As Alex continued to stare at the translucent status screen in front of him for several long seconds, a slow smile gradually began spreading across his handsome face.
"...A ten percent increase?" He muttered under his breath, and lingered his eyes on the notification again just to make sure that he hadn’t misread it.
You know, normally, after adding a new harem member, the system would usually reward him with minor but helpful improvements to his physical attributes.
A few extra points in strength, speed, agility, or perception had become almost routine by now. But this... This was completely different.
A direct ten percent increase to all his skill stats was like a massive upgrade. Because this time he could somehow feel the difference. The duration time of his Eyes of Chronos had now stretched its active usage period to an impressive 17.5 seconds, giving him even more time to see into the future. And though it was small, at least his limit of Deathfrost Bloom shards that was previously thirty had now shot up to forty. It was just all too incredible.
But enough of all those. What truly made him smile like a little girl collecting candy during trick or treat was the notification detailing his new ability he had officially copied from Annie; Crimson Supernova.
Up until this point, his combat arsenal had mainly been heavily reliant on tactical movement and making precise but accurate attacks, like quickly aiming and killing a guy using Deathfrost Bloom, and fast bursts of speed thanks to his physical prowess.
But he had desperately needed a true, raw destructive ability to level the playing field against stronger opponents. Crimson Supernova was exactly what he needed for that job. The ability could really make a world of difference in a fight.
Alex leaned against the cold reinforced walls, with a thoughtful grin playing on his lips as he considered all the strategic options now available to him.
If he were to combine the absolute unpredictable ability of void step, that is basically just teleportation, and the immense explosive power of Crimson Supernova, he could essentially just teleport directly behind an unsuspecting enemy and drop a crimson Supernova before they could even register his presence, then he’ll teleport again to escape the explosion radius. Ah, it sounded just about amazing. But...
But the only real drawback was the energy consumption and the slight casting time as stated by the system, still, with his impressive agility, he could easily create the necessary distance to form the orbs, or maybe even later he could practice how to use the ability efficiently during his time in the training realm.
His eyes then drifted a bit down the status screen, locking onto his current Desire Energy bar.

A wave of pure excitement surged through his chest. Finally! He was only seventy Desire Energy away from completely filling the bar. And the moment... the precious moment that counter hits six hundred, then the system would grant him his long awaited levelling up to the B Rank.
He would finally leave the damn C Rank tier behind and step into the decent level of the world’s powerful fighters where one was finally in a whole new league of their own. With just enough power to command a bit of respect.
Once he can just attain that level of power, combined with the obviously soon to come boost in his skills that would immediately follow it, the arrogant and overbearing Kade family would finally receive a brutal lesson they would never forget.
They thought they could corner him and Nyx, using their vast influence and power to dictate terms, but an Ascendant Realm breakthrough would make him capable of first of all destroying the powerful opponent they had been so proud of, and wipe all the egotistic and smug smiles from their stupid faces.
Just because they were a powerful family did not give them the right to look down on others, or to forcefully bully people if they didn’t comply with their wishes.
However, Alex quickly shook his head, forcing his mind back to reality. Enough of all that. There was absolutely no use day dreaming about vengeance when he hadn’t actually reached the B Rank yet.
He was still a C Rank fighter, and the remaining seventy Desire Energy he needed wasn’t just going to magically appear out of thin air. If he wants it then he needs to work for it, by sleeping with a woman, asap.
Doris, Nyx and Jade were not feasible for now. And he didn’t know where that woman Celine was. Come to think of it, what is taking that woman so long? Didn’t she say something about how he should sleep with one eye open, that she’ll come to kill him?
Well he hadn’t seen her since that time. He then realized that it probably has something to do with the fact that he had not been at home all this while. After all, he did fly to South Korea not too long and was currently living in Nyx’s mansion because of the Kade’s family issue....
At that moment his thought was disrupted by the faint sound of the prison’s reinforced entrance door opening not too far away. It was then followed by this small, rhythmic sound of heels clicking against the ground, heading directly toward his way.
Alex didn’t need a wizard to tell him who it was. It was most definitely Nyx, coming down to check on him exactly as the one hour timer neared its end. He adjusted his clothes one last time, to make sure that there were no telltale wrinkles or stains that would betray what had actually occurred inside the cell over the last one hour.
Satisfied with his appearance, he decided that it was best to walk forward down the corridor and meet her halfway.
So just as she rounded the corner, Nyx noticed his presence and looked at him calmly. Her amber eyes were sharp, most probably scanning his face and body for any sign of something that said things had gone bad.
She stopped a few places away, her arms crossed elegantly over her ample chest, unconsciously making them come out more.
"So were you later able to do what you said you would do?" She asked coolly.
Alex offered her a casual, slightly tired shrug, playing his part perfectly.
"Hm. More or less," he replied, maintaining a relaxed tone. "But honestly, it didn’t really go too well with Annie. You know she hates us completely to the bone. Every word that came out of that sharp mouth of hers was a threat about how she’ll tear us apart the moment she gets out of that cage or how Heukryeon would find her. Sigh. So trying to gain anything from that stubborn woman is like a pipe dream for now."
Nyx didn’t look entirely surprised by his answer. She let out a small, quiet sigh and turned around, gesturing for him to follow her.
"I already expected that as much. An A-level assassin from the Heukryeon organization are trained to endure the harshest and most extreme psychological pressure. Talk less of someone like Annie who is their best A level Assassin. Breaking her will won’t be an easy task."
The two of them began walking side by side, leaving the dark, heavy atmosphere of the underground prison behind as they climbed the stairs leading back up to the mansion.
To Alex, the transition from the underground prison to the nice, brightly lit corridors of the upper mansion felt really distinct. It was like moving from a highly Sci-fi world to the normal world.
As they continued to walk toward the main living room, Alex glanced at her beautiful side profile and asked.
"So... I’m just a bit curious, but did you later come up with a realistic plan while I was downstairs?"
Nyx slowly shook her head, a rare expression of genuine weariness flickering across her beautiful features.
"No. So far, nothing solid has come up yet."
She paused for a brief second, with her fingers tapping against her arm as she contemplated her options out loud.
"But I did manage to come up with something."
