishaps.
Ciela, behind her, remained elegant, her long brown ears bouncing as she flew calmly towards them, holding her massive longbow.
The moment they arrived, Leviathan’s countless eyes shifted again.
However, as mentioned before, they couldn’t quite gather as much energy, seemingly struggling to amass the required power for a mass barrage. Asmodeus felt the change immediately.
"Don’t you think the eyes are gathering towards us, rather than the walls or the weapon?"
Velvet’s smile beside his face grew wider, "Aha... is it that kind of enemy?"
Erika’s blonde hair bounced wildly as she leaned back, "Well, to think this bastard called Leviathan acts like the little paladin in our group. Obsessive, and constantly seeking attention from our dear husband."
"Ack!?" Levia gasped and glared at Erika.
"Fufu, true... she’s just like this beast," Ciela added to the fire.
"HOW?!"
Below them, Logan’s voice broke through their little bickering.
"Second Kraken Slayer, loading chamber open! Move the harpoon! Move it faster!"
The engineers dragged the modified harpoon toward the weapon with chains and pulleys, their boots sliding against the rain-slick wall. Several Demon Knights formed around them with shields raised, while Brando shouted orders from the battlement below.
"Defence line around the Slayers! Nobody retreats unless the weapon breaks!"
A beam slipped between two Valkyries and shot toward the loading crew.
"Tch... they seem to be taking this lightly," Ciela said as she shot towards the beam, her graceful wings resembling a fairy rather than a demon.
Her body turned midair, wings folding as she dropped like a blade. She struck the beam from the side, knocking it off course just enough for it to carve through an empty section of stone instead of the engineers.
The explosion threw several men off their feet.
Brando caught one by the collar and shoved him back toward the cannon.
"Stand up! Load it!"
Erika appeared beside the second beam, her weapon flashing through the rain. She didn’t stop the attack directly. Instead, she cut across its path at an angle, forcing the beam to bend enough to strike the cliff face below the wall.
Stone melted.
Steam and smoke exploded upward.
Asmodeus raised Axiom and cleaved through another cluster of beams before they could reach the Kraken Slayers. Each impact numbed his arms.
’This strength is enough to vaporise anyone not strong enough..."
"Prepare yourselves—it seems about to fire the third barrage!"
Vinea flew past him with Balmung raised.
"Move, honey!"
Asmodeus tilted his wings.
Vinea slashed downward.
Balmung’s holy edge burst with demonic fire, sending a molten crescent through the storm. The attack struck a wide spread of beams and detonated in midair, scattering black fragments across the sky like burning glass.
Drops of molten rain fell toward the harbour, hissing when they touched the black water below.
"Tch, I guess I should help then..."
Levia complained as she raised her shield, creating a massive illusory aegis in the air that deflected and absorbed the debris and beams the others managed to deflect or knock off course.
"Ngh...!"
Velvet roared and launched herself forward.
Her dragonscale wings spread wide, and a lavender flame gathered in her throat before bursting out in a violent stream. The fire didn’t aim directly at Leviathan. It swept across the sky, devouring the next wave of beams before they could descend on the weapon line.
For a moment, the sky cleared.
"Whoa... do you have indigestion?"
"Hah?! Do you want me to punch you, Erika?"
"Eheheh~"
Asmodeus’s expression darkened.
"Stop playing around; we need to counterattack and wipe out most of the eyes in our attack, or we’ll be whittled down to death."
After his shout, the entire wall shook, and metal screeched.
It was the Kraken Slayer!
’Hm?’
Various coloured lights flashed across the support shaft, unstable at first, then brighter as the mana rings turned one after another. The modified harpoon slid into place, its carved channels pulsing faintly with the purification energy stored inside.
Logan grabbed the side of the control panel.
"Don’t let anything hit the chamber! If the shell cracks before launch, the whole weapon could misfire!"
"Wonderful!" Brando roared. "Everyone heard that? Don’t let the death beam touch the unstable miracle bomb!"
Asmodeus almost laughed.
Then Leviathan fired again.
This barrage was denser.
It no longer looked like scattered beams.
It looked like the night itself had grown countless purple-black needles and thrown them at the coast.
"Protect the Slayers!" Asmodeus shouted.
Everyone moved at once.
Velvet burned a path through the centre. Levia held the shield net over the weapon. Vinea smashed apart anything that broke too close with molten arcs from Balmung. Erika and Ciela swept through the gaps, knocking beams off course by the smallest margins.
Asmodeus took the rest until a sharp glint flashed in the corner of his eye.
Before he could even think, Axiom became a blur in his hands.
He cut upward.
Sideways.
Down.
Again.
Again.
Again.
Each swing erased dozens, sometimes hundreds, yet thousands slipped past. Beams struck the wall, punched through towers, tore open the cliff and vaporised sections of the dock below. Screams vanished beneath the storm and explosions.
A radiant lance aimed directly for the second Kraken Slayer’s barrel.
Asmodeus folded his wings and dropped.
He reached it first.
Axiom met the beam head-on.
The impact drove him backwards into the cannon frame, his boots grinding across the wet stone as heat burned through his arms and shoulders. The weapon shook behind him, runes flickering wildly.
"Logan!"
The old dwarf looked up from the control panel, soaked, terrified and furious.
"Ten seconds!"
"You have five!"
"I hate all of you!"
The second Kraken Slayer’s light climbed higher, gathering at the tip of the modified harpoon.
Leviathan’s eyes opened wider, preparing another impossible storm.
Asmodeus lifted Axiom with both hands and flew back into the sky, placing himself between the beast and the weapon once more.
"Then make those five count."
