Chapter 149: Pitfalls Of The Man I Became
[KATYA]
"You’re not a monster," Katya said as he drank his soup.
"You don’t have to make me feel b—"
"I’m not. I’m just saying things as they are. You’re not a monster, Vladimir," Katya insisted, and Sergei laughed at that.
It was hilarious how a cute little omega on his bed was telling him he wasn’t a monster when the entire city knew the opposite was true.
"There’s a whole population that would disagree with you," Sergei points out.
Katya pouted at that.
"That’s because they don’t know you well," Katya defended, making the alpha raise a brow.
"Oh, really now?" Sergei asked, amusedly.
"You’re kind, caring, even if you never show it. You offered me a marriage just to save my family. You kept my secret all these months, even when you finally had a grandchild for your family.
"You made sure I had everything, even when I kept pushing back and working from a point of fear. You made the trolls stop, even when you had a complete family. You still looked out for me. Still look out for me even when I’m being a brat.
"And I called you, and you came. Even used the public elevator when you despise shared spaces so much," Katya said, looking at the alpha who just pulled back his hand from Katya’s cheek.
It was almost like he needed proper grounding to give an explanation. But what else was there?
Katya was no fool.
He had a brain of his own.
A mind that worked all the time, and it was only just a matter of time for the little things to add up, however scattered they were. Perhaps it was dangerous, but here and now, Katya was saying things as he saw them with his own eyes.
Not how everyone in the city imagined it all to be.
"I wasn’t able to pick up when you first called back then... I didn’t know you even called. Just got to check my voicemail when the telecom service notified me of a full voicemail. I know you said I shouldn’t apologize again;
"... but I should have done better. I... it wasn’t fair to you. So, when you called again and ended the call, I couldn’t just sit and wait. Not after everything the city put you through because of me and my son.
"Also, I wanted to come. I’ll always come when you calm down. Me. Always," the alpha said, and Katya felt his eyes brimming with tears.
The barbarian of Frolo was being kind and sweet to him in ways he couldn’t even explain.
"Maybe you’re saying that because I’m in heat and emotional," Katya said, looking at the beautiful nest around him.
It was like a dream come true for him.
He couldn’t even remember the last time he nested and actually loved his nest.
But now, he was surrounded by that sweet rising scent that kept him calm and made him feel better.
Oh, but Sergei’s scent was comforting; Katya could breathe it in every single day of that was never an option.
"No, Solnyshka. I just want you to be happy. I never want to lie to you. Sure, I’m terrible at most of the things that normal people deal with, but I would die first before lying to you. I care about you.
"Whatever makes you happy, you do it, alright? But for now, you have to eat up. Don’t want the senator growling at me for not feeding you right," Sergei said, and Katya stared softly as the man pulled back from the bed.
He couldn’t help but say hi. It stayed a little longer.
Maybe he would have an explanation for that, or maybe this was just what life was like for him.
After all, Sergei was almost his father’s age, right?
"Vladimir..." Katya called out to Sergei headed toward the door.
"Yes, Moy Solnyshka."
"Don’t go... Not yet. Please," Katya said, adding the last bit quietly.
"But the senator is here already," Sergei said as if to remind Katya that his boyfriend was going to be taking him home.
"I know... Just... stay a little longer, please. Even just until I finish my breakfast," Katya pleaded, and Sergei looked at him as if to ask if he was sure.
Before Sergei could say anything, Katya spoke again.
"Stay with me, Vladimir. I’m sure I want you to," Katya said.
And Sergei...
He didn’t leave.
Just came back to the bedside and watched as Katya ate his breakfast.
"Eat with me," Katya said a moment later, and Sergei looked at him again.
"It’s not poisoned," the alpha insisted.
"I already told you, I trust you. I know you wouldn’t intentionally hurt me. I just want to share my breakfast with you.
"You do owe me a free breakfast meal, remember?" Katya said, referencing the conversation they had had months ago before the revelation that ruined his life with Yaroslav’s.
"Oh... I almost forgot that," Sergei said sheepishly.
"We both know you didn’t," Katya said coldly, before adding;
"Eat with me. Dinner will be on me once my heat is over. And you just show up."
"You have a boyfriend now, Solnyshka."
"Yes."
"I doubt he would want to see you have breakfasts and dinners with me."
"This is my decision."
"Still..."
"Why do you insist on that?"
"Because if you were mine, I’d never let someone share so much as a water glass with you."
"You have Irina now."
"Yes."
"By your logic, should she be worried about you being here with me, or me being in your house and getting breakfast in bed while I’m in heat?"
"That’s no business of hers."
"But you belong to her."
"Yes."
"She can give you a family."
"Yes."
"Then you need to not lose her because of me."
"Solnyshka," Sergei said as he grabbed his spoon, the one he had used before.
"It’s true, though," Katya insisted, and Sergei just stared at him amusedly before he fed some of the soup to Katya.
With his spoon.
Not Katya’s spoon.
And Katya noticed.
"You talk too much," the alpha said, but Katya...
He wasn’t ready for it to end.
"Vladimir... More... Please," Katya begged.
Sergei was never one to say no to Katya. It was something that Katya had learned along the way since he’d been married to the devil on paper.
So, Sergei gave him more.
Fed the omega with his spoon.
Occasionally licking it while Katya watched hungrily.
"Drink up, Solnyshka, you’ll need to be nourished," Sergei said as he held the juice glass to Katya’s mouth.
And Katya...
He drank it all.
His eyes never leaving Sergei’s.
It was insane how shit happened.
When Sergei pulled the glass back, now empty, and settled it on the tray, Katya’s eyes followed every movement of his muscles.
Gods, the alpha was well built.
Katya had seen him once that night with the tank top and Irina, but goddamn, looking at him now, this man looked like sin.
"I’ll take these back to the kitchen and let your boyfriend in," Sergei said, his words snapping Katya back to the presence they were in.
"Vlad—"
"Hush now, Solnyshka. You’ll be fine. Everything will be fine," Sergei said, as their faces inched closer.
Katya knew he needed to pull back.
This was Sergei Moskowsky.
Instead, the omega kicked his lips in anticipation.
Only for Sergei to look at his lips...
And kiss him on the forehead.
"Be a good boy for your boyfriend, Solnyshka," Sergei said before leaving a delirious Katya behind.
Katya stared at the door, as if he was expecting the barbarian to come back. He didn’t like how the room felt now, and he wanted to complain. But what was there to complain about his boyfriend coming to pick him up?
Why was he pressed when Sergei was doing what anyone in their right mind would do?
But still, it didn’t feel any better.
Especially when Katya shut his eyes in frustration, and smelled blueberries.
Of course, the senator was already here.
Sergei had told him that the man was coming.
But to get here that fast was intense, yet Katya readied himself for his body to be fired mentally, like the shift between the two alphas was something he had started noticing and hated a little more than he would ever admit.
"Little rose..." he heard.
And Katya’s chest tightened at the betrayal he felt for the senator.
Still, he opened his eyes.
But the room was different.
Way too different.
"Your fever is finally down. I was starting to get worried," Alek said, his smile making Katya stiffen at the realization.
He had been dreaming.
Of all the people in Frolo...
Sergei fucking Moskowsky.
What the fuck was wrong with him??
