Chapter 157: The Cigarette Burned Too Soon

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.

Zane was being considered a rebel by many people and naturally, they wanted to stop him.

The Wardens just got an early chance for that.

They circled him around, slowly but when the man removed his scarf and showed his face, the wardens lost it.

They all wanted a piece of him as the rich hated him and if they captured him, they would be rich too.

Therefore, their greed made them dash towards Zane, shortening the circle they created outside Hena’s mansion.

But that only helped Zane and Jammy.

The janitor lifted Zane with both his arms, veins popping on his neck and using all his strength...

"Take the bait, you mindless urchins!"

He launched Zane over the Wardens.

With Zane, the gazes of the armored men also went as all of them turned their bodies around.

Zane felt the wind slamming on his face as he struggled to keep his eyes open in midair.

THAAM!

Zane fell on the grass.

The garden of another mansion.

He looked behind and his brows shot up.

Hena’s mansion was left behind.

And not just Hena’s mansion, the throw of Jammy made Zane skip the house next to Hena’s and landed on the third house.

How does he have such strength? Or am I just light?

Zane didn’t know Jammy had it in him.

At most he expected jumping a few feet away from the Wardens.

But he covered a good enough distance from them.

Though, his relief was short-lived.

The countless steps of the Wardens arrived and in their haste, they jumped over the walls to get their hands on him.

They really are urchins.

Zane shook his head.

Jumped on his spot.

Inhaled a deep breath and when he was ready...

The tag game began.

Jammy watched the horde of wardens running after Zane, with regard to nothing in their way.

Vehran was also among the Wardens and since he too wanted rewards, he dashed towards the gutterborn too.

All of them forgot about Jammy.

But Jammy, he didn’t forget.

He might not be able to stop all the wardens but he could certainly stop the one responsible for the current situation.

Vehran ran past Jammy but before the Warden could cover more distance, a hand came on his face.

A palm.

A palm smelling like tobacco.

"What’s the hurry, reward man?"

Before the warden could make sense...

THRAAM!

He flew to the boundary wall around Hena’s mansion.

Blood came out of his mouth as he watched Jammy placing a cigar on his mouth.

Jammy walked towards Vehran as the warden tried to stand up.

But he wasn’t able to do that in time as Jammy already reached in front of him.

The man looked down at the blood-coughing Warden and bent down.

But not to talk.

Jammy extended his right hand and held Vehran’s left ankle.

The warden didn’t know what the janitor would do and before he could ask it, Jammy dragged the man.

He dragged the warden in the center of the Hena’s dry garden.

"What are you doing? Let me go! I don’t want you." Vehran yelled.

But Jammy said nothing.

He simply raised his leg and placed it right on Vehran’s chest.

Vehran didn’t have his sword anymore but he still used his hands to hurt Jammy.

The janitor, however, didn’t move an inch.

His leg remained as it was.

"What are you doing?!"

Vehran screamed and jerked his hands and legs together.

He tried to stand up but Jammy pushed his leg harder, breaking the ribs of the man.

Then, from the inner pocket of his long coat, he took out a silver lighter.

He clicked it near his cigar but this time, no fire came.

He clicked it over and over but apart from sparks, nothing concrete came out.

He spat and threw the lighter away.

"I have to arrange a light on my own now. What a pain."

He clicked his tongue and looked at the man below his feet.

The man watched Jammy with extreme hatred in his eyes but as he watched Jammy, his attention went to the sky.

Black clouds gathered over the spot where Jammy and the man were.

The man frowned at the sight as the day was sunny a second ago. And it only rains once every year in Dwarkam. The day after the Full Merge.

And the clouds only hovered above Jammy.

"What is going on?" He asked, looking at the janitor again.

But when Vehran met Jammy’s eyes, he shivered.

Whether the warden’s eyes played tricks on him or whether it was true, he didn’t know.

But Vehran swore on his life that he saw lighting bolts cracking inside Jammy’s eyes.

"I don’t want any part of this. Let me go!"

The warden tried harder than ever.

He forgot about the pain of his ribs and used all his strength to remove Jammy’s leg.

But he wasn’t even able to make it twitch.

Sweat arose all over his body as the clouds darkened more and more.

Vehran had to get out now.

His entire soul told him to get away.

He saw no chance of getting out until his eyes fell on the way Jammy stood.

He decided to take the chance.

He decided to use the age old self defense everyone does before they learn fighting.

"Fuck you. Take this!"

He raised his leg and aimed it right between Jammy’s legs.

He used the sure shot way of getting free.

However...

"Took you long enough."

Jammy spoke and before Vehran could execute his plan...

BAAAMM!

Lightning fell on both men.

The Wardens running after Zane, Zane running from the Wardens, all of them jerked their heads at the noise and their jaws hung open.

A thick dark blue lighting danced on one spot and under it, they saw a skeleton standing.

But it lasted only two seconds and everything came back to normal.

However, it might be normal for the five hundred Wardens but not for Zane.

Because as the lighting died, Jammy appeared unscathed with his Cigar emitting smoke.

In front of Hena’s house, Jammy watched the man beneath his feet.

The man dirtied his shoe.

His expensive leather shoe now had dirt all over it.

It wasn’t before.

The dirt only arrived after the lighting.

The dirt only arrived after the man wasn’t alive anymore.

It only arrived when Jammy killed Vehran.

"Great."

Jammy shook his head.

"My shoe got dirty and the whole cigar burned. What a waste."
