Chapter 151: Trying To Escape
Chapter 151
"But I did manage to come up with something. That is, hiring an Ascendant Realm mercenary from one of the outside networks."
"Specifically from the largest assassin organization in the US that operates on the exact same power level as Heukryeon. If we can secure one of their S class powerhouse to back us up. The Kade family will be forced to think twice about forcing a direct confrontation."
She sighed deeply, slowly closing her eyes for a short moment before opening them again, this time they held what might have looked like frustration.
"But sadly that route has immense risks and obvious flaws. Mercenaries of that kind of caliber require astronomical fees, and their loyalty lasts only as long as the contract. If the Kades were to offer them a much more higher price than what we initially paid them, then there’s a ninety to ninety nine percent chance they could easily turn on us mid battle."
"But of course there’s still that one percent chance that they might choose to stay loyal, still there are too many uncertain factors. Because of that, I haven’t come to a final decision yet."
Alex listened to her explanation with his mind thinking rapidly. Hearing her talk about hiring outside help only seemed to further solidify his resolve. They didn’t need some expensive, untrustworthy mercenary.
All they just needed was for him to break through. because if he could reach that rank that was just within reach in a couple of hours, they wouldn’t have to rely on anyone else.
It wasn’t some kind of boastful talk or anything. He knew that, just in Ascendant Realm, his raw physical prowess would dominate most Ascendant, and if we talk about ability, then he’s got a whole arsenal of abilities that could help and make him look like some kind of broken monster among his peers.
Suddenly Alex realized something important. What if the Kade family suddenly renegade on their word and attack before the twenty four hours ultimatum even ends?
To be honest, it was a very possible idea. After all, this was real life, with people that actually think with their brains, not some movies or books were most times the villains keep their words when issuing a countdown.
It seemed like it was better he goes to sleep with another woman just in case, because he had this hunch that the Kade family might not stick to their words.
He stopped walking. Then he turned his body toward Nyx and said carefully.
"Uh, Nyx, I’m going to be going out soon."
Nyx stopped in her tracks, her entire body freezing as she processed the words that had just come out of this man’s mouth. She turned around to face him, with her previously calm demeanor instantly changing into one of disbelief.
"Where exactly do you think you are going?" She asked, her voice dropping to a dangerously low, icy tone. "Are you completely crazy or what?"
"Aside from the fact that they suspect you might be hiding with me, the sly Kade family are still actively looking for you all over the city. They have scouts and informants deployed at every major intersection just in case of anything. So stepping outside right now is basically a suicide mission."
"Nyx, I’ll be fine, okay," Alex insisted, keeping his voice as steady and calm as possible to reassure her. "I just need to go back to my place and get something pretty important. I promise it won’t take long, and I’ll make sure to avoid areas with people..."
Nyx immediately raised her hand, cutting him off, her beautiful amber eyes narrowing in anger.
"Absolutely not. There is no way you are going anywhere. In fact, what is it that you could possibly need from your house at a time like this?"
"Tell me what it is, and I will simply have my own trusted people go and get it for you. There’s no way I would willingly allow you to put yourself at risk for a piece of property."
Alex felt touched, but he firmly shook his head.
"Thanks for the help but no. I much rather prefer to bring it myself. It’s something personal from a dear friend of mine, so it’s best I probably handle it myself."
As much as he didn’t want to lie to her when she sounded kinda concerned about him. He really had no other choice but to do this. The moment he leaves here, he would immediately go looking for either Olivia or Sofia, get intimate with one of them, and harvest the final Desire Energy needed for his leveling up.
If he stayed here, locked up inside Nyx’s estate, seducing a woman when the others were awake would basically be a dance with the devil. It would be really risky.
Then the timer would run out, that is if the Kades decided to stick to their words, and they would be sitting ducks when the Kades finally arrived.
But he couldn’t exactly explain the inner mechanics of his perverted system to Nyx without sounding completely insane.
Saying something like, so the reason why I really want to go out, is to go sleep with another woman and collect this thing called desire energy which helps me to break through. Yeah right! Nyx would definitely take him to a Psychiatrist. No. She would have her people bring the Psychiatrist over here to treat him.
[Hey, I heard that]
Nyx’s expression turned entirely cold, and her persona as that powerful underworld queenpin took over.
"I don’t care what it is, Walker. As my man, I am the one responsible for your safety while you are under my roof. You are not going anywhere. Step back into your room and go rest. What I just said is final and I will not listen to anything otherwise."
As Alex looked at her cold face, he knew she was going to be stubborn about this. So a flash of regret passed through his green eyes, and he said softly.
"I’m sorry, Nyx... but I really have to go. I hope you can forgive me for this."
Before Nyx could even open her mouth to say anything, Alex suddenly tensed his muscles and dashed past her, speeding down the hallway toward the main exit of the mansion.
He moved with so much speed that the sheer wind from his sudden acceleration rattled the decorative frames and pictures hanging on the wall.
Nyx’s eyes widened in sheer fury and a bit of panic as she realized he was actually defying her order. Not hesitating for even a single second. She snapped out of it and instantly reached into her clothes, pulling out a strange looking communicator and pressing what was most definitely the emergency broadcast button.
"Doris, code red," Nyx said coldly into the device while turning to chase after him and see which path he was following.
"Alex is trying to break out of the estate. I need you to call our other Vanguard Realm expert immediately. Then gather all available Awakened force stationed nearby right now and have them block all major exits.
"After you’re done, immediately have Jade teleport you both to the main gates! I’m a hundred percent sure he’s heading there. Just make sure you stop him by any means necessary, even if you have to use a bit of force. Do not let him leave this place."
Outside, the bright and beautiful morning sun with its warm rays hit Alex’s face the moment he burst through the grand entrance doors of the mansion.
His feet practically flew across the paved stone pathway of the courtyard, his speed incredibly fast as he raced toward the gate.
Suddenly his ears picked up the chaotic sounds of footsteps not too far away. Ahead of him, he could make out the figure of Jade and Doris, and behind him, he saw several people rushing toward him.
What stood out from among those set of people, was an average looking guy, between the range of late twenties to early thirties. The guy was running with a speed that far outmatched that of the other people, but fortunately, he was faster.
Doris’s voice suddenly rang out, telling him to please stop, that don’t make them do this or they would be forced to resort to using force to stop him. But Alex gritted his teeth and continued to move forward.
He didn’t blame Nyx for doing this. In his heart, he fully understood why she was doing all this to stop him; she genuinely believed she was protecting his life from the Kade family’s active search parties outside.
She thought he was just being reckless and incredibly foolish. But she didn’t know the truth. If he wanted to survive the upcoming storm, if he wanted to achieve the breakthrough that would save them both, he had to force his way out, though without harming any one.
He had to go out and meet either Olivia or Sofia tonight, no matter what it took. But now the immediate issue at hand was how was he going to face Doris whose eyes had turned light purple signifying that she had now activated her ability and Jade whose hands were sparkling with faint arcs of her celestial thunder ability, without hurting any of them?
Suddenly! One idea came to mind. But his expression suddenly turned complicated. if he did this, then things would get a whole lot more complicated later.... Sadly, that plan seemed like the only thing that could work in this situation.
