Chapter 37: Are You Misunderstanding My Strength?
Buzz!
In a sliver of an instant, a razor sharp sound pierced through the chaos of the battlefield.
The Shadow Leopard was still in midair, claws spread, eyes full of bloodlust.
Then its body froze.
A bloody hole had appeared between its brows.
It did not even have time to scream.
This infamous peak Rank Three Voidbeast dropped straight out of the air like a sack of trash.
Bang!
The corpse crashed beside Jazz’s feet and sent dust rolling outward.
Jazz stayed frozen in his shield raising posture, stiff as a statue.
"Who?!"
Kaia whipped her head toward the direction the attack had come from.
A lean figure walked slowly out through the wind.
His hair was blown into a mess. Around him, six black throwing knives, thin as cicada wings, hovered in silence like obedient spirits.
"Joren?!"
Alar’s voice cracked so high it almost changed shape.
Kaia’s face sank at once. The brief shock in her eyes turned into anger.
"Are you insane?"
"Who let you come here?"
In her mind, that attack could not possibly have been Joren’s doing.
His Talent was high, yes, but he had only just obtained the method to break through Rank One. Even if his cultivation rose like a rocket, early stage Rank One should have been the limit.
On a battlefield where even Rank Two Warriors were cannon fodder, that strength meant nothing.
"Jazz, take him away!"
Kaia pushed Joren, trying to send him toward the rear.
"Insane?"
Joren turned toward the beast swarm surging in like a flood.
Something changed in his eyes.
"Do you have some misunderstanding..."
"About my strength?"
Boom!
Rank Two Psionic Master.
Full output.
The six Nightshade throwing knives hovering beside him vanished into streaks too fast for the naked eye to follow.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh whoosh!
Within fifty meters ahead, more than a dozen Rank Two Voidbeasts charging and roaring forward were cut down in one breath.
Pfft. Pfft. Pfft.
Savage heads rolled across the ground one after another.
Every cut was smooth as polished glass.
And it did not stop there.
Joren raised one hand and curled his fingers in the air, then lifted sharply.
Broken blades, shattered swords, even fragments from exploded shells scattered across the battlefield all rose at once.
Hundreds of metal pieces floated behind him, forming a terrifying wall of metal storm.
"Kill."
The metal storm screamed forward.
Like a giant meat grinder, it crashed into the Beast Tide.
The C3 breach, which had been on the verge of collapse, was forcibly cleared into an open space in a single moment.
Kaia watched it happen.
This was...
A Rank One Warrior?
This was the new recruit she needed to protect?
The ability Joren had just shown had already gone beyond the range of a Rank One Psionic Master.
"Rank Two... Psionic Master?"
As a captain of Antares Command, Kaia understood better than anyone what those words meant.
The ranking of Psionic Masters was extremely strict.
A Rank One Psionic Master could control objects, but both range and power were limited. Most could only serve as support.
Rank Two was different.
That was a true leap.
Within a hundred meters, everything became their domain.
Inside that domain, a Rank Two Psionic Master was a king holding life and death in his hand.
"Now is not the time to stand around."
Joren’s calm voice cut through the noise.
"The breach is still open. Plenty of beasts left."
The metal storm circling behind him seemed to receive some kind of command.
In an instant, it condensed into a huge metal spear ten meters long.
"Go."
The word left Joren’s lips.
The metal spear tore through the air.
A dozen Rank Two Windwolves blocking its path did not even manage to cry out before the terrifying kinetic force ground them into a spray of blood.
The spear kept going.
It slammed into the chest of a Rank Three Armored Rhinoceros and nailed its massive body to a broken concrete wall in the distance.
"Joren! Watch out!"
Kaia suddenly cried out.
From within the dark mass of the Beast Tide, a terrifying aura was approaching at shocking speed.
The ground shook.
The low level Voidbeasts that had been attacking madly seemed to sense the pressure of something above them. They scattered to both sides in fear.
The dust thinned.
A huge creature two stories tall slowly entered everyone’s sight.
Dark golden scales covered its body. Each scale looked like a small shield.
On its head, a horn a full meter long slanted toward the sky, faint lightning flickering at the tip.
Rank Four lord class Voidbeast.
Golden Armored Rhino King.
This monster was a nightmare for any defense line. Special armor piercing rounds could only splash sparks across its body.
Every charge from it could easily smash through a defensive bunker.
"Rank Four..."
Kaia’s Vital Force was already nearly empty.
Jazz and Alar were at the end of their strength.
Against a Rank Four lord in peak condition, the three of them together would not even be enough to fill the gaps between its teeth.
"Fall back! I will hold it!"
Kaia ripped the long blade from her back. A ruthless resolve entered her eyes.
She was the captain.
In Antares Command’s regulations, the captain was always the last to leave.
Even if that meant death.
Joren not only failed to retreat, he stepped forward instead.
Then he turned and gave Kaia a bright smile.
"Stop trying to die every time something happens."
"This beast looks expensive."
"Leave it to me."
Kaia froze.
Leave it...
To him?
Even if he was a Rank Two Psionic Master, killing above his rank at Rank Three should already be the limit.
"Do not mess around! You will die!"
Kaia tried to rush forward and pull him back, only to find an invisible wall of Mental Force blocking her path.
Gentle.
Firm.
It pushed her toward the rear.
"Watch her."
Joren’s voice dropped, carrying a force that allowed no refusal.
He turned back toward the Golden Armored Rhino King, which was roaring hard enough to shake the battlefield.
The beast lowered its body.
Its thick limbs stomped against the ground.
The earth burst apart.
That massive body became a dark golden streak, crashing toward Joren with the force of a collapsing mountain.
The air was compressed in front of it, screaming under the pressure.
A hundred meters disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Joren finally took his hands out of his pockets.
His right hand gripped the Black Gold blade.
His left hand closed on empty air.
The six Nightshade throwing knives circling around him vanished at once.
Silent Flight, full activation.
He charged straight toward the Golden Armored Rhino King bearing down on him like a mountain.
[Talent: Lithe Form active effect, Windriding!]
His speed rose to the limit in an instant.
Just as both sides were about to collide, Joren’s body bent backward in a strange arc.
He slid almost flat against the ground.
Now.
The explosive force of a Rank Two Warrior, combined with the killing intent of Mortal Perfection [Antares Bladecraft], erupted completely.
"Cut!"
Joren gripped the blade with both hands.
[Solar Crucible Method] ran madly inside him.
Vital Force boiled like a furnace.
The Black Gold blade struck with perfect precision into the gap between the armor plates on the Golden Armored Rhino King’s abdomen.
The weakest point in its entire defense.
Using the momentum of his slide, he pulled through.
A massive gash several meters long opened across the Rhino King’s belly.
Steaming organs and blood poured out at once, dyeing half the ruins red.
Awooo!
The Golden Armored Rhino King released a scream sharp enough to tear the sky.
Its massive body twisted violently from the pain, but its momentum carried it onward, smashing straight into a broken building behind it.
Rumble!
The entire building collapsed, burying the beast under rubble.
One slash.
He had gutted that thing open?
