Chapter 162: Will Your Eyes Still Smile From Your Cheeks?
[FROLO]
"First, you spend your heat with the damn senator. Then you come back wearing his clothes, and I have to learn about the divorce from the media?
"What the actual fuck is wrong with you, honey?!" Yaroslav said, insisting on the pet name as if it were supposed to condition the omega into bowing to his whims.
Into being his always.
Into never thinking of a future without Yaroslav.
But that ship had sailed.
The omega had severed all the ties.
The trolls had ruined every ounce of faith Katya ever had in getting his marriage back. And the way Yaroslav had been so good at abandoning him had cemented the resolve to never let him again.
Back then, Katya had still been in love with the man.
But now, all he saw was a pathetic beta holding desperately to what would never be his again. And that, that was the one thing Katya refused to let him be.
He was not in Yaroslav’s home.
Not this time.
"You have no right to demand an explanation for what I do or don’t do with my boyfriend. You have a wife now, don’t you? Go back to her. Anyway, now that you are here. Perhaps sign the papers and get this over and done with?" Katya said nonchalantly.
Yaroslav banged the table before Katya, like that was supposed to scare him.
It should have.
Katya never liked violence.
He never appreciated being treated like shit.
He never wanted to be involved in anything that had blood spilling.
And honestly, he should have cowered in fear, seeing as Yaroslav had already made a dent in Katya’s desk with his fists.
"You’re mine. MINE. Katya. And I told you back then, but you don’t remember. Allow me to remind you of this. If you didn’t put an end to that sham relationship with the senator and get back to your diocese as any husband?
"... I will kill the senator. It’s just a matter of time now. Don’t test me. I’m a Moskowsky, I always get what I want," Yaroslav said before he walked out of the Katya office, frothing at the mouth with rage.
It was a sight that Katya had never seen before, and frankly it disliked him a little.
But then again, he was getting that divorce.
He wasn’t going to stand and wait for Yaroslav to come to his senses again. And Katya wasn’t property to be shoved around Moskowskys as they wished.
"Approve the bounty, Romanov. I’ll even start now," Svet’s voice came through the phone, reminding Katya that his friend may have heard the unpleasant exchange with the husband from hell.
"Guys, I have to go," Katya sighed, his hands shaky after that encounter. He had been so brave to hold his own, but now that the beta was gone, Katya did trust his leg to stay steady.
He couldn’t believe this was happening.
And maybe he should have been ready for it from the very beginning, because in their world, one had never initiated the divorce.
Not without proper backing.
Yet Katya had dared to do it.
Against a Moskowsky, someone who was part of the system that controlled not just the city but the nation as well. Oh, but he was doomed. He knew it.
Yet he wouldn’t change his decision about the divorce.
He refused to let himself be humiliated again by the media.
"Romanov..." Andre said softly, understanding what Katya was going through right now.
At the end of the day, Katya was an omega who despised confrontation.
"I’m fine. I... I just need to breathe a little. I’ll call you guys later," Katya said, and they all agreed before he hung up.
Then came the rage.
The spite for the man who had a family and still dared to hold onto him.
Katya was pissed.
He was not going to let this go anytime soon.
Maybe that was why he stepped out of his office, the courage hitting him hard before Yaroslav even got off the executive floor.
"Yaroslav!" Katya called out.
And the man stood there.
At the end of the hallways.
Like a predator who knew how to corner his prey.
He was smiling at the omega, probably because a part of him believed that his plan had worked.
But then what if it had?
"I knew you’d come to your senses, honey," Yaroslav said, not caring about the papers in Katya’s hands. He could smell the rage radiating off of Katya, but he couldn’t care for that at the moment.
The man was his omega.
His.
"Come to beg for the senator’s life, honey? I knew you were a smart one," Yaroslav said confidently, and Katya just glared at him with wet eyes when he got close. It was a sight so new to Yaroslav that his composure almost faltered.
But he held his ground just in time.
"Is... Is this your promise?" Katya asked, his scent suddenly going from a raging omega ready to give a beta a piece of his mind, to an omega who was emotionally exhausted.
"What?" Yaroslav asked, clearly caught off guard.
"You swore to be loyal, yet you cheated on me for our entire courtship and marriage. You even had a child, and I had to deal with... With the trolls," Katya sniffled suddenly, his scent bitter, as his tears threatened to flow.
And Yaroslav staggered.
He’d never seen Katya cry.
Not because of him.
Maybe when he was watching emotional movies.
Maybe when he was missing his friends.
But this? This was different for Yaroslav.
"Honey..." Yaroslav said, his voice soft like he was just trying to make things better.
"Everyone ridicules me. My family laughs at me for still being in love with you. My friends think I’m crazy for hoping we could star rover again. The entire Frolo thinks I’m trying to ruin your marriage with Milan...
"Where does that leave me if not the husband who’s clinging onto shit that will never be his again?" Katya cried, his eyes red and his tears falling fast.
"Honey, no..."
