Chapter 148: The Crazy Speed Of Always Needing More
[KATYA]
"You’ve been asleep for days, Solnyshka. I was starting to think you wanted to die on me," Sergei said, making Katya sit up abruptly.
The omega couldn’t remember much of what happened. But he knew for a fact that being in Sergei’s house was not what he was expecting.
"What am I doing here?" Katy asked before his thought lingered on the one person he had left the company with.
Senator Aleksandr.
"The senator... What the fuck did you do, Vladimir?" Katya asked groggily, his body still weak from the intense heat.
He knew he should have figured out a way through his heat instead of suppressing that shit one too many times, but now wasn’t the time for him to be thinking of that.
Sergei was here.
Alek wasn’t.
Katya had left with Alek.
So why in all bells was the mad barbarian of Frolo here with him?
And who the fuck even lived in a house with black walls and black everything? What the hell?
"I didn’t have to do anything this time, Solnyshka," Sergei said, and Katya stared in confusion.
"What?" Katya asked, only for Sergei to lift the tray of food from the table and gently put it on Katya’s lap on the bed.
"I cooked, Solnyshka, and you need to eat. It’s been a rough couple of days for you. I don’t want you dying on me," Sergei said calmly, like this was normal for him.
And Katya wondered what segment of utopia he had stumbled into.
What the hell was this?
"If you want answers, you’re going to have to eat, moy Solnyshka," Sergei added gently, like a man who knew how things would end. Like he was not even in a hurry for anything anymore.
"What if you poisoned it?" Katya said.
Sergei just laughed lightly.
"Touche, Solnyshka. But I’d die a thousand deaths before I hurt you in any way," Sergei said as he picked the extra spoon from the tray and used it to drink the soup.
It was a show of trust, and Katya wasn’t focused attentively, not expecting this from the barbarian.
Sergei Moskowsky was a walking back flag, so who was this man in casual clothes who was talking to Katya like they had known each other since forever.
"Doesn’t taste like poison to me, Solnyshka," Sergei said, and Katya glared.
But he trusted the madman for some reason.
So, he began eating, determined to get his answers. But then again, if he was being honest with himself, other than being hungry and desperate for answers, Katya wanted to eat what Sergei had prepared.
He had been ready to eat it the moment he had smelled it.
He knew Sergei wouldn’t poison him.
If the man wanted him dead, he wouldn’t waste time preparing soup for Katya during his heat. He would simply kill him without thinking twice.
Maybe torture him first.
But this wasn’t torture.
This was care.
"I’m sorry, Solnyshka," Sergei said, and Katya looked up at him.
The food was so good that Katya had almost forgotten who had brought it to him.
Damn, this man needed to open his own restaurant chain and be the head chef of whatever, because his skills were insane.
"For what?" Katya asked curiously. His mind was not registering anything that pointed to Sergei Moskovsky needing to apologize to him.
"All the misunderstanding. I should have clarified earlier and spared you the pain. But Solnyshka, I... I’m not good at communicating when I don’t have to give orders. I just thought you’d understand why I left you everything.
"Didn’t expect you to suffer for it," Sergei said earnestly.
Katya looked at the man, the sincerity on his face reminding him that this man had really gone all out for him. It was weird in every way how he had done all that shit and never asked for anything in return.
He didn’t even control Katya’s life in any way.
Just gave the omega ways out, and Katya interpreted it all in his head.
Only that Sergei didn’t correct him.
"Is this because I spent too much on your cards, you want me to stop?" Katya asked, genuinely amused.
"No. You can spend whatever you want. Even if it’s running the company down, you can do that. It’s yours, Solnyshka. Whatever you want to do with it, I won’t interfere," Sergei said, making Katya look at the man a second time.
Did he even know what he was agreeing to?
Having that much trust in Katya?
It was dangerous, especially for an omega who had been so wronged by the Moskowskys more than once.
But then it wasn’t like Sergei was telling him he was going to be their prisoner, right?
Sergei had given him freedom and meant it.
"I’m not returning your sweater and scarf. They’re mine now. You can’t take them back after giving them to me. I don’t care if Irina wants you to," Katya said, suddenly making Sergei look at him with tender eyes.
The man’s gaze was so soft that it had Katya confused for a whole minute there.
"Irina?" the alpha asked.
"Yes. Your girlfriend. The scarf and sweater are mine. I won’t return them," Katya said, and Sergei just said closer to Katya, reaching his hand to brush Katya’s cheek and thumb to trace the one as his lips.
"They’re yours, Solnyshka. No one will ever take back anything I give to you. Not if they want to keep their lives," Sergei said, and Katya groaned.
"You’re so annoying," Katya grumbled.
"I’m sorry, Solnyshka."
"Stop apologizing!" Katya groaned.
"I don’t know what else to do, my Solnyshka. I broke your heart more than once. I don’t know what else to do if not apologize for it every chance I get," Sergei said in earnest.
His eyes held Katya’s in the kind of way that had the omega feeling tingles in his chest and across his body. It was a different feeling because now Katya was more aware of the hand on his cheek.
The way their skin touched and how electrifying it was.
Gods Katya was hot.
He was feeling hot.
And it wasn’t because of the soup before him.
"You made me soup and brought me breakfast in bed. You gave me my freedom. You knew I was being bratty with all the useless purchases, and you still approved them anyway.
"I think that’s a good start for an apology," Katya said, his smile brightening.
And Sergei...
He smiled at him.
Not the corporate smile.
Not the stiff smile.
The alpha actually smiled at him.
And Katya could swear the world was healing because the devil of Frolo knew how to conjure a smile. Perhaps this was the way things were meant to be for them, right?
"You really didn’t kill Alek, did you?" Katya asked after a short silence.
"Do you really care that much about him?" the alpha asked, the genuine curiosity and concern in his eyes making Katya wonder what it was that was going on in Sergei’s head.
"Yes. He’s good to me," Katya said, and Sergei flinched visibly.
"I see," he said.
"Vladimir..."
"I am a monster, Solnyshka. But I’m not the monster who will take away what makes you happy. Your happiness is all I care for. The senator lives. He’ll come pick you up in a few. I already called him when you woke up," Sergei said.
Katya stared at him, a pout on his face like that was not what he was expecting.
