Chapter 161
The thick and heavy scent of... huh.. was that burnt earth?! hung heavily in the air, instantly confirming Alex’s worst fears the moment he arrived at Nyx’s private estate. And what made his blood turn cold was the shocking sight that greeted him.
The once beautiful and pristine mansion grounds were completely unrecognizable, with the presence of massive craters littering the ground in every direction, some even spanning several meters across.
The expensive fountain he had admired so much now lay reduced into a pile of ruin. And the beautiful trees that had once decorated this estate had either been uprooted completely or snapped clean in half, leaving splintered trunks scattered across the ruined land.
Alex’s face gradually darkened. Dammit! Before he kills those Kade bastards, he would first of all make them cough up cash for all the damage they had caused to his woman’s property.
His gaze shifted forward. Not too far away, three familiar figures stood facing another group. Jade and Doris looked far more exhausted than he had ever seen them.
Dirt covered their clothes, and several tears had appeared in their outfit. There were faint blood stains from the corner of their mouths, and they were both breathing heavily while forcing themselves to remain standing through sheer determination.
The sight of seeing them like this made Alex’s murderous intent grow stronger.
Standing right beside them was Nyx. But unlike the other two, she was not hurt in the least bit. Instead, her beautiful amber eyes had become much more colder than ever as they stared silently at the three people standing not too far from them.
Alex followed her line of sight, and saw three people.
The first one was a familiar slightly good looking young man with neatly combed blonde hair, and blue eyes that were bright with a calculating and mischievous light, but beneath all that was a sickening sense of obsession as he openly stared at Nyx’s face and body.
This was none other than the one and only, Kade family’s number one asshole, Renzo Kade. The bastard looked completely smug. And why wouldn’t he be? When he was backed by his powerful family. Too bad that smug smile was destined to turn into tears today.
Besides him stood a middle aged man who looked to be in his late forties. He had neatly styled blonde hair and wore a pair of elegant, gold rimmed glasses that gave him a slightly scholarly, refined appearance.
However, the imposing aura of authority and dominance that he radiated proved he should most probably be the Kade family’s head. Chairman Kade.
And last, but certainly not the least, standing slightly behind them was an older man who appeared to be somewhere in his mid to late fifties. He wore simple dark robes like all those old Kung Fu masters from old Chinese movies, but he possessed this incredibly imposing presence.
The moment Alex’s eyes first landed on him, every instinct inside his body screamed danger. From that alone, Alex had already figured out who the old man was.
’So... that’s the Ascendant Realm monster of the Kade family, huh...’
Before Alex could observe any further, Chairman Kade looked directly at Nyx, adjusted his glasses, and said in a deep and imposing voice that echoed across the courtyard.
"I will ask you one final time, and I suggest you choose your words very carefully, little girl. Where is that insignificant scoundrel, Alex Walker?"
Nyx didn’t flinch for one single second like the underworld queenpin she was. She met his powerful gaze head on, her expression completely unreadable as she answered coldly.
"I thought I’ve already told you multiple times already, Chairman Kade. I don’t know where he is. He has been missing for quite some time now."
Chairman Kade chuckled coldly with a cruel, mocking sound that didn’t quite reach his eyes. Without saying another word, he casually pulled out a standard state of the art walkie talkie, pressed a button and said.
"You can proceed."
Not even five minutes had passed when a sharp frantic ringing noise coming from a cell phone broke through the tensed atmosphere. Nyx reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone, before pressing it against her ear.
Even from a distance, Alex could still easily pick up the panicked voice of her financial secretary screaming through the speaker. The news was absolutely devastating.
Just within a short span, half of Nyx’s primary businesses, shipping lines, and corporate holdings had been aggressively targeted, and pushed to the edge of total bankruptcy.
All the major shareholders were panicking, calling emergency meetings and threatening to sell their shares on the open market. Her entire business empire that was built over years of careful planning, was actively collapsing in real time.
But Nyx did not even utter a single word of panic like most people would. She just calmly lowered her phone and ended the call, before sliding the device back into her pocket.
Her face remained as calm and indifferent as ever, but Alex’s extraordinary sharp eyes noticed something else.
Her hands were clenched so tightly at her sides that her sharp nails had dug straight into her skin, making small droplets of what was most definitely her blood, slowly drip from her palms and fall silently onto the ground. She was clearly losing everything, yet her pride refused to bend.
"If you continue to play these foolish, stubborn games and refuse to tell me where that boy is hiding, I can promise you, the resulting damage will be much more worse than just losing half of your petty business empire," Chairman Kade warned, stepping forward with a condescending smile.
Nyx remained completely unmoved by his threats. Her beautiful amber eyes just continued to lock onto his with a fierce, unbreakable pride.
"Chairman Kade, I will repeat myself so that even your aging ears can hear and comprehend it. I have absolutely no idea where he is."
Chairman Kade’s smile widened, but it was completely devoid of any warmth.
"You really are a stubborn little girl, you know that? It’s a shame, really. Since bankrupting more of your precious companies isn’t in any way breaking your resolve, then I suppose I will just have to try a different, more hands on method to extract the information I need."
He casually turned his head toward the silent, robbed middle aged man standing right behind him. Then he bowed his head slightly and politely spoke to him in a tone filled with respect.
"Senior Jefferson, if you would be so kind as to handle this stubborn child."
The elderly man didn’t say a single word. He merely took a slow step forward. The moment he was close, he completely unleashed the full, unbridled pressure of his Aura as an Ascendant Realm Awakened.
An invisible, suffocating wave of pressure Instantly crashed down. The sheer weight of his Aura was so immense that Nyx, who was just a regular human without any abilities, instantly gasped for air as her knees buckled.
She collapsed straight onto the hard ground, groaning in sheer agony as the pressure felt as though a literal concrete block was pressing down on her chest.
The bodyguard behind her fared no better either. One by one, they fell to their knees groaning in pain. Some struggled to breath, while others straight out coughed up mouthful of blood.
The difference between ordinary humans and an Ascendant Realm Awakened was simply too great.
Even Jade and Doris weren’t spared. Their expressions changed, but they were still able to hold their own fairly well. Senior Jefferson looked at the two women with a hint of surprise.
"Oh? Interesting. To think two newly advanced Ascendant Realm Awakeneds who have been affected by my ability earlier on, are still able to remain standing beneath my Aura is truly outstanding."
"But... Let’s see how much longer you..."
Whoosh! Suddenly a black obsidian petal shaped shard sliced through the air, out of nowhere, with a terrifying speed. Behind it trailed a line of black, ominous mist behind it.
The old monster’s expression changed. Without hesitation, he tilted his body just in time, making the shard to brush past his chest, missing his heart by less than an inch before piercing straight through several objects dozens of meters behind him.
"Who goes there?!" Chairman Kade demanded, as he whirled around toward the entrance of the courtyard.
Everyone on the battlefield including the Kades, Nyx, Jade, Doris, and so on, all simultaneously turned their eyes toward the direction from where the lethal attack had been launched.
Walking out calmly through the clearing smoke was an extremely handsome young man, with a face so gorgeous it could make even supermodels and A Grade celebrities feel jealous.
He wore a clean black shirt, with dark jeans and sneakers, his casual attire completely contrasting with the life or death atmosphere of the estate. His beautiful forest green eyes sparkled with a brilliant, dangerously sharp light and the gentle evening breeze made his curly, tousled hair flow effortlessly around his face.
