Chapter 143: Chapter 143: To Save Her

"Who is it?"

"The old madam of the Bell Group—Caleb Bell’s grandmother. As far as I know, she’s the highest-ranking figure in the Ayers Group. Given... given the connection between Summer Lancaster and Caleb Bell, I think he’ll help..." Dominic Thorne’s words were cut short by Kenneth Yates’s sharp glare.

This struck a nerve with Kenneth Yates. Why did it have to be Caleb Bell? The man’s intentions were obvious—he was in love with Summer Lancaster. What would happen if he pushed Summer toward him now? What’s more, Kenneth had no idea what Asher had said to Summer to make her turn out this way.

"Boss... I’ll do some more digging!"

"Don’t bother. We’ll go find Caleb Bell tomorrow." Kenneth Yates’s eyes were resolute. He had to put these romantic entanglements aside for now. He would save Summer Lancaster, no matter the cost. ’Even if it means losing her!’

"Huh? Really? You don’t mind?" Dominic Thorne was stunned. He hadn’t expected Kenneth Yates to agree so readily. He’d figured Kenneth would search the ends of the earth for a Wizard before he ever went to Caleb Bell.

"Either way, I’m going!" Kenneth Yates glanced at Summer Lancaster, who was sound asleep beside him. Her cheeks were still flushed, making her look adorable, but they were utterly lifeless. ’This isn’t what I wanted to see,’ he thought. ’I promised I would protect her...’

It was noon by the time Kenneth Yates and Summer Lancaster got home. Summer was still in a trance, her eyes lifeless, and she wouldn’t say a word. Kenneth simply ordered takeout for them, then settled her down to sleep. Summer was as docile as a doll, letting him arrange her as he pleased.

Kenneth Yates went into his study, put on his glasses, and started researching on his computer. It seemed there had always been rumors circulating about the Brown Family, but no one could offer a definitive explanation. As for what kind of curse Asher had placed on Summer Lancaster, no one knew.

That afternoon, Melody Donovan rushed over to Kenneth Yates’s place in a panic. "Summer! What on earth happened to Summer?!" Melody ran upstairs impatiently, questioning Kenneth breathlessly. She had heard from Dominic Thorne that their trip had been disastrous, especially for Summer, who had apparently suffered some kind of inhuman torment. But Dominic hadn’t told Melody what exactly had happened, so she’d just hung up on him. He was just spouting pleasantries anyway, so she figured it was pointless to keep talking.

Kenneth Yates was a little surprised by Melody Donovan’s arrival. He hadn’t planned on telling anyone, since it would only make them worry unnecessarily. Besides, there was nothing they could do to change the situation.

"Calm down. She’ll be okay. Someone placed a curse on her, so her mind is a little clouded. But rest assured, I’ll do everything in my power to cure her..."

"What do you mean, ’her mind is a little clouded’? Don’t tell me Summer... lost her memory?" A terrifying thought struck Melody, and the more she considered it, the more frightened she became. ’How could a trip to Ameris end up like this?’

"If only it were just amnesia..." Kenneth Yates muttered, walking over to the window. ’If she’d only lost her memory, he was confident he could make Summer Lancaster fall for him all over again. But in her current state, he was completely powerless.’

After seeing Summer Lancaster’s condition, Melody Donovan began to wail hysterically, crying enough tears to flood the bedroom. She couldn’t bear that her best friend didn’t recognize her, wouldn’t even look at her, and wouldn’t say a single word to her.

Kenneth Yates had no idea what to do with Melody Donovan. Her hysterics would disturb Summer Lancaster, so he called Dominic Thorne and told him to come pick her up.
