Chapter 158: Who Says Truth Is Beauty After All?

[FROLO]

For a moment, he wondered if he had given the omega that much freedom. If this was because of what he did, Katya was courageous enough to walk away from him.

Sergei should have known his plan would backfire.

He had married his son’s husband. What the fuck did he expect? A happily ever after just because he gave Katya everything?

Did Katya know that a divorce from Sergei was impossible? That the contract Katya had signed made sure of that, even if the clauses were so simple and never tainted?

Did Katya know that a divorce from Sergei would mean his family would be back in debt again?

Oh, how Sergei had to remind himself to stay calm.

Because right now, he couldn’t let his mouth work before his brain.

So, he tried to look casual while eating and waiting for Katya to keep talking. Because honestly, the alpha didn’t know what he would do now.

He had given Katya freedom.

And now there was a chance that Katya was going to use it to get away from him.

Would Sergei chin him back, though?

"Yes. I’m going to the courthouse today," Katya said, and Sergei felt his head hurting.

But he waited.

He was a patient man... Right?

Oh, but he was about to go insane.

His omega had spent his heat with someone else and was thinking of a divorce. What the fuck had the senator given him?

"I assume it’s because of the senator?" Sergei asked, his voice calm.

Way too calm.

"No. I’m doing this for me," Katya said, and Sergei’s blood pressure threatened to shoot through the roof.

Still, he willed himself to be a proper man.

"Because of the head I sent you?" Sergei asked, his voice lowering like he was trying his very best to stay calm.

But it was getting harder by the second.

This was terrible.

This was insane.

This was the kind of hell she wasn’t sure she was supposed to even be a part of.

When the fuck had his life gotten so hard?

"I should have done this a long time ago," Katya said, and Sergei was so close to calling Anya to get him out of there. He looked like he was dying on the inside.

Literally.

"You look pale, Vladimir. You alright?" Katya asked as he reached duty for the alpha, ignoring his subconscious that was still determined to haunt him with Dream Sergei.

"I’m alright. So, the divorce," Sergei insisted.

And Katya knew the man was contemplating.

But then Katya wasn’t going to give up.

Not now.

This was the closest he had come to being free, and besides, there was no telling if Sergei was ever going to be around or where she would be after this. The man was a ghost most of the time.

So, Katya continued.

"Yes. I’ll be filing for an annulment of my marriage to Yaroslav," Katya said confidently, like he was not letting the man get any assumptions.

If Sergei wanted to insist on marriage with Yaroslav, Katya was ready to fight.

"What?" Sergi asked, and Katya could swear he saw the color return to the man’s face.

Maybe an annulment with Yaroslav wasn’t so bad, right?

"He cheated on me our entire marriage. He has a child with his mistress. He announced to the world that he’d never leave his mistress. He told everyone that Milan gave him what I couldn’t.

"It’s only fair that we go our separate ways. I can’t stay in a marriage with a man I can’t stand. Besides, I already have my freedom, and I intend to use it to be happy," Katya said.

And Sergei...

Sergei’s heart jumped in his chest in excitement.

Katya wasn’t divorcing him.

Katya was divorcing his son.

Katya was divorcing Yaroslav.

And suddenly, Sergei had hope.

Maybe letting Katya go wasn’t such a bad idea.

He would definitely read more of those romance 101 books now. He would dedicate his life to those damn books and make sure to read until the very last page.

His Solnyshka wasn’t kicking him out of his life.

His Solnyshka was freeing himself.

And Sergei could already see the future.

One in which Katya was truly happy.

One in which Katya didn’t suffer is that he never did anything wrong.

One in which Katya had a reasonable boyfriend, even while married to him.

Sergei had never been so happy.

"Want more chicken?" the alpha asked with a smile so big on his face that Katya stared in confusion.

He had been expecting Sergei to say no.

Because Yaroslav was right.

Moskowskys never divorced.

It was the one rule he had been told, even on their wedding day.

Yet now Katya was intending one.

And Sergei Moskowsky wasn’t stopping him.

"What?" Katya asked, confused.

"Chicken... Should I order more?" Sergei asked sheepishly.

"I told you I’m divorcing your son in your family that never processes divorce papers, and you’re asking me if I want more chicken?" Katya asked as if this was the most incredulous situation, he had ever found himself in.

"Well, yes. Your stomach was rumbling while you pretended to be asleep. I figured you’d need more food... is it not enough?" Sergei asked.

Katya facepalmed.

This man couldn’t be serious.

What the hell was he even doing?

"You’re not taking me seriously. Are you? You still believe that your family is the standard, and people don’t get divorced?" Katya asked in frustration, getting up from where he was sitting.

And Sergei had the nerve to mumble at him.

"I was only offering food, what’s there to be mad about?" the alpha huffed slowly.

"Vladimir!" Katya shouted, and Sergei looked at him. Eyes all soft like the man was already considering a heaven with a Katya, even if Katya didn’t know it.

"You don’t like the food?" Sergei asked.

"Oh, gods, what the fuck is wrong with you? I’m divorcing your son! YOUR son! And all you have to say to it is offer me food?" Katya asks in frustration.

He had had enough of this alpha insanity, and now he was still being thrust into another reality with the man. What the fuck had happened while he was gone, and even worse, what the hell was Sergei Moskowsky playing at right now?

Would this ever end?

"He made his bed. He’s gotta lie on it. Why..."
