Chapter 288: Challenging To A Duel

As time passed, the number of spiders only continued to increase. Tens, then hundreds. Vexar was sure that there were now more than a thousand spiders, consisting of tier I, II, and III, in front of him...

Everything was fine for a while, but suddenly, the spiders moved, making space for someone to appear.

A smile appeared on Vexar’s face as he began to feel an aura far more powerful, far from anything he had felt in the cave. Someone was about to appear who could satisfy his hunger for battle.

Hisss! Hisss! Hisss!...

The cave filled with hissing as their mother made her presence clear.

A colossal spider monster appeared, towering over 4 meters tall with a leg span reaching nearly 7 meters. Its exoskeleton was dark black with crimson streaks on its legs and abdomen, giving it an eerie glow.

Its eight eyes, arranged in two rows, shone with an eerie intelligence as if indicating the wide range of spectrums it could perceive. That wasn’t all—the monster possessed curved fangs, dripping with potent venom that could instantly paralyze even the largest creatures.

Hisssssssss!

A wave of aura filled the cave as the monster hissed. Its children instantly lowered their abdomens in response to the call. Satisfied with the obedience the monster hissed once again.

Lifting themselves, the smaller spiders charged at the lone bug standing in the middle of their home. The mother stood there, observing the fate of the lowly creature.

[You sure you can deal with that thing?] A concerned voice reached Vexar’s mind.

[Yeah! No problem. Just take care of those little things,] he replied with a satisfied smile.

Vexar knew the spiders won’t be a challenge from Grec as most of the spiders were of tier I while tier II was about a hundred and two while tier III was the lowest... not even reaching 50.

[As you wish... but if I sense something is wrong I will immediately intervene...] The voice resonated.

Vexar wanted to disagree but before he could even reply, the connection the connection cut off.

’Well, I just don’t have to give him a chance.’

Tightening his grip on the hilt of his sword, Vexar made a stance, ready to face the incoming monster. These were Grec’s problems, but he had to at least survive the initial blow... or that’s what he thought.

The monsters approached him... but for some reason, they couldn’t reach him. The space around the demon had frozen, stopping anyone from reaching him without permission.

The spiders tried to pass through the space a few times but gave up after not achieving anything.

"What are you doing? Face me directly!" Vexar shouted, lifting his sword and aiming at the boss.

Looking at the demon with all eight eyes, the boss hissed. Listing the commands the smaller spiders changed directions abruptly and began to move behind Vexar. They started moving toward the gate.

Lifting its massive feet, the boss moved. Tremors roared in the area as the monster picked up its pace.

’This is going to be fun...’ The smile broadened on his face as his sword began to shimmer with a crimson radiance.

As if reacting to Vexar’s stance, the boss let out a screech, and a chilling sound echoed through the cave. Vexar took a deep breath, feeling the familiar rush of adrenaline.

This fight was going to be fun but tough at the same time; he could already tell from the creature’s imposing form and the malevolent aura it exuded.

As the spider monster lunged forward, Vexar quickly rolled to the side, easily avoiding its snapping jaws.

Lifting his hand, he retaliated with a quick slash of his sword, but the blade merely glanced off the monster’s sturdy exoskeleton, leaving just a light scratch.

"Of course," Vexar muttered. He had expected nothing less from this monstrosity. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

Lifting himself from the ground, he sent a wave of slashes. The monster dodged them without much problem.

The creature reared up, its eyes glowing with a sickly green light for a second. Sensing the attack, Vexar raised his sword just in time to deflect a jet of webbing that shot toward him.

The web was deflected, but some of it stuck to his sword. Vexar sneered as he increased the intensity. The web sizzled, burning away under the intense heat.

Looking at the boss, he noted another point: the spider monster was not just physically formidable; it had magic of its own.

With a swift motion, he conjured a ball of fire in his free hand and hurled it at the spider monster. The fireball exploded against the creature’s exoskeleton, but it seemed to have little effect.

The fireball merely caused the monster to screech in anger. Vexar narrowed his eyes as the spider monster responded with a swift strike from one of its massive legs.

Using his footwork, he sidestepped as the leg smashed into the ground where he had stood, sending up a spray of dirt and debris.

Finding the leg this close, he didn’t waste the opportunity. Lifting his sword, Vexar slashed at the leg, but his blade skittered off the tough exoskeleton, leaving only a superficial scratch.

Hisssss!

Annoyed by the continuous struggle of the little bug, the monster reared and then lunged forward with its fangs bared. Vexar ducked under the attack, feeling the rush of air as the fangs snapped shut just above his head.

Vexar rolled to the side. Raising his sword, he slashed at the creature’s underbelly, but his sword barely made a dent once again.

His normal attacks seemed to have no effect on the monster.

Green webs shot from the creature’s front legs as Vexar was forced to summon a quick burst of flame to incinerate them before they reached him. The burned smell of the web filled the air as the spider continued to press its advantage, lashing out with one leg after another.

With the attacks coming from all directions, Vexar got caught off guard as one of the legs hit his shoulder, sending him sprawling to the ground.

Gritting his teeth against the pain, Vexar rolled to his feet, retaliating with another fireball aimed at the monster’s face.

The creature moved as the fireball exploded harmlessly against its exoskeleton. It wasn’t harmed, but it was enough to give Vexar a moment’s respite.

Vexar took a step back, reassessing his strategy. The spider monster’s exoskeleton was incredibly tough, and his initial attacks were not penetrating its defenses.

He needed to find a weakness... or he needed to go all out.
