Chapter 445: Saying Goodbye (2-Last)
After talking with Raven and asking her to look out for Liza, Khal’s next visit was to Darla whose residence just like his, was located in the Core Court so he didn’t really have to walk far away.
"...Huh? Who?" in a casual but loose dress that seemed that Darla only wore when she was alone at home, Darla opened the door for Khal only to freeze up as if she saw a ghost.
"Not gonna lie, you look pretty cute in a loose dress." Khal showed a teasing smile, to which Darla’s whole expression turned ripe red, and quickly slammed the door shut.
"Give me a minute!" was the only thing Darla said from behind the closed door before she hurried away from the entrance with steps that even from outs one could clearly hear.
Khal just shook his head helplessly and couldn’t help but grin like a fool. Indeed, the way Darla looked a moment ago was incredibly cute which only became even more charming with her flustered and beautiful face.
Khal waited outside for half an hour straight and he was almost on the verge of standing up and going away, coming back later, but just as he was about to do so the door behind him finally opened.
"Where do you think you are going?"
"Huh? I have waited half an hour despite you saying just a minute, so thinking you will never come I wanted to come back later." Khal replied with a casual shrug.
Darla’s small lips parted as she wished to say something to refute Khal’s words or at least find an excuse, but even after a minute or two, she couldn’t bring herself to speak. Like, should she admit that the reason why she did not appear sooner despite finishing her preparations just under five minutes was that she felt immensely ashamed and embarrassed? Not really, right?
Hence, as he didn’t want to tell the truth nor could she come up with a proper excuse, Darla just remained silent and started with a cold expression at Khal.
’Whatever...’ Khal sighed in his heart as he had a rough guess what Darla’s current thoughts were, but as he didn’t really care if she will tell it or not she waved her hand and summoned a small object into his hand.
"Huh? What is this?" Darla’s eyes flashed with curiosity when she saw how a little blue egg about the size of a human fist appeared out of thin air atop Khal’s palm, even exuding a cold frost-like aura that drastically decreased the temperature in the proximity.
"This is an egg from a Mutated Ice Bear Beast I have gotten as a gift a few weeks ago. However, as I am not good at taking care of pets much fewer beasts, I will give this to you. Consider it as my farewell gift before I ascend."
Darla took the small egg away from Khal’s hand, but instead of feeling shocked when hearing the words Mutated Ice Bear, as that was an insanely powerful beast that could compete with Ascenders when fully matured, she felt startled to hear Khal indeed was ascending.
Just like how Raven knew it, she too heard the rumors of him wanting to ascend shortly.
"You..." Darla clenched her little pearly teeth firmly together and in a low voice she asked, "Can’t you wait a little bit longer?"
"Hm? Did you say something?" Khal raised a hand next to his ear when hearing Darla mumbling, looking at her with a slight frown.
"I said... Nothing!" Darla said with a slightly angered face and without waiting for Khal to speak turned around and walked back into her house.
Khal seeing this lowered his hand and shook his head helplessly. Of course, he heard clearly what Darla said, but still decided to act like a fool to avoid unnecessarily chit-chat.
As for Darla’s reaction, Khal didn’t give it a second thought as he knew that is just who Darla was. Cold on the surface which if broken can result in her getting flustered quite easily for no specific reasons.
For instance, there was once a moment when he sparred with her on the sect’s practice grounds when he had nothing to do, and she became flustered just because his face got too close to hers!
Thinking about this, Khal couldn’t help but shake his head helplessly and walk away, this time meeting Senior Lin, Hao Yu, and the Elders to thank the help they have given to him during the short amount of time he was a part of the sect.
"Just make sure you stay alive and try not to offend too many individuals, okay?" Senior Lin said with a serious expression as she accepted the Jade World token from Khal. She no longer was shocked to hear that he constructed an entire defensive mechanic around and inside the sect, but simply acknowledged it.
"I will try, but I can’t promise it." Khal showed an awkward smile and after exchanging a few words with the other Elders and especially with Hao Yu, Khal walked away and not long stood before a small building that was located in the Outer Court.
’So this is where Liza is living?’ Khal thought and closed his eyes. Even without using any special technique, he could feel Liza was inside there, cultivating.
"I guess I won’t trouble her then," Khal muttered and quickly took out a piece of paper and a pencil from his spatial ring before writing.
[Your writing is pretty ugly. Wonder if she will be able to read it. Would be sad if you leave a letter behind only for her to send it to some researchers to figure out what you have tried to write.]
’I swear lately you really have become annoying as hell. I wonder if the bracelet has a mute button or some sort.’ Khal thought in his heart and once he finished writing he placed the paper at the bottom of the door and pushed it through the thin gap.
"Done." Khal sighed gently and after gazing at the sole window above his head he sighed once again and walked away with steady steps.
