Chapter 31: Beast Tide (Part-5)

The warriors from the Flameheart family arrived. Every step they took shook the land as all of them were in perfect sync, and their aura seemed to merge, creating a very powerful, oppressive aura that silenced everyone.

Their number was above five hundred, but everyone’s aura was strong. They were all Blood Seed warriors with deep auras. But what was shocking was the fifteen people wearing silver armour with a burning flame symbol on them.

Max, looking at those fifteen, felt his blood tremble. Every one of their aura was at least as strong as Cassian’s and had a very deep and calm aura. But what made him feel terrified was the three at the front leading the battalion.

All three of them had very calm auras; the vastness in this calm aura easily surpassed others. They were clearly the transformation realm bloodline awakeners.

One of them was someone Max recognised immediately. It was the female captain he had met shortly after entering Flameheart City.

Beside her stood a stern middle-aged man whose blazing aura carried a terrifying killing intent.

The last leader was the most mysterious of them all. A contrasting old man who appeared to be in his fifties and appeared completely harmless, but for some reason he couldn’t feel anything from him.

He couldn’t detect a single trace of blood flow. It was as though the old man didn’t even exist. But because he couldn’t feel anything, this was very terrifying. It just means that the difference between them is so vast that he couldn’t even comprehend the distance between their strength.

While thousands of people were secretly trying to gauge the old man’s strength. The old man suddenly calmly looked back at Max. Their eyes met for only a brief moment.

Then...

The old man simply smiled and looked away. As if nothing had happened.

They arrived at the centre of the eastern gate, which was right behind them. It was at that moment that it was closed down perfectly, but even then they all could feel the trembling of the earth.

The old man slowly stepped forward and then looked around at the people gathered here. Their total number reached about ten thousand.

"Most among you should have received the news; some might have guessed it, and for those who are still in the dark, the city is now facing one of the most cataclysmic events in the last hundred years."

His expression became grave as he held his breath for a moment and said, "And it is none other than the Beast Tide..."

The crowd erupted into chaos. Everyone’s expression changed; the commoners, like mercenaries and travellers.

Until now, many had only suspected the rumours. But hearing the confirmation directly from the Flameheart Family erased all doubt.

Panic instantly spread through the crowd. Everyone knew what a Beast Tide meant.

Death.

Out of every ten people... Nine would never survive such a calamity.

"Calm Down!" The old man’s voice echoed. It was calm yet very powerful, instantly silencing the crowd.

All of them then looked at the old man, who had no armour or looked menacing, yet at that moment a terrifying power within him seemed to make the air heavy.

"I know what you are thinking and feeling. Indeed, Beast Tide is a terrifying calamity that destroys everything, but even in ancient times when humans were weak, they still fought and survived."

His gaze swept across the entire crowd.

"None of you standing here are weak. You are the survivors!"

His voice rang with confidence.

"When this Beast Tide ends..."

"The Flameheart Family will reward every survivor according to their contributions."

"So..."

"Do not fear."

"Fight for survival! Fight for your family and loved ones!"

"Fight for Humanity!"

The crowd immediately seemed to burst with confidence. Max, after hearing this, also felt his blood boiling. And then, quickly, the old man, the commander of the eastern gate battle, without wasting a second, divided the people into different groups.

Before long... Everyone had taken their positions atop the city walls. The walls were broad enough for thousands of warriors to fight side by side.

Standing upon them, Max finally witnessed the incoming Beast Tide with his own eyes. The sea of beasts seemed to cover the land and was about to reach the city within a minute.

All the people were the same; they all saw the horde of menacing beasts coming towards the city with a ferocious aura that seemed to turn the moon in the sky into a crimson moon.

An ocean of savagery, bloodlust, and murderous intent swept across the battlefield. The air itself grew heavy.

Many of those who had only just regained their courage began trembling once more. Some struggled to breathe. Others felt their legs weaken beneath them.

"Don’t worry, we will support you all." The calm, assuring voice of the commander rang out, which seemed to calm them a bit.

Archers held their bows and were ready to shoot, and bloodline awakeners stood in the front to face the beasts that climb up. And behind them were the ordinary soldiers or Blood Seed warriors to take care of the ones that slip through.

This was a better arrangement than what many mercenaries and soldiers expected. Usually, nobles use commoners as cannon fodder, but the Flameheart family didn’t do that and made a proper arrangement.

Max, as a bloodline awakener, was in the front. His left hand was almost healed, and he could now fight without a problem. In just a single day, he had fought battle after battle.

The naive young man who had once lived on Earth was already beginning to disappear.

He wasn’t afraid and was calm as he watched the beast tide reach the archers’ range.

"Every archer ready!!!!"

"Fire!!!!"

SWISSH! SWISSH! SWISSH!!!!!

The arrows rained down like thunderous strikes on the beast tide.

Bang! Bang! Bang!!!!

Instantly, hundreds of beasts died or were heavily wounded as arrows pierced their bodies but it didn’t stop them.

"Fire! Don’t stop!" The commander roared, and the archers fired arrows one after another, slowing them a bit, but it wasn’t enough as the endless horde continued advancing relentlessly.

Finally... The first beasts slammed into the city walls.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The walls trembled slightly, but they remained standing steady like a mountain.

"Everyone ready to face the beasts!"

Max held his spear tightly as one after another, ferocious beasts began climbing the towering walls.

The real battle... Was about to begin.
