Chapter 287: Final Boss

"We are here," Vexar announced as he found a lone fire spirit waiting for him in front of a passage. Reaching the spirit, he dismissed it and looked at the cave in front of him with his own eyes. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

The moment Vexar laid his gaze on the area he knew he reached the right place.

Comparing the cave in front of him with any part of the cave would be a bit problematic. Even while being a part of the dungeon, the section in front of him looked like something else entirely.

Wherever his eyes lay, there were webs—spiderwebs. This whole place was covered in web—not normal webs either. The webs looked stronger, sharper, and sturdier than the webs of any other spider.

Vexar lifted his eyebrows as he found lime droplets of something thick all over the web. From what he could understand, it was covered in poison as well.

That wasn’t all. Here and there, small pools of acid were present. The creator of the pool was the acid that was dropping from the Stalactites hanging from the ceiling.

Even without the boss, the cave seemed dangerous enough to kill anyone who dared to enter it.

’Huh! It is good that I’ve bought poison resistance...’ Vexar gave a self-deprecating laugh as he found himself outplaying the opponents.

He shouldn’t be felling proud as buying the skill wasn’t even his idea, to begin with... but then again who was going to stop him?

Calming himself down, he looked at the area, trying to find the boss hiding in some corner.

Vexar wasn’t the only one assessing the situation; plans were forming in Grec’s mind as well.

’Huh! I guess I can’t just get the loot this time...’ Grec thought as he looked at the area around him.

’...but I don’t think he will let me do it. I have to make sure he only fights the boss one-on-one.’ Knowing the tendency of his brother, Grec was fully sure Vexar wouldn’t let him butt in with the fight with the boss.

He will have to support this overexcited brother of his.

"You guys wait... I will clear the path ahead." Saying these words, Vexar stepped forward and began to burn the web.

The web showed some resistance, but in the end, they didn’t stand a chance against his fire. The flame began to spread to the other webs, but they quickly got extinguished.

The more fire spread from the source, the weaker it was getting, and couldn’t burn the web on its own. Vexar had to constantly expend his mana to clear the area.

After spending some, he was able to clear half the room, but in the process, he had expended most of his mana. Being a swordsman, he really had a small mana reserve compared to his brothers.

Should I use mana potions or let it regenerate naturally...’ Vexar thought, contemplating the options.

He wanted to use the potion to shorten the time, but knowing that he had a limited supply of them, he couldn’t just waste them to do things a bit faster.

In the end, Vexar decided to wait it out.

After reaching the resting area, Vexar instinctively looked at his brother. He was surprised to find that the goblin seemed to be in deep thought.

’He is probably thinking about ways to earn money... or maybe even about that new project of his.’ In the end, Vexar decided to ask.

"Grec, you thinking about something?" he asked, expecting an answer along with some condition.

"Huh! Don’t you think something is not making sense, Vexar..." Instead of a answer he got a question in return.

"What do you mean?" Vexar asked back.

"I was just thinking... after all the destruction, shouldn’t there be some sort of movement? Spiders are monsters who don’t like their web destroyed." Grec whispered as he continued to observe the cave in front of him.

"Now that you mention it... there should be some sort of movement. I mean, nobody likes it when their house gets destroyed... right?" Muttering these words, he looked at the rest of his group.

They weren’t curious before, but after hearing the conversation, they became a bit paranoid as well. Getting the signal, they quickly abandoned their carefree attitude and focused on their surroundings some more.

"Maybe I was wrong and the boss isn’t here," Grec confessed after finding that even after an hour, there was no movement. He was expecting a fight but nothing happened in the end.

"Huh! You are right. I was getting excited for no reason." Muttering these words, Vexar began to move forward. After walking for a few steps he stopped.

’What was that?’ Something had appeared in the corner of his vision. He had seen some sort of red light coming from the opposite side of the cave.

Leaning his head, he began to stare at the area, trying to find what it was. There was nothing ahead of him except webs and darkness. Trying to pierce the veil, Vexar continued staring.

Suddenly, he was forced to move as something came flying in his direction. Letting out a chuckle, he easily dodged the attack using his footwork.

’Shit...’ Biting his tongue, he turned around. He hadn’t paid attention that others were right behind him, and if he were to dodge, the attack would land on them.

Phew!

Vexar heaved a sigh of relief after finding that Grec had blocked the attack with a wall of stone. The acid quickly began to eat through the rock as it crumbled within seconds.

Vexar was still looking behind when a voice resonated in his head, [You focus on the attack, idiot... or should I join?]

[Sorry! You protect. I attack. okay.] Saying these words, he summoned fire spirits and sent them ahead.

The section began to light up as everything started to become clear bit by bit. Soon the spirits moved toward the place from where the attack had come. Before the spirits could light it fully, though, a blob of acid reached them and extinguished their flames.

"Why are you hiding? Face me, you coward!" Not happy with the game of hide-and-seek, Vexar shouted, challenging the monster directly.

He wasn’t expecting an answer... but something changed.

The monster in front of him was different from others... it replied to his mocking.

Suddenly, crimson light began to flicker... so much light that it devoured the darkness in an instant. Within seconds, the silence retreated as it began to echo with a sinister hissing.

Countless spider eyes, gleaming like magnificent rubies, pierced the gloom as each of them landed on the sole demon who had dared to raise his voice over their mother.
