Chapter 152: New Armor

Now that Erin was properly looking at the base of the armor, she was thinking about how exactly she wanted it to be made. Realizing this was going to take a while, Layla headed over to the gaming pod off at the back.

"While you two work on that, I’ll continue practicing with the shadow ability," Layla said with a soft smile, then got inside.

Once the door closed, Erin began making her requests.

"I need it to fully cover up my skin, and make sure no sunlight touches it," Erin began, "and make sure it covers my face."

Logan nodded, and the spiders began crawling all over the model, making adjustments on the spot. They stitched cloth over the hands, the feet, and even on the head. However, when looking at the figure even more, it appeared to have slightly slimmer proportions to her own body. If she put on the armor as it was now, it was going to be skin tight.

Squinting her eyes, she pointed at different spots on the model, "Add more cloth there. Make it loose."

"I will need to add more crystals, but thankfully I prepared for this."

Just then, the mechanical spiders took out a specialized container, one with a clear casing, that held several melted crystals. Once the spiders opened the top of the container, they began integrating the crystals into the cloth armor, and several other spiders stitched more fabric on top. It appeared to be a complicated process, one that Erin was not familiar with.

"In case you were wondering, I am well versed with the usage of beast crystals, and many of my contraptions are powered by them anyways. The fusion process I am using is also one of a kind," he said, proud of himself.

Erin listened. It seemed to be quite important information to keep in mind when asking either Logan or Asahi for beast gear. There were bound to be pros and cons when asking them to make something.

"What should I do about the face?" Logan asked.

The figure’s head wasn’t covered at all, but he commanded a few spiders to start blinking around that area, making it appear like a ski mask.

"This is the most amount of cloth I can cover up the face without blocking your vision, or your breathing."

Erin examined the headpiece, and recalled how she was able to fight in the sunlight so long as she had an umbrella over her head. It gave her the mental image of wearing an umbrella hat during the day, which, as much as she didn’t care about appearances, did care about looking ridiculous.

’I’ll just go with a hood,’ Erin thought.

After talking, and testing out several concepts, the two were able to get into a comfortable rhythm about the armor. The idea of what to do with the eyes came up, as well as the mouth, and they came to the conclusion of just letting the eyes be exposed, and let the mouth be retractable like a bug’s mandibles.

"Are you taking inspiration from my robot bugs?" Logan questioned, "If you are, I may have to sue you."

Erin’s body froze. Logan was not the kind of person to joke, so the threat seemed genuine.

Then, he smiled, "Relax you baby, it was just a joke."

Despite this, Erin didn’t laugh.

After a long day of work shopping the armor, getting the proportions right, the details finished, and more, the two took a step back, and admired their work.

"Now I do have to warn you," Logan began, "Although expensive metals were used when making this, there is a limit to how much it can endure. It will fare well against intermediate weapons. Anything stronger than that will damage it."

"That’s better than my last armor," Erin noted.

Thinking about it, despite the current armor in front of her being basic tier, her old chest piece was basic tier as well, and it was damaged when faced with an intermediate sword. It made her wonder how, despite the two armor pieces being at the same tier, they couldn’t handle the same amount of damage.

’Why is that?’ Erin thought.

"It could be as Logan said," the system started, "The armor in front of you was made using more expensive metals than your old armor, and the boy can afford those materials. That Asahi forger must not be able to afford the good stuff."

This was another point of consideration Erin was going to take when buying beast gear in the future. Purchasing from Logan would be fast, and provide more durable beast clothes, but could he make beast weapons with active skills?

Using the inspect skill on the armor, she found that there weren’t any skills, but it was to be expected with basic tier beast gear.

"Logan, how skilled at forging are you?" Erin said, crossing her arms.

"That depends. In terms of speed, I am incredibly skilled, but I assume you mean how well I can imbue beast gear with skills, correct?"

Logan leaned back in his chair, "I consider myself an inventor, not a forger, so I find making weapons quite tedious and boring. This is in part because my creations do not have active skills, but I am aware why this is the case. Despite technology being advanced as it is today, we still require forgers to make all gear by hand due to this very reason."

"If you know anything about forging, you’d know my techniques do not utilize physical contact like other forgers do," Logan stated, then pointed at the tube behind him, "But that is enough about forging."

It was a peculiar bit of information, but she didn’t really have any use for it. Logan seemed happy enough to explain it anyways.

"Now how much will it cost?" Erin asked, having expected this to be the case.

"Nothing. No amount of money you give me will earn me more money than the amount I can get in a minute," Logan replied.

Erin blinked. For her, she had more than enough money to pay for some good quality beast gear, but it was nice to not have to pay something every now and then.

"But... If you wanted to pay me back, then go in there," he said, pointing at the large tube behind him, "I’m sure you do not need another reminder.

Glancing at it, she stepped inside of the machine again, and, without wasting another word, used her shadow ability again. This time, she was using shadow equip, and yet another skill was recorded.

After a while of practicing her shadow ability, she decided to look at the ones she hadn’t unlocked yet. She had 10 skill points to spend it on something cheap, and there was one thing she could afford.
