Chapter 427: The Bracelet’s Origin? (1)
When Khal saw how the old lady was pointing at his bracelet with her bony finger and how she stared at it like a hungry beast, his mind went blank and cold sweat uncontrollably began to ooze out of his body.
What was his bracelet? Khal understood way too well that his bracelet was an ancient artifact that could allow anyone that held it in their possession to acquire numerous abilities, several that were so powerful that not even armies stood a chance!
Furthermore, to make things even worse, the bracelet had a unique feature that could not only turn the consumed Beast Essence into Body Essence without any aftereffect, but it could even double that amount too! This was such a power that even those without any Blessing or Martial technique could dominate other races and entire battles with their sole presence alone!
Hence, when he understood the old lady knew about this artifact of his and even eyed it with eyes full of greed, Khal couldn’t help but for the first time in a long while really get nervous. Naturally, he didn’t let it show on his face, but the way how his skin color turned slightly pale, it was pretty much apparent how he was currently feeling.
Also, his fear only grew a level deeper when he realized his bracelet couldn’t be taken down from his hand just if he either died or his arm was cut off!
Subconsciously, Khal pulled his hand back closer to his body and raised his guard. Though, considering that the old lady had a presence pretty much similar to Hale’s, his act could be said to be rather useless.
The old lady showed another smile, but this time a cunning one which looked like the smile of a fox, but surprisingly, that was the only thing she did. She just kept smiling without doing anything.
"I know what you are thinking," remaining silent for several minutes, that in truth felt like saying, the old lady leaned back and continued, "But don’t worry. I have no plan on killing you to acquire that thing. Or at least not yet."
’Not yet...’ those two words were enough for Khal’s face to pale even more and feel his legs going weak. Right now, if he would have been standing it was quite possible he would have fallen to the ground as that statement for him was pretty much like a death sentence!
After taking a moment to digest the piece of information that in the future he will be hunted down by a being that was equal to those in the Sixth Realm, Khal calmed himself down and asked, "Why don’t you just kill me now? Wouldn’t it be more logical for you to kill me right now when I am still weak? Are you not scared you will lose an opportunity like this?"
"Me? Scared?" the old lady suddenly laughed which strangely sounded pretty young, and quickly said, "I am not scared nor would I be if that man would be standing next to me right at this moment."
"Are you sure about that?"
"Eh?" suddenly, the smile froze onto the old lady’s face while her laugh stuck in her throat.
"Hale!" Khal’s expression lightened in a flash when he saw that Hale from some point in time appeared behind the old lady, his face at the moment holding a rather cold and bloodthirsty look.
Khal could literally feel the dense killing intent in the whole room, making him wonder just how Senior Lin and the other Elders didn’t come to check what was happening.
"She put an invisible but powerful barrier around the walls of this building, so even if you create a black hole and destroy everything no one would notice a thing just if they see it with their very own eyes." Hale explained, but his eyes quickly narrowed and said, "Though, she constructed that barrier to hide from me. Too bad, it didn’t work."
"I-" the old lady fell off her chair when she felt Hale’s killing intent on her body, feeling as if she suddenly became a little puppy in the face of a fierce lion.
"Where did your previous confidence go? Didn’t you say you would not be scared even if I would appear in front of you?" approaching the old lady with a sharp and ice-cold gaze, Hale stared with narrowed eyes at the old lady who struggled to get as far away from him as possible but strangely whenever she pushed her body away she was sucked back toward Hale again!
It was almost as if Hale became a magnet, not letting her go more than a meter!
"H-How did you find me?" giving up struggling against Hale’s mysterious power, the old lady looked straight into Hale’s eyes and asked in a trembling voice.
However, Hale didn’t wish to answer and when he was only an inch away from the old lady’s feet he stopped, and asked, "Say, Zinnia... Did you really live so long that now you became tired of life?"
"N-No! I just-"
"Just?" Hale raised a brow with his body still emitting a thick killing intent and asked, "Didn’t we have a deal?"
"W-We did..."
"Then why are you here, roaming not only the Second Realm but even the First Realm too?"
"That..." the old lady wished to answer, but unfortunately, no matter how long she kept her mouth open no voice came out of it, thus could do nothing but close it and remain silent.
Hale, upon seeing this narrowed his eyes and mumbled, "Perhaps I should kill you right here and now?"
"N-NO! Please don’t! I admit I have done a huge mistake! Let me correct it! Please!" raising both her hands when she saw how Hale was ready to swing his arm, the old lady pleaded and quickly kowtowed.
Looking down at the trembling old woman Hale halted his hand in mid-air and as if coming to a decision gave a sideways glance at Khal, "What do you say? Should I take her life or not?"
The question was simple, yet, the moment Khal heard it his eyes widened and with a dumbfounded look stared at Hale as if he was looking at a lunatic of some sort.
"...Huh? Did you just say... That I should decide?"
