Chapter 147: A Father’s Nest: Run, Yaroslav, Run

[FROLO]

Yaroslav stared at the reports again.

He already checked them more than once. The screens on the right of his father’s study were too packed with shadows planted on Katya.

Who he interacted with.

Where he went.

What he did with the senator while they were out in public.

The reports went as far as seven years ago.

The first time, Yaro had brought Katya home.

And Yaroslav, he wasn’t creeped by it.

Maybe because that sort of him had always expected that to happen. Maybe because he knew his father was always paranoid about who they let into their family and who they didn’t.

But most of the reports on the table were current.

Reports spanning ten months ago. They had gotten intense, especially since Katya had been made chairman of the Moskowsky group.

Yaroslav knew his father enough to know the man didn’t do things just for the sake of it.

He knew that such surveillance was to make sure the family name stayed intact.

And worse...

Yaroslav found reports of him cheating.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, he went to Milan.

They were all here.

Oh, but Yaroslav couldn’t breathe.

How much did his father know?

Was his approval just another test for him?

This was bad.

Really bad.

So, Yaroslav locked the door and stepped out like he had never been in there. Even though a part of him knew his father would always know if someone entered his space uninvited. Sergei Moskowsky was insane like that.

Yaroslav had found himself in his father’s reports.

Not his risky life and the terrible decisions he made.

But in those days, he had been cheating with Milan.

His father had never cared much.

But it wasn’t hard to tell why he was only surveilled on the days he had been with Milan. Even in the days he had been blackout drunk, there had been reports there.

Oh, but Yaroslav had long known his father was the devil.

But gods, he was screwed.

So, he went into his father’s bedroom to make sure the devil was still asleep.

He was.

And Yaroslav used that chance to clean up the penthouse.

Maybe if he made this place shiny, he would not be in as much trouble with his father, right?

Maybe if he focused and did everything right, he would not be under scrutiny, no?

But then with Sergei, there was nothing that screamed peace even on a normal day.

It took him an hour to be done with the penthouse. Another five to bring the construction workers and people who could fix the office and help them work through fixing the executive floor.

By the time Yaroslav was done with everything, it was four o’clock in the evening.

His father was still sedated.

That was how strong the sedative had been.

So, Yaroslav slipped out of the company, but not before going back to the penthouse and checking the cameras for where the senator took Katya.

The man had taken Katya to his apartment.

Not the Katya penthouse.

And Yaro wasn’t sure if he wanted to be pleased that Katya didn’t let anyone into his penthouse or be worried about what the heck was going on with him.

When he got to the lobby of the headquarters, Yaroslav ran into Milan. He didn’t even wait to know what the woman had corn for there.

He simply stared at her, the horror obvious on his face.

"He knows. Father has been surveilling us from the moment we started cheating on Katya," Yaroslav mumbled, and Milan went pale instantly.

"WHAT?" Milan asked like she had finally understood that Sergei was the devil reincarnate.

"We need to leave Frolo, go away for a week. A month or two. We can say it was because we needed a break with the child. That would sell with him. But we need to get out of here before he wakes up and realizes I found out about his surveillance on us.

"I noticed him following Katya and thought it was to kill him. But after everything I saw there. He will definitely kill you and me first before he eliminates Katya. Let’s go and lock up," Yaro said hurriedly.

Milan didn’t need to be told twice.

Sergei was the danger that everyone ran away from.

And if Yaroslav, the man’s only child and favorite person in the entire realm, was saying that they were in trouble, Milan had nothing to dispute. They were in real trouble then.

"Your father is crazy," Milan mumbled when they got to the car, and Yaroslav drove away like someone who had just died covering that the worst of assassins was after his life.

His father scared the living hells out of him.

If Sergei knew about everything, he was already doomed.

There was no way out of this.

"You knew that when you started going out with me," Yaroslav said as he drove fast. He knew he could have used the helicopter on the helipad, but then there was no time. That shit made a lot of notice and he would be caught by his daddy dearest.

"Hold on. If he knew about us the entire time and still gave us the company..." Milan was confused. She didn’t know what to think, but then what was there to think of when the Grim Reaper was coming after both of them?

"I was an errand boy in his office until the baby was born, remember? Knox belongs to Erika. Not me. Not you. Our daughter. Unless you forgot that bit," Yaroslav explained as he stepped on the gas oven more.

He didn’t even know why he was running, but after the surveillance feeds, Yaro knew it was just a matter of time before his father came for his head.

And he would take this headstart.

"Also, why were you at the company?" Yaroslav asked as if he had just remembered what he should have sensed earlier.

"Today is your papa’s memorial. You didn’t mention anything about the day, so I figured you’d be stuck working your grief away," Milan said as she looked outside the window.

There were billboards with Vitya Moskowsky’s face across the city. It was the one Memorial Day that had people holding their breath and trying to stay away from the sight of the Moskowskys.

Even the traffic had cleared for Yaroslav when they saw his car approaching the lanes. No one wanted to be roadkill because they knew how hard this day was for both father and son.

"Wait... Yaro, look..." Milan said as she pointed at one of the billboards.

"No way," Milan sighed as she stared at the reminder on the billboard.

All Frolo borders were closed during the memorial week of Vitya Moksowsky.

Even flights were grounded.

"It happens every year. Fuck," Yaroslav said like he had just remembered the utopia the city turned into during this time of the year.

"What will we do now?"

"We can’t run. Not until the borders are reopened."

"No shit, Sherlock."

"We go home and never leave the baby’s side."

"The baby your insane father threatened to kill more than once?"

"Yes. That baby. Let’s just hope that he doesn’t kill us with the baby, too. Now shut up and let me think!" a frustrated Yaroslav shouted as he drove them home.

More like their final destination.

But who was to tell them the truth, though?
