Chapter 297: Chapter 295: Name
Chapter 295: Name
"Stay still." No. 444 once again reprimanded when he noticed that the man wanted to back away his body. Healing someone is not an easy task especially if that person is a devil who’s naturally repulsive to his spiritual energy.
Thus out of consideration, he had been sending his power lightly and slowly but even so, how could the two most hostile energies touch each other? It is like trying to collide water and electricity which also resulted in a deadly combination.
The devil pursues his lips tightly and forces his body not to move an inch. The pain is something that he never experienced— excruciating and searing, tormenting him fully to an extent that he never expects.
It truly hurts and it keeps testing his sanity to snap. However, the latter’s cold reminder to him was like a cold water splashed on him, drawing his senses back. He immediately pulled himself and felt insulted again. This is the third time that this grim reaper has seen his embarrassment.
The first one was when they met in prison, the second was when he found him escaping and the third one was this scenario. He felt like he already suffered enough humiliation but looking at the latter, his face showed no care, only plain indifference as if what he cares about didn’t matter.
Well, he didn’t even care about those soul’s opinions, what about him?
The devil wanted to scoff to himself but winced when he felt the pain searing again inside him.
"I told you not to move recklessly. Can’t you wait?" the latter scolded him again.
He didn’t answer and lowered his eyes. Even if it was slow, he could indeed feel the wounds on his body gradually heals. As he observed, his eyes also landed on those slender palms still covering the back of his hand. Both of them are from the underworld and their bodies are naturally cold and void of life.
No. 444’s hand felt cold and icy.
Even though he doesn’t interact himself much with outsiders, he knew that this is very normal for everyone here. They’re not like humans whose bodies are warm and delicate. They have no ’life’.
As a devil, he also has his encounters with humans outside especially when dealing with them. This grim reaper’s body is the complete opposite to them.
But what he couldn’t understand is why he seems to care about it? Why is he thinking this way anyway? He lightly shook his head to throw that thought in his mind and just focused on holding back his body to avoid embarrassing himself again.
Later, he had no other choice but to just silently follow him again. This time, he learned from what happened last time and just ultimately shut his mouth.
It was only after he was called by the Judge that he could finally ask what’s been bothering him.
"Why are you doing this?" he directly asked the Judge whose silhouette is only visible in front of him. "What’s the reason why I must follow that grim reaper?"
Yet rather than answering him, the Judge seems to have other intentions.
"Yin,"
The devil was stunned. After such a long time, this is the first time that he ever heard that name again— or rather, his name.
Yin, the name of the devil that conquered many of his enemies, turning them into his subordinates to do things for him whether to create chaos or just merely do something fun for him. He was known for his ruthlessness and sharp temperament, cold-bloodedness and even for his outstanding appearance that if not for his strength, there’ll be many admirers flocking in front of him.
However this name was also gradually forgotten because he intentionally pulled himself out of everyone’s prying eyes. He didn’t like any attention to him and only wanted to strengthen himself. Who would have thought that only a small incident happened and he was captured and his strength restricted? Furthermore, he was even demoted to a grim reaper’s following, becoming a follower that’s more invisible than ever.
Such a disgrace but he has no choice.
He just couldn’t understand why of all the punishments, they actually just wanted him to follow someone.
"How’s your time following No. 444?" The Judge asked instead of answering him. He snapped back to his senses and answered lazily.
"Nothing." That’s really what he could honestly say. Other than fighting and sending souls, that grim reaper didn’t know anything to do. Not even saying resting is accurate but just merely pausing a bit and going back again.
He couldn’t help but feel curious. "Are your grim reapers like that?"
"Of course not. It’s probably only him who wants to work like that." Luckily the Judge quickly defeated himself, stating that he didn’t require any strict rules on working for them.
"Then just tell me the reason why I have to follow him?"
The Judge cleared his throat. "Being captured and having that restricted curse, you have no choice but to follow my rules."
He exhales. "And your rules are what?"
"I want you to help No. 444 change."
He frowned. "What changes are you talking about?"
"I know you knew his nature of overworking himself. It’s not that I am saying that this behavior is bad. What I want is for him to change his approach to the souls." The Judge explained. "His way of dealing with them is very forceful and not right. As a grim reaper, it is not only his duty to send them here but also to fulfill the soul’s wish. He has to consider their feelings and emotions too."
His brow raised. "So?"
"I want you to make him realize that."
"...." He was speechless. He wanted him to change that grim reaper? Even he himself doesn’t care about the latter’s approach in his job. He doesn’t care if those souls were treated right and just. And now he’s telling him to ’soften’ No. 444?
That’s absolutely ridiculous!
A devil teaching a grim reaper how to feel empathy and emotions? Totally absurd!
He felt the Judge was fooling him.
"And what if I don’t?"
"Simple. I’ll make you weaker until you cannot escape from your enemies next time."
He grit his teeth in anger. That’s absolutely another humiliation for him!
He exhales a loud breath and doesn’t even bother to answer. He just turned around and walked away in anger.
Meanwhile, when everything went back to silence, a subordinate couldn’t help but ask the Judge.
"Your Majesty, if changing No. 444’s behavior is your concern, wouldn’t it be better for someone who knows how to feel and express to help him?" A devil who’s more crueler than the grim reaper, what kind of empathy can he teach No. 444?
"A grim reaper is born with nothing, even a heart. But that doesn’t mean he can’t." The Judge was in a good mood to answer.
"Same as the devil. A heart is still a heart. It beats— it also aches and feels warm."
