Chapter 161: ’Cause Honey Your Soul Can Never Grow Old

[FROLO]

"I’m alive and here is proof of life," Katya spoke first as he turned the camera to himself, making his friends stare at him amusedly.

"As much as it is nice to see you this fine afternoon, I must say what you did was the most audacious thing ever. If you need our backing, we’ll be there in an instant," Svetlana spoke, and Andre chuckled.

"I didn’t think you’d do it, Romanov. But kudos, brother. Kudos," Andre added.

"Hold on... What did I do?" Katya asked so earnestly, his confusion something that made them stare at him mischievously.

"Ooh... so he’s going to pretend he doesn’t know what he did?" Svet teased.

"Maybe he wants us to bribe him with cookies," Andre added.

Katya stayed confused.

There wasn’t much he had done other than embarrass himself in front of his colleagues and wake up in the one place he never wanted to be in.

"Come on, guys... What happened? I mean, I do have a thing or two to tell you about my heat and my day, but clearly something is going on. How about you guys go first, and maybe I’ll give you gossip about the senator?" Katya offered.

The two friends looked at each other before they spoke the words that Katya never thought they’d hear.

Much less today of all the days.

"Congratulations on your divorce from your whore of a husband!"

"We are so proud of you, Romanov. Today’s dinner is on me. Tell the senator you have dinner plans, and he shouldn’t make any!" Svet said excitedly, and Katya froze.

The divorce.

The one thing that he’d only told two people.

Two.

Senator Aleksandr.

Sergei Moskowsky.

"Where did you hear that?" Katya asked his heart in his throat as he tried to think.

Yet there wasn’t much to think of.

Because the only possible option was that the senator told them. But the senator didn’t even know enough to share such news with his friend. And even worse, today the senator was busy dealing with the head delivered at his gate.

That left only one person.

That darn devil.

"It’s all over the news!" Andre said.

Svet stared at Katya like she could tell something was off.

"Why do you look so surprised by the news of your own divorce, Romanov?" Svet asked.

For a moment, Katya contemplated lying. But then he’d never really been a good liar, not when it came to his friends anyway.

So, he told them what had happened.

How his day began, and he somehow ended up falling unconscious in the office, only to wake up with Sergei a few feet away. He told them about the approval and how nonchalant the alpha had been.

And when he was done...

"You guys won’t even say anything after I ruined my own life with my boss?" Katya asked incredulously.

"You mean the boss you dream of during your heat?" Andre asked flatly.

"That is not the point. And my mind is a little shit hole working against me!" Katya defended.

"The man did give you freedom, though. Maybe he just thought you’d chicken out—" Svet said, only to be interrupted by Andre.

"Chicken out after eating chicken with the boss," Andre snickered.

"Not helping, Andre... But touché," Svet said with a slight laugh, making Katya glare at them both.

This was his funeral, they were dancing so gladly in.

Maybe he needed new friends.

"Guys, focus," Katya said, and they stared at him, mischievous smiles on their faces. But thankfully, it didn’t take long before they came back to the issue at hand.

"If you ask me, I’d say that barbarian is good at keeping his word. Doesn’t make him a good person, but it sure makes him decent enough for me to postpone killing him by a year," Svet shrugged, reminding him of her promise.

The promise to Katya that she was a ready weapon if ever Katya got tired of Sergei and the Moskowskys. Maybe it was a long shot, seeing as the man had never been bested, but there was always a chance at a trial, right?

Even so, what fun would it all be on this time?

"Great, so I’m doomed either way," Katya sighed exasperatedly.

"Senator Aleksandr won’t let you be hurt. You know that, right?" Andre reminded.

"He’s too good," Katya groaned, right before he heard a commotion outside.

"Sir, you can’t go in there!" Katya heard Rahim say right before the door opened, and through it came a very livid Yaroslav.

"Oh, it’s you," Katya said, not bothering to hang up the call.

"IT’S ME???" Yaroslav screeched in anger.

Katya just stared at him boredly.

He was not scared of Yaroslav.

Never had been.

"What do you want, Mr. Gamov?" Katya asked boredly, like he wasn’t in the mood to deal with all of this. He honestly couldn’t give a shit about what Yaroslavl wanted.

"Mr. Gamov??? What do you want, Mr. Gamov?? What the fuck, honey?" Yaro asked in rage, and Katya stared in disgust at the pet name.

That shit would have worked months ago.

Back when he was pining for Yaroslav’s affection.

Back when he was hopeless in his desire to be chosen by the one man who ever cared about his feelings.

Back when all he had was Yaroslav to free him for Sergei and the damn contract.

Yet even then, Yaroslav had not paid attention to him. Only ever focused on Milan, and now they had a baby too.

Maybe that was why the betrayal had Katya so disgusted, his heart was finally cold for this man.

"As you can see, I’m busy working. And you clearly don’t have an appointment. Please show yourself out," Katya said, going back to the folder he hadn’t even opened on his desk.

It was some of the things he’d approved last before he left for his heat leave, but now, he was just glad this shit was here for him to use as a distraction.

"First, you spend your heat with the damn senator. Then you come back wearing his clothes, and I have to learn about the divorce from the media?

"What the actual fuck is wrong with you, honey?!" Yaroslav said, insisting on the pet name, as if it was supposed to condition the omega into bowing to his whims.
