Chapter 150: Important Information

Erin stared at the boy, trying to recall just who he was.

’It’s this guy again. What’s his name? Locke?’

"I believe his name was Luke," The system dryly commented.

Erin silently groaned. Sometimes she wished the system would stop back seating her conversations.

"I’m in a bit of a hurry," Erin bluntly responded.

"Now, that’s a rude way to talk to someone who generously gifted you so many crystals," the system pointed out.

"It’s something that can’t wait," Luke said, then glanced down at his watch, "Crap, if we don’t go now, then we won’t make it in time!"

Erin sighed, "Fine, I’ll go with you, but make it quick."

Luke nodded, "Of course, now come on."

After Layla had another meal from Fex’s fridge, she headed to Logan’s room to practice the shadow ability more. Ever since the fight with Mono, Layla thought that it was best to learn an ability soon, and although she was going to wait until she evolved, getting a head start would help immensely.

’I should let her know where I’m at,’ Layla thought, writing a message to Erin on her watch.

With how Erin seemed to want to keep an eye on her constantly, she thought it was a good practice to keep her updated. It would also double as a way for Erin to know where she was at in case of an emergency.

After knocking, and entering Logan’s room, Layla found the boy was coding away at his computer like usual. Curiously, there was a box on a table next to him.

Leaning over to see what was inside, she found some beast gear inside, "Huh, who’s this for?"

Leaning back in his chair, Logan stretched, and had a pair of arms massage him, "This is for Erin. I told her that the armor would be finished yesterday, but she hasn’t visited recently to pick it up."

"Well, you know why she wasn’t able to drop by sooner," Layla replied.

Another robot arm handed him a sandwich. Glancing at the side of it, Layla found there was a light pink liquid drizzled inside. He took a bite, making her wonder what that strange liquid was.

’Is that... yogurt?’ Layla worried, smelling the scent, ’No, it can’t be— It’s probably just some vitamin mixture, or something.’

After he was done chewing, he continued, "I am aware, but she is strangely in the city right now, which has me confused. She was rather adamant about this armor being made as soon as possible."

"What?!" Layla shouted, "Where is she?"

Touching the top of his computer monitor, Logan closed his eyes, and a map appeared on the screen. There, there was a blinking red dot indicating where Erin was in the city. Just as Logan had stated, she was heading towards the food district.

"Why would she go there? She’s—" Layla was about to say, but then remembered that Logan didn’t know about vampires yet.

"—A cyborg," Logan finished, "Someone like her may not need to eat, and instead get their energy from other sources."

Layla just nodded along, "Uh, yeah, exactly. I’ll go out there to see her myself."

Just as quickly as she arrived, she ran out of the room.

Erin was taken to a really high end restaurant, or at least, as high end as you could get in a city next to a military base, and she couldn’t help but wonder what was so important about arriving here.

Judging by the few people who came and went inside of the building, they were dressed fancily, and had to show a sign of reservation to a pair of guards before they could be let inside.

’Does he know something about my secret? Or is he like Logan, and discovered some important information to give me?’ Erin thought, ’But why here?’

"Can you tell me what’s going on?"

Luke looked back at Erin, then chuckled, "I will tell you once we’re inside, don’t worry."

She eyed Luke suspiciously. If it wasn’t for the fact that she was being taken to a public place, or the fact that she was in a precarious position regarding her secrets right now, then she would’ve left already.

"It’s a bit of a shame we couldn’t get some nice looking clothes right now, we stand out like sore thumbs," Luke joked, "We’re still in our school uniforms."

"Is there something you can only tell me in public?" Erin pressed.

"Well..." Luke awkwardly laughed, "We’re almost there."

Erin’s eyebrows lowered.

’I’ve been in situations like this before, and he was willing to give me all of his crystals,’ Erin thought.

They began walking up to the two guards, and Luke had interlocked his arm with Erin’s.

"Act natural," Luke harshly whispered.

Despite this, she unhooked her arm, and walked normally alongside him.

"I have a reservation for two people," Luke calmly stated, then took out a card from his pocket.

The two guards looked at it, then stepped aside for the two to enter.

Once inside, a waiter seated them at a table with two chairs, and handed them menus. Immediately, Luke picked his up, and searched through the options.

"Hmm, I’m thinking about the double crab salad special, what about you?" Luke asked.

"Huh?!" Erin blurted out, "Isn’t there something important you needed to tell me?"

Luke dropped his menu, and glared at Erin, "There is, now keep quiet!"

Erin looked around, and smelled to see if there were any non humans around, but found nothing.

’Just what is going to happen?’ Erin thought, then a sudden realization hit her, ’Don’t tell me this is an ambush?’

However, it appeared that everyone aside from her and Luke weren’t students, and similarly didn’t carry their weapons with them like the students did. There wasn’t any sense of danger around.

"So, how was your day?" Luke said with an eager smile.

"... Fine," Erin slowly replied.

"Good, good," Luke kept up his smile, "And what do you think? Isn’t this place awesome?"

There was something off about it. It was wide. Too wide, and too eager.

Internally, dread began to set within Erin’s mind. This wasn’t a conversation where she was going to be disclosed important information, it was a date.

Luke’s smile dropped, "... Nothing?"

Erin just glared, not even entertaining the thought of participating further.

That was when Luke’s face contorted into a frown, "You give me nothing after I spent all of this money to book a reservation here? Do you know how much I sacrificed for us to spend time together?"

Erin shot up, about to leave, "To think I followed a stupid lie."

"I wasn’t lying!" Luke stood up, "I’ve been trying to talk to you all school year, but you’re always busy. Now that we finally have some alone time, you don’t want to get to know each other?"

Gritting her teeth, she stomped to the restaurant entrance, and shoved the doors to the side, leaving Luke at the table.

’It’s always the same story,’ Erin bitterly thought, ’First they tell me it’s important, then I get taken somewhere, and it turns out to just be some confession.’

"I do agree that it’s bad, but don’t you think you could’ve let him down more easily?" the system suggested.

’I didn’t tell him to piss himself, so, yes, I did think I let him down easy,’ Erin shot back.

Luke watched her go, but instead of lashing out, or screaming at the female who didn’t appreciate his efforts, his face was deathly still.

"Fine, I suppose I rushed things, it was too soon," he muttered, walking out of the restaurant, "I just need to prove to her why she should say yes."
