Chapter 250: Chapter 250 - Defend!

The gigantic sphere rapidly filled their vision, completely blocking out the sunlight.

There simply wasn’t enough time to dodge.

’I’ll have to cancel my chaos,’ Theo thought, water mana already leaving his body.

’’DON’T!’’ Owen suddenly shouted.

Theo stopped what he was doing, completely caught off guard.

His best friend jumped past him, landing near the end of Feng’s back.

’’I’ll take care of it!" Owen shouted, deep brown and black mana gushing out of his body.

His expression had completely changed, his jaw clenched together as the veins across his body bulged to the surface.

Without wasting a moment, Owen slammed his hands together.

CRACK!

An enormous wall of pitch-black earth formed behind Feng.

The dark rocks slammed into each other time and time again.

Within a heartbeat, the wall had compressed itself into something that resembled a gigantic shield.

Owen’s chest heaved, his eyes wide open.

Only a second later, the massive meteorite slammed into his shield.

BOOOM!

The impact released a massive shockwave, nearly sending Feng tumbling through the air.

But it wasn’t over yet.

BOOOOOM!!!

Only a second later, another large meteorite slammed against the back of the first one.

Cracks immediately began appearing in the shield.

Owen gritted his teeth, the blood vessels in his eyes bursting.

’NOT...’ he shouted internally. ’...YET!’

The cracks rapidly spread across the shield.

Molten metal seeped through them, dripping from the pitch-black earth before hardening in midair.

BOOOOOM!!!

Another massive meteorite suddenly slammed against the back of the first two.

The cracks shot through the shield instantly.

Even so, Owen refused to back down.

Every ounce of mana inside his body poured into the construct.

’’FUCK YOU!" he roared, his mana only growing darker.

Meanwhile, Feng shot forward through the air.

Each shockwave blasted new, extremely powerful winds beneath his wings.

It didn’t take long before they were more than two hundred yards away from Owen’s shield.

’Contractor!’ Feng communicated internally. ’You need to pull back your friend now! We’ve already gotten out of range.’

Theo snapped out of his daze.

He quickly stepped forward and tried to pull Owen back.

Owen’s body refused to budge.

His eyes had turned completely bloodshot, whilst the edges of his fingers had turned dark.

’’Fuck!’’ Theo cursed, staring at his friend in shock. ’’What the hell is happening?!"

Without hesitation, he used far more force and finally pulled Owen back.

Yet, even as they stumbled back, Owen’s arms remained in the exact same position, continuing to channel mana into his shield.

Having no idea what to do, Theo slapped Owen across his face.

BAM!

’’You can stop!’’ Theo shouted. ’’We’re already safe!’’

As if hearing the magic words, Owen’s body suddenly went limp.

The black traces around his fingers disappeared in an instant and he collapsed.

Lyra and Jim immediately stepped forward.

’’We’ll take care of him!’’ Jim said, glancing up. ’’You need to use your chaos element!’’

Theo nodded and let go of Owen.

His gaze snapped back up instantly, locking onto the giant worm still gliding through the sand in the distance.

’It stopped using that fusion attack,’ he thought. ’But it doesn’t look like it’s giving up.’

Without another thought, Theo quickly continued channeling chaos mana.

The green wind behind Feng lit up once more, blasting it through the sky.

Each passing second, the distance between them and the worm continued increasing bit by bit.

’Just give up...’ he thought, gritting his teeth.

’’Contractor!" Feng’s voice suddenly rang out. ’’It’s preparing another attack!’’

Theo’s heart skipped a beat.

His eyes immediately widened as he turned back to the worm.

A bright yellow light spread all around its mouth.

It continued growing brighter and brighter, lighting up the entire sky.

’’What the...’’ Theo muttered, his eyes as wide as they could be.

’’That thing has a hint of dragon blood inside it,’’ Feng said hurriedly. ’’And that attack is most definitely a dragon’s breath!’’

For a moment, everything went completely silent.

That was the very last thing Theo had wanted to hear.

’’If you can block it for even a second,’’ Feng continued. ’’I’ll be able to evade the rest.’’

Theo nodded right away.

’’I’ll do my best.’’

Glancing back at the massive worm, his heart kept pounding faster.

Even after several seconds, it hadn’t released its breath.

’It’s only growing stronger!’ he thought, sucking in a deep breath. ’I’ll have to use everything I have.’

