Chapter 138: Agent Of Pure?
As Layla and Erin continued to fight, being able to turn the tides despite being outnumbered, the boy with the scarf teleported away.
He suddenly appeared next to a tree, where a tall man named Mono stood.
"You were right!" The scarfed boy exclaimed, "I need to get this to Duke’s attention immediately."
Mono scoffed, "To think you would doubt me, Rojie."
"Well, it is a little unbelievable—" Rojie began, before Mono glared at him.
"... Right away sir."
Rojie disappeared, leaving Mono by the tree.
"It was beneficial for me to keep your secret, Erin. At least, it was at the time," Mono smirked, before walking away.

There was one last person left standing out of the initial group meant to attack them. The girl with the red pig tails had managed to tank the attacks from Layla’s arrows by allowing her hair to get impaled, something that inflicted no pain to her. Readying her fists, and her twin tails, she spat on the ground, prepared to take them on.
The two roommates shared a nod, before Erin thrusted at the girl with her rapier, and she blocked with her hair.
Layla shot 3 arrows at the pig tails girl, forcing her to push Erin away and to use her hair to grab the shots midair. Unfortunately for her, Erin was fast, and before the girl knew it, Erin was right up to her face, eyes glowing red.

[Daze activated]
[Daze unsuccessful]
The girl blinked, the skill not having worked on her, and threw a punch towards Erin with her regular fists.
Gritting her teeth, Erin side stepped the attack, and attempted it again, this time succeeding.
The girl with pig tails froze in shock for a second, allowing Erin to knee her stomach, and shove her to the ground. Once the daze wore off, she clutched her belly in pain.
For good measure, Erin quickly used the influence skill to make her fall asleep, ensuring she wouldn’t get up any time soon.

’My charm is my weakest stat, and it was pretty useful in this fight. It would also do me good to increase my agility. Finally fix it so it’s a round number,’ Erin thought as she allocated the points accordingly.
[Agility: 30] [+5]
[Charm: 11]
As Erin was doing that, Layla thought about how many people they had fought, and had a concerning thought enter her mind. She counted the ones they knocked out, and the moment she finished, her worries became true.
’There were 7 in total right? Why are there only 6 here?’
She opened her mouth, about to express this to Erin, when a pair of adult men in military uniforms suddenly appeared in front of them as if from thin air.
"Erin Heley is under investigation due to potential connections to Pure," The man at the front coldly stated, before gripping the girl by the shoulder and disappearing.

"Wait, she’s not—!" Layla shouted, but the men were already gone.
In one moment, Layla was fighting side by side with Erin, and in the next, she was alone. It happened so fast, she couldn’t even get a word in.
’Crap what do I do?!’ Layla frantically looked around, unsure what or who to go to for this. Who could even do something? And more importantly, what was going on?
Just as she was about to head off somewhere, the scent of another person entered her nose, and she twisted towards its direction.
"It’s been a while, hasn’t it?" Mono sneered, stepping out of some foliage.
The mere sight of him brought a burning fury inside of Layla. Her fists clenching tightly as finger nails dug into skin.
"You, YOU!" Layla pointed at him accusingly, "YOU did something to her!"
She didn’t know why, but her hatred intensified more than she was used to, and the teeth inside of her mouth sharpened.
Mono annoyingly chuckled, "I hadn’t laid a finger on her this time. She’s just going to get investigated about some... concerning behavior I noticed."
Gritting her teeth, Layla ran and lifted Mono up by the collar, a sort of feral look to her eyes.
"Don’t act dumb! What. Did. You. Do?!"
Despite being held in the air, Mono smugly smirked, making Layla want to punch him even more.
"Now what ever could you be doing? If anything, it looks like you’re aiding a potential terrorist. Are we sure you’re not a member of Pure?"
That got Layla to shut up, and dropped him. If her own personal connections to Pure were discovered, it would spell major trouble, and potentially get Erin caught up in it as well.
’Erin... Just buy enough time for me to get help!’
—
A moment after Erin was taken away, she was teleported into a small, dark square room. The only source of light came from a hanging light bulb from above, illuminating a single table with an empty chair, and a hooded woman on the other side. Standing behind her was General Duke, and General Nathan watching her carefully.
The men who teleported Erin saluted before disappearing, finished with their service.
"Why don’t you take a seat, Pure scum?" Duke spat out, "We found out about your little secret."
Nathan glared at Duke, crossing his arms, "We don’t know for sure if she’s part of Pure. Remember? Innocent until proven guilty."
"If you knew what I know, you’d believe me," Duke shot back.
"I do know, actually, you gave me the same briefing," Nathan reminded.

Duke scoffed, "If you’re so adamant that she isn’t part of Pure, then please, let her answer the lady’s questions."
As much as Erin didn’t want to, she had to take a seat. What they were talking about sounded concerning.
The hooded woman glanced at Duke disapprovingly, but held her hand out, "Touch my hand so I can use my ability on you."
Erin hesitated, contemplating everything. Even though she wasn’t with Pure, there was a feeling that there was more to this investigation. They wouldn’t accuse her of something this major if there wasn’t evidence, and it definitely sounded like there was.
’Was something planted?’ Erin thought, ’If so, then by who? Or is it something else entirely?’
Just to be safe, Erin sent a message to Quinn using the system about what her situation was.
"See? She’s not cooperating!" Duke shouted.
"Of course she isn’t, she wasn’t told what this lady’s ability is," Nathan sighed, then turned to Erin, "The woman sitting opposite you has the ability to detect whether someone is telling the truth or not. Now please proceed with her demands, and touch her hand."
"Don’t worry, this system has some pretty neat tricks," The system decided to speak up now of all times.
With no other excuses now, she placed her hands on the lady’s and it began to glow with some sort of energy passing through her. Erin was about to tell the system voice off, when she got a notification message that entered her vision.
[Users mental strength and charm is strong enough to block the ability]
[Would you like to block the ability?]
