Chapter 36: Rank Two Psionic Master!

Six black streaks of light moved like swimming fish, piercing through every Voidbeast that tried to get close.

Right now, his eyes saw only the strings of Bloodstars jumping nonstop.

Five hundred.

Eight hundred.

Twelve hundred.

Still not enough.

His gaze locked onto a spot a hundred meters away.

There, three giant beasts the size of small hills were rampaging through the battlefield.

Rank Three Voidbeasts.

Savage Fire Apes.

Each of them had the terrifying strength to overturn an armored vehicle. Scorching fire poison radiated from their bodies, making them a nightmare for the defense line.

"You will do."

Joren pushed off the ground.

His body blurred as he skimmed over the heads of the beast swarm.

One Fire Ape noticed the tiny creature provoking it. It let out a roar that shook the battlefield, and its millstone sized fist smashed down at Joren with a wave of rolling heat.

The air twisted under the temperature.

Lithe Form, full release.

The Fire Ape’s fist tore through Joren’s afterimage and struck the ground, crushing several unlucky Rank One Voidbeasts into paste.

"Die."

The combat blade sank into the Fire Ape’s thick neck without the slightest resistance.

Then Joren poured strength into his arm and spun around its neck with the blade.

A massive ape head shot into the air.

A column of blood sprayed several meters high.

[Killed Rank Three Voidbeast, Savage Fire Ape. Gained Bloodstars: 500.]

Joren landed.

He did not spare the slowly falling corpse another look. His consciousness sank straight into his mind.

"System."

"Raise my mental realm."

[Consume 1000 Bloodstars. Mental realm upgrading...]

Boom.

Deep in his sea of consciousness, the crystal that represented his identity as a Psionic Master trembled violently.

A second mysterious pattern appeared across its surface.

His sense of control surged several times over in an instant.

The Mental Force that had once reached only fifty meters now spread outward like mercury spilling across the ground.

Sixty meters.

Eighty meters.

One hundred meters.

Within a hundred meter radius, even the rhythm of an insect’s wings would be under his absolute control.

Rank Two Psionic Master.

"Rise."

Joren gave a low shout.

The sheath at his waist trembled violently again.

The six Nightshade throwing knives were no longer alone. Under the pull of his vast Mental Force, large amounts of broken metal fragments were dragged out from the battlefield ruins.

Those fragments twisted and reshaped under his psionic power, turning into countless slender silver needles.

Whoosh whoosh whoosh.

The whistle of death.

With Joren at the center, the area within a hundred meters became an absolute empty zone.

Any Voidbeast that entered that range, whether a thick skinned Rank One Rockhide Boar or an agile Rank Two Windwolf, was pierced into a sieve in an instant.

Joren stood in the middle of mountains of corpses and seas of blood.

He did not even need to move a finger.

This feeling...

It was almost like being a god.

Northern defense line.

One of the breaches.

Boom!

An alloy tower shield the size of a door slammed into the ground, crushing the skull of a Rank Two Sabertooth Tiger that had tried to pounce forward.

Jazz gasped for breath.

His face, usually hard as stone, was now covered in sweat and blood.

The tower shield in his hand had already warped. Its edges curled, and shocking claw marks covered its surface.

"Alar! Left side is leaking! Cover it!"

Jazz roared, his voice hoarse like two rusted iron plates scraping together.

"Cover my ass! I am out of arrows!"

Not far away, Alar rolled behind an abandoned bunker in a sorry state, narrowly avoiding a lethal wind blade.

One string on his compound bow had already snapped, and the quiver on his back was empty.

Now he held a backup dagger, staring at the beast swarm surging toward them like a tide with despair on his face.

It was brutal.

This was not an ordinary Beast Tide at all.

The intelligence had said ten Rank Four lord class Voidbeasts.

In reality, that number had at least doubled.

Worse, these beasts seemed to have grown smarter. They knew how to cooperate.

The thick skinned ones pushed in front as shields. The fast ones attacked from the flanks. In the back, ranged Voidbeasts spat venom and fireballs to hold the line.

Within half an hour, several holes had been torn through the human defense line.

Kaia’s squad was responsible for plugging the breach under the greatest pressure.

Kaia appeared in midair like a ghost.

The long blade in her hand cut precisely through the throat of a Rank Three Armored Rhinoceros.

Hot blood sprayed over her body.

She had no time to wipe it away.

In her cold eyes, only deep exhaustion and gravity remained.

"We cannot hold!"

Alar shouted.

"Position Four has fallen! Voidbeasts are flanking us from that side!"

Kaia landed and stumbled once.

The continuous high intensity bursts had almost drained her dry.

The defensive squad that had once been at full strength now had only the three of them still holding on bitterly.

All around them were the greedy, violent eyes of Voidbeasts.

"Fall back..."

Kaia gritted the words out.

If they did not retreat now, all of them would die here.

Roar!

A deafening roar suddenly exploded from the ruins on the flank.

It was a sleek leopard type Voidbeast covered in black scales.

Its speed was terrifying, leaving afterimages in the air.

Peak Rank Three.

Shadow Leopard.

This kind of Voidbeast was a born assassin.

And its target was Jazz, who had already exhausted most of his strength and had his back turned to it.

"Behind you!"

As a veteran who had survived countless battles, Jazz reacted fast.

His body moved by instinct, trying to turn and raise the shield.

But in the instant he turned, that claw flashing with cold light was already reaching for his throat.

Fuck.
