Chapter 249: Chapter 249 - Chased!

Theo’s eyes shot wide open.

Without even thinking, he threw himself out of the sleeping bag and rushed outside.

"Where?!"

Feng never looked away from the desert.

"Underground!"

Theo’s face instantly lost all color.

At the same time, Owen, Jim, Lyra, and Iris burst from their tents, fully awake after hearing Feng’s shout.

The trembling beneath their feet only continued to intensify.

"Everyone!" Theo roared.

He pointed toward Feng, whose body was already rapidly expanding.

"Get on Feng! Now!"

None of them hesitated for even a second.

By the time they reached Feng, the Galehorn Unicorn had returned to its full size.

The four of them immediately climbed onto its back.

"Contractor!"

Theo didn’t hesitate for even a fraction of a second.

He abandoned every piece of equipment they’d unpacked and leapt onto Feng’s back.

"Fly!"

BOOM!!

The instant Feng shot into the sky, the ground beneath their campsite began sinking away.

A massive sinkhole swallowed the tents, campfire, and supplies in the blink of an eye.

’’Go! Go! Go!’’ Theo shouted, his gaze fixed on the ground below.

Only a second later... the desert ground exploded.

An enormous worm-like creature, easily over two hundred yards long, burst from beneath the sand.

Its massive circular mouth was wide open, layer upon layer of countless razor-sharp teeth spinning like a living grinder as it lunged toward the sky.

Theo’s pupils shrank.

"FENG!!!" he shouted. "It’s coming up!"

Feng flapped his wings with everything he had.

Simultaneously, a concentrated gust of wind propelled the unicorn even higher.

Behind them, the massive worm didn’t fall back toward the desert.

Instead, the sand around it suddenly began to move.

Millions upon millions of grains spiraled up around its enormous body.

They twisted together into a massive pillar-like structure, allowing the creature to swim through it into the sky at terrifying speeds.

It wasn’t just Theo whose face paled upon seeing the sight.

’This isn’t something an ordinary B-rank can do,’ he thought grimly. ’It must be about to become an A-rank!’

The worm was quite literally creating a river of sand in the sky, allowing it to chase after them as though gravity didn’t exist.

And worse...

Its giant mouth was gaining on them!

’’Feng!’’ Theo called out. ’’Be prepared, the wind is going to get faster in a second!’’

The unicorn only nodded once.

But that was enough for Theo.

Gray mana burst forth from his hands, flowing toward the green winds below them.

Whoosh!

The wind sped up immensely, shooting them through the sky.

Theo nearly stumbled from the sudden increase, yet did everything he could to maintain the Chaos mana.

’It’s working!’ he thought, clenching his jaw.

The difference in speed had evened out. No, it had even turned slightly in their favor!

Meanwhile, the others could only look on in terror.

’’How long can you keep this up?’’ Owen shouted over the roaring wind.

Theo gritted his teeth and glanced back at him.

’’I have no idea!’’

The answer alone caused everyone’s expressions to sink.

While they might be speeding away now, Theo and Feng’s mana wouldn’t be able to hold on forever.

Meanwhile, the worm didn’t seem to have the slightest issue keeping up with them.

’Fuck, I have to do something!’ Owen thought.

He clenched his fists so tightly that his nails dug into his skin.

Without thinking, earth mana began gathering around his hand.

Chunks of rock rapidly gathered before compressing into a giant warhammer.

’’EAT THIS, DIPSHIT!’’ he shouted, hurling the massive warhammer toward the worm.

At almost the same moment, Jim stepped forward.

A large, concentrated sphere of light mana gathered between his palms.

Only a second later, a blinding beam of light shot toward the beast.

Not wanting to be left behind, Iris thrust both hands forward.

Countless metal shards condensed together, rapidly forming a metal spear the size of a tree.

’’Go!’’ she shouted, sending it flying.

The massive spear tore through the air, following directly behind Jim’s beam and Owen’s warhammer.

BOOM!!!

Jim’s Silver Core spell hit first.

For a moment, the dark sky lit up in a blinding light.

He dragged the beam all over the worm’s body like a laser.

THUD!

Owen’s warhammer slammed into its mouth a moment later.

Several of the creature’s teeth shattered upon impact before stopping it.

At almost the same instant, Iris’s metallic spear pierced deep into the side of its mouth.

SCREEECH!

The worm’s entire body trembled as it released a furious, ear-piercing screech.

’’Fuck!’’ Owen cursed, pressing his hands over his ears.

’We’ve barely even scratched it,’ he thought, clenching his jaw. ’And that only makes this worse!’

For a moment, he couldn’t help but stare helplessly at the creature with one question on his mind.

’Would it have been different if Theo attacked?’ he thought. ’He’d have been able to hurt it far more, right?’

He fell completely silent.

’Am I really... that weak?’

Just then, Feng’s voice snapped him back to reality.

’’CONTRACTOR!’’ the unicorn shouted. ’’It’s gathering mana for an attack!’’

Theo’s heart skipped a beat.

His gaze immediately shot back toward the beast.

Its countless rotating teeth had started glowing a deep crimson.

At the same time, large clumps of metal slammed into each other in front of it.

Dozens of massive, rough metal spheres formed in the air.

Suddenly, the creature released a surge of fire, igniting the metal balls in terrifying yellow flames.

Theo’s face grew even paler.

’’Everyone!’’ he shouted. ’’Hold on!’’

The flaming spheres shot toward them like a meteor shower.

Feng immediately folded one wing.

The unicorn twisted through the sky, narrowly avoiding the first two flaming spheres.

BOOM!

They exploded just above them, raining down molten metal.

Iris and Jim stepped in immediately, forming an ice and metallic shield above them.

But many more spheres shot through the sky toward them.

Feng weaved desperately between the barrage, each dodge narrower than the last.

Theo’s heart pounded as explosions rang out around them.

Yet all he could do was focus completely on his Chaos mana.

’Go,’ he thought, holding his breath. ’We’re almost thro—’

His thoughts froze.

Hidden behind one of the flaming spheres they’d just barely evaded was another flaming sphere, this one several times larger than the last.

And it was heading straight for them.
