Chapter 151: Preparing For Visits
It was after class, and the Generals at the academy were hard at work, going over grade averages, planning events, sorting out paperwork, and more. That was when the three Generals all received a call from the current Head General herself. Immediately, they all accepted, and Duke, Nathan, and Mike joined a group call.
On their screens, the face of the Head General appeared, and she looked like her usual strict faced self.
"I have important news regarding Jack Truedream’s visit," the Head General began, "Duke, he has decided to arrive until later in the year. From what I gather, he is hoping to see how the students perform in the upcoming event before his official visit."
Internally, Duke was both relieved, but also annoyed. Whenever Jack Truedream visited, it was always a stressful time, but it also meant that all of his stress over making his preparation so soon was for naught.
She continued, "On the topic of the upcoming event, Mike, what is its progress?"
Mike opened a tab on his computer, and double checked the information on it, "Everything is under control. We still have a leeway of a month before the event. Students will be able to choose which events they want to participate in soon. I’m sure that we’ll come out on top this year, I know we will."
Then, he laughed, proud of himself.
The Head General nodded, "There is another matter to discuss."
She had to pause, looking off to the side before returning her gaze, "The next upcoming portal outing will not be a green portal, but an orange portal planet.
Nathan’s eyes widened, "Ma’am, this is crazy! They’re only first-year students. Why do we need to push them so fast?!"
"There are reports that the dalki are becoming more aggressive, and we’ve already experienced two attacks within the past 6 months. We must compete to match their aggressiveness," She said, maintaining her stone cold gaze, "Humanity must not fall, and to ensure this, even our children must learn how to fight."
"How will they learn how to fight if they are going to die before they are ready?" Nathan shot back.
"I would not have suggested this if I wasn’t aware of the risks. The dalki will wage war soon whether we like it or not, and this is the only way to get our future generation prepared as soon as possible. If we don’t, there won’t be a future."
Then, with a deep breath she added, "I give you permission to send Sergeants with them to ensure their safety, but otherwise, that is it. This is an order. Do not defy it."
Nathan felt the urge to speak, he had to argue against it or else he would risk sending the students to a slaughter. He opened his mouth, about to challenge her, when she spoke first.
"Do not make this any harder," she said between her teeth.
Instantly, Nathan shut up. Even if he was given a command by someone higher than the Head General, like the Supreme Commander, it would still be difficult to go through with it.
Historically, first year students would only be allowed to be sent to green portal planets. They only contained basic and intermediate tier beasts, making it optimal for students to learn how to hunt with minimal risk.
Orange portal planets were more dangerous. Even though they had shelters, the entire planet wasn’t fully explored, meaning that there was always the risk of an unknown powerful beast making itself known at the worst time possible.
Only second years were allowed to go on orange portal planets, but only toward the end.
"Before I go, Mike, I need you to arrive at military base 1 as soon as possible to heal someone of great importance," the Head General said.
Initially in a good mood, Mike’s smile fell. He couldn’t help but wonder if this was at all related to one of the recent dalki attacks.
With that done, the Head General dismissed the call, leaving Mike confused. He was a busy General, and was already in charge of preparing the upcoming event. Not only that, but why him specifically? He had the healing ability, sure, but there were plenty of more qualified individuals. His niece, Hayley, for example, was a highly trained doctor, but he was the General in charge of inter base communications.
’I’ll inform Hayley about this, just in case,’ Mike thought, but the constant thought about why she wouldn’t request her own daughter made him concerned. Was she trying to protect her?

Due to their familial connection, Erin was able to sense that Layla was nearby. By playing hot and cold, the two were able to find each other rather quickly.
"There you are!" Layla called out, running towards her roommate, "Where have you been?"
Erin ran up to her as well, glad to finally be in company she actually enjoyed.
"It was another ’love interest’ that tried to confess to me again," Erin replied.
Layla lightly grimaced, "I’m judging from your reaction that it went as well as all the other times."
Instead of responding, Erin kept quiet.
"Let’s just head to Logan’s room."
Layla agreed, and they headed back to the military academy.
—
Logan was focusing intensely upon his latest project, completely forgetting about the time, when the sound of knocking on his door had startled him out of it. Quickly checking his tracking device, it stated that Erin was nearby and he commanded his door to open.
"Hello, Erin," Logan said as he turned around in his chair.
Layla waved with a faint smile, "Hi! ... Again."
Erin walked up to Logan, noting the box next to him, "Do you have the armor made?"
Logan nodded, and soon, several small spider robots crawled over his floor, and table to remove the armor. Then they combined together to create a crude human figure the height of Erin.
"I was initially going to send it to you yesterday, but it appeared in my sleepiness, I had overlooked asking for specifications," Logan said, turning towards the figure, "I was going to wait until you visited to get further information about what it is you wanted, but I am sure you are well aware why that didn’t happen."
Erin placed her hand on her chin, examining the armor in front of her. So far, it looked to be a simple black wetsuit, except it clearly wasn’t made for swimming. An early work in progress.
"So, how will you want it made? I’ll get it done within a day."
