Chapter 210: Where The Sky Meets The Sea

[FROLO]

When she had gotten that call from Sergei, she didn’t know what to expect because, honestly, the last time they had had a chat with Sergei was after the auction, and that was a conversation that had traumatized the big bad devil of Frolo.

So much so that Svet and Andre were sure the madman would never call them.

Yet he had.

He had reached out today.

"They all lied to me," Katya sobbed, still.

And frankly, they understood.

The confession before Svet turned off the TV was chilling. It was the vilest and cruelest of admissions in all of medicine, especially in Frolo. Much less in the way that things had happened.

"We would like to formally extend our apologies to Mr. Katya Romanov for messing with... for lying to him that he was barren. We were paid handsomely to interfere with his pregnancies and ensure that none of them survived long enough to properly develop.

"Mr. Romanov is in perfect condition to bear a child. Has always been. We apologize for letting ourselves be bought into manipulating his medical records and making him doubt himself.

"We also apologize for the years of hate he faced for not being able to produce an heir for the Moskowsky household.

"We also apologize for every pregnancy we destroyed, for every child we stole from him before they could even properly develop, and for the anniversary miscarriage that left him in the hospital for weeks.

"We were only told that none of the children were ever meant to survive. We were greedy, and we apologize for everything we took from him," the medics had confessed.

And Katya...

"They... they took my children away," Katya mourned helplessly as another sound hit the office.

The private elevator dinged a second time while Svet stood unsure of what to say or do to her friend.

She wanted to comfort him; it was only rational, but she was angry. Gods, she was so angry that she had to remind herself that this was not the time and place. That Katya was the greatest victim in all of this.

Especially with the truth he had kept hidden for two years out there in the open, and all that because someone had manipulated his entire life.

"Michka," Masha Romanova said as she rushed to her son, pulling him from Anya’s arms gently like her baby was the most delicate of things.

Katya didn’t fight. Didn’t try to hold on.

Anya simply helped him up and into his mother’s arms before she walked to Sergei’s office, her anger something that matched the faces of everyone on the executive floor.

"Come with me," Anya said as she looked at Svet and Andre. It was not even a command or demand. It was just what the space needed, especially now that Katya was here with his mother.

Svet and Andre followed Anya into Sergei’s office, with Rahim and Volkov waiting for them inside. It was a silent wait, one that no one knew how to explain just yet. Because this was crazy.

"Mama... Th... they took my children," Katya’s sobs filled the once quiet office again, his voice breaking the hearts of six men and women on the executive floor. It was a pain that no one could understand, really.

Perhaps that was why they moved into Sergei’s inner office, a door that opened when Sergei heard more footsteps headed inside.

And they sat there in silence.

No one was saying anything save for the haunting cries of a man who had just realized his entire marriage was a lie. That the last five years had been orchestrated and manipulated to the core.

That he had been made to believe he was not something when, in truth, someone had been sabotaging him. The way the medical personnel had confessed was really something else, and there was never going to be a redemption for them.

Not anywhere this time.

"It hurts, mama," Katya whimpered, his voice sore already as he struggled to understand what had been done to him.

For five years, he had been ridiculed by the Frolo society for never being enough. Mocked for not being the worthy son-in-law, laughed at for never being the man that the Moskowskys needed.

And for five years, he had endured it all.

A cheating husband.

An unforgiving society.

Now he was learning that it was never his fault in the first place. That someone had managed to fuck him over in the worst of ways. That someone had taken their time and chosen to sabotage every aspect of his marriage.

He had been replaced because he couldn’t even have a child.

And now...

The truth was staring at him with sharp eyes that he didn’t even know how to understand.

Oh, how it hurt.

Everything hurt more than the fact that now Frolo was learning about Katya’s miscarriage on his anniversary.

"Mama’s here now, my Michka," Masha consoled her son, even with her tears free-falling. Maybe because even she knew that there was nothing, absolutely nothing she could do to take away this particular pain for her son.

For years, she had wondered what it was that had happened to her son, and she had suspected because of her husband’s rage. But a confession on a livestream from the people Katya had trusted over the years?

That, too, from the people who had counselled Katya, who had talked to the omega and made it easy for him to try and mute out everyone who was gossiping about his inadequacies, was cruel.

The very people Katya had gone to seek help from had been the ones who had sabotaged his entire marriage.

Five years.

That was a really long time.

So Masha held her son close, not letting him go even once.

Not even when Katya had cried so much that he fell asleep in his mother’s arms.

Not even when his silent, defeated snores hit her ears because of how they were seated. But she held her son through it all. Because at the end of the day, Katya’s titles didn’t matter to her.

He would always be her baby.

Always.

The tension was thicker in Moskowsky Holdings than it had ever been.

And in Sergei’s office, the six men and women sat there, defeated and unable to take away the one thing that they didn’t understand fully.

They could fight, go to war, but at the end of the day, this was the kind of pain that was foreign to all of them.

"You did this," Andre said quietly, as he looked at Volkov and Rahim.

The secretaries looked nothing like secretaries anymore. They looked like hired muscle, and worse, they looked like the type of people the Moskowskys kept around them for security.

"They deserved it," Rahim sighed in defeat, her eyes focused on the door as if she were waiting for her boss to come and tell her that all was well.

But then everyone in this room and beyond knew that nothing would ever be well again. Not for a long time.

"All this time..." Svet said in disbelief, like it was still not making any real sense, yet at the same time, it made so much sense.

"The city owes him an unpayable debt. And I intend to collect on his behalf," was all Sergei said before they all fell into comfortable yet pained silence.

"Count us in," Andre added with silent conviction.