He canceled his chaos spell and closed his eyes.

This beast was on a completely different level from the ice serpent he’d blocked before.

His mind ran through countless options, unsure which to choose.

’Water wouldn’t work due to the strength difference,’ he thought. ’Lightning isn’t a good option either...’

That left just his chaos element.

But he knew damn well a normal Chaos Door wouldn’t stand a chance against the attack.

Theo’s eyes snapped open.

’’I’ll just have to change it then,’’ he said, taking a step forward.

Gray mana quickly began gathering before him in massive amounts.

Unlike before, he didn’t allow it to spread out.

He compressed as much Chaos mana together as possible, forming a single sphere.

Mana continued pouring out of him, making the sphere larger and larger.

Theo’s breathing grew heavier.

’More...’ he thought, clenching his jaw. ’I need more!’

The sphere began flickering as it continued growing.

Suddenly, its shape began changing with each flicker.

From a sphere, to a triangle, to a cube, and finally... to an enormous door.

Unlike the one he’d made before, this one looked ancient.

Its surface was covered in cracks and countless strange markings that slowly shifted across it as though they were alive.

Even Theo stared at it in disbelief.

’What...?’

He felt his mana drain at insane speeds as the gate continued becoming clearer.

Far in the distance, the giant worm had finally stopped charging its attack.

Its enormous mouth slowly opened to the absolute limit.

Then, the yellow light inside became blinding, almost like a second sun had appeared.

BOOOOOOOM!!!!

A massive beam of fire tore through the sky at lightning speed.

The air itself trembled and distorted wherever it passed.

Theo raised both hands, sending all the mana he had toward the gate.

’Please...’ he thought.

The center of the ancient Chaos Door suddenly rippled.

Theo’s eyes widened.

Before he could react, a gigantic gray hand reached out of the door.

Long black chains were wrapped around its wrist, only allowing it to extend a short distance outside.

As the hand came to a stop, its fingers slowly spread open.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!

The dragon’s breath crashed into the waiting hand.

The moment it made contact, the flames began shuddering violently.

Suddenly, the beam’s shape began changing.

It twisted into ribbons, then a large rope, before becoming a beam once more.

Theo’s pupils shrank upon seeing the sight.

’It’s holding!’

The gigantic hand slowly tightened its grip.

The dragon’s breath visibly struggled, writhing between its fingers like a living creature.

Then, the hand casually dragged the beam away before turning it back towards the worm.

BOOOOOOM!!!

Only a small section of the dragon’s breath had been redirected.

Yet, the moment it collided with the continuing beam, an explosion unlike anything they’d ever witnessed erupted high in the sky.

A violent shockwave tore outward in every direction.

’’FENG!’’ Theo shouted, holding on with all the strength he had remaining.

The Galehorn Unicorn reacted immediately.

Instead of resisting the incoming force, it spread both wings wide.

WHOOSH!!!

The shockwave slammed into Feng’s wings, sending it soaring through the sky at unbelievable speeds.

Theo’s fingers dug into the unicorn’s fur as the world around him and his friends blurred.

WHOOSH!!!

A secondary shockwave suddenly struck Feng from behind.

The Galehorn Unicorn responded instantly, angling its wings down ever so slightly.

Like a falling meteorite, they continued through the sky.

Above them, the dragon’s breath continued blasting through the sky.

After the redirected beam had disappeared, it continued dozens of yards above their heads, continuing far into the distant horizon.

Theo slowly glanced behind them.

The enormous creature still floated within the sea of sand several miles behind them.

Its mouth was slowly losing its yellow glow as it stopped its attack.

Now... it simply looked at them.

For several long seconds, nothing happened.

Finally, the giant worm slowly lowered its head.

The sea of sand around it began curving towards the ground.

And within moments, the worm completely disappeared into the ground.

Everyone held their breaths as the ground trembled faintly.

Several long seconds ticked by.

Finally, the trembling completely faded away.

’’It’s... given up,’’ Feng said slowly.

For a brief moment, nobody said a word.

The only sound left was the steady beating of Feng’s wings as they continued soaring through the sky.

Theo remained frozen.

His eyes were still fixed on the place where the giant worm had disappeared beneath the sand.

’We actually made it...’

The realization slowly sank in.

They had just escaped a beast that had been only a step away from the A-rank.
