Chapter 77: To The Royal Capital We Go! Part-7.
After chatting with Layla for a while about various things, Xinran decided to get going.
"Make sure to remain vigilant and come back alive. Sir Zephyr, please keep an eye on this idiot princess of vampires; she’s always reckless and creates trouble everywhere she goes..."
"I leave her safety in your capable hands."
Zephyr was taken aback for a second, but then he nodded his head and accepted the request.
’I have already made a cooperation agreement with Xinran; no point treating Layla as an enemy...’
’Moreover, I was going to try my best to remain safe anyway; it won’t be a big deal to help out Xinran if she ends up in a difficult situation too...’
Zephyr wasn’t good enough of a person to sacrifice himself for others, but he could at least try his best if needed.
"Who are you calling reckless!? Hmph! This young lady is thousands of times stronger than any of you! You should think about your own safety! You lot are too weak to be thinking about standing on equal footing with me!"
Xinran pouted and glared at them both before bringing out a scroll from her space ring.
"Hoh? You are planning on opening a teleportation portal? I thought you preferred flying to travelling with these?"
Hearing Layla’s words, Xinran replied in an annoyed tone,
"I would indeed like to fly straight to the capital city, but this time I have additional baggage with me who can’t fly!"

"Although I can carry him in arms, it would slow us down. Teleportation portals are better when you are in a group."
Zephyr pictured himself, a grown man, being carried away in a princess carry style by Xinran and shuddered from how weird it would seem, so he immediately agreed to Xinran’s teleportation method.
"Well, do as you see fit. But keep in mind that you can’t teleport directly inside the city, as it’s a place filled with miasma... ’laws’ of ’mana’ and ’space’ are suppressed there..."
"Opening a portal in that miasma-filled place is near impossible; you would have to teleport to a farther place before going to the city on foot yourselves."
Xinran nodded her head, bid Layla farewell, and then channeled her mana into the teleportation scroll.
Zephyr dared not miss any detail and kept a close eye on how Xinran activated the magic scroll and how she mobilized her mana.
In the future, he might also manage to get a teleportation scroll, and at that time, he would need to know how to activate it; imitating Xinran was a useful reference point.
SHMMMMM~
Once activated with mana, the scroll burnt away and disintegrated into pure mana.
The pure mana gathered in one place and attracted an immense amount of mana from the surroundings before opening a circular and stable teleportation portal!
The dark bluish colour and the powerful spatial fluctuations of the portal made Zephyr feel a bit nervous, but he didn’t hesitate and followed right behind Xinran.
The duo entered the portal, causing it to close on its own.

Once inside, Zephyr felt weightless as his body floated and swayed in random directions inside the wormhole.
"Circulate your mana in your body and keep yourself stable; if you get caught up by a powerful spatial fluctuation, you might get flung out of the wormhole."
"If that happened, you would be teleported away to some random unknown location and would not be able to find your way back easily."
Hearing Xinran’s warning, Zephyr didn’t hesitate and used his mana to barely stabilize himself.
Travelling through the wormhole, Zephyr felt like an eternity had gone by while also feeling that time had stopped for him at some point.
Wormholes existed between the line of reality and null; they acted as gateways and gaps in the solid fabric of space and time.
The power of the elementals and the various ’Laws’ of the ’World’ was almost nil inside here, causing Zephyr to feel that he had become weaker for some reason after entering the wormhole.
Thankfully, the feeling didn’t last for long, and soon enough, the duo was thrown out by the wormhole through a similar circular portal.
Once out, Zephyr noticed that the portal had thrown them in the sky tens of thousands of meters above the ground!
’I am going to fall!’
Zephyr felt a bit panicked, but before he could fall, a reddish-colored energy wrapped around him like a bubble and prevented him from falling.
[Low Grade Blood Magic: Crimson Shield: Floating Mana Bubble!]

Using blood magic, Xinran had easily prevented Zephyr from falling; as for herself, there was no need for magic, as she had wings of her own that could help her fly in the sky without a problem!
"Hmm, it appears that we managed to teleport without any major problems. That’s good news; I was totally expecting the wormhole to throw us at some random place due to unknown troubles or miasmic interference."
Even Zephyr also felt like nodding his head at those words because with his horrible luck he was already expecting something to go wrong from the very first moment!
’Maybe my luck gained a conscience and decided to finally not cause trouble for me anymore?’
While thanking his bad luck for not messing with him this time in his mind, Zephyr looked towards the horizon and noticed a distant city enshrouded in dark fog.
From here, only a bit of a silhouette of the city was visible; most of it was hidden in the dense dark fog.
"The situation has indeed worsened since last time... Even though we are several kilometres away from the outskirts of the city, even this area has started to become highly corrupted..."
Xinran frowned deeply as she looked at the dark sky above them and felt worried.
Zephyr could even see the ground beneath them was barren and dark in colour.
This darkening of the ground and sky was not something natural; it was the working of miasma and corruption!
"Sigh, let’s go; we do not have the time to dilly-dally here. Miasma will sooner or later notice our presence here, as this place is its domain now..."
"Once it notices us, it will start adapting to us at a very fast pace; try to not use too many of your skills unless it’s really important or they will all lose effectiveness once miasma adapts to them..."
