Chapter 248: Chapter 248 - B-rank Creature?!

As the sun had completely disappeared from the sky, an ice-cold wind began blowing through the desert.

Theo slowly looked around.

’’We’ll have to stop here for the night,’’ he said, glancing back.

Owen gritted his teeth and kicked the sand.

’’Fuck!’’ he shouted.

’’It’s alright,’’ Lyra quickly calmed him down. ’’I’m sure we’ll get somewhere tomorrow.’’

But it wasn’t just Owen who was frustrated with the situation.

Both Iris and Jim held dark expressions on their faces.

’’I don’t like this feeling,’’ Iris said quietly. ’’Walking around like headless chickens... it just feels wrong.’’

No one actually knew how far they were from civilization.

Walking for hours was fine.

But now that they had reached their first night here, hope had slowly begun fading.

Theo nodded slowly, knowing exactly how they felt.

Despite that, as the acting leader, he needed to keep their motivation up.

’’All the more reason to get a good night of sleep,’’ he said. ’’Panic and doubt will only lead us further into the unknown.’’

The others nodded, though the frustration was still clear on their faces.

They knew that as long as they kept walking, they’d find something eventually.

But whether that was a day, a week, or even a month away? Or if they’d even be alive to make it that far?

None of them knew.

’’Tomorrow, we’ll set off on Feng to start us off,’’ Theo continued calmly. ’’It should bring us a lot closer to our goals.’’

Before anyone could say a word, a faint flash of light appeared.

They blinked once, only to find two large tent bags lying on the ground.

But Theo wasn’t done yet.

Foldable chairs and tables followed, together with sleeping bags and enough stuff to make a proper meal.

Silence fell over the group.

Their mouths hung open slightly while their eyes had widened.

After a moment, Owen slowly rubbed his forehead.

’’I’m not even going to ask anymore,’’ he said, still stupefied.

Jim also let out a helpless laugh.

’’At this point, you might as well pull out an entire house,’’ he said, shaking his head at the ridiculousness.

’’No, no,’’ Theo replied with a smile. ’’That’s a little too much.’’

Without another word, he picked up one of the tent bags and tossed it to Jim.

’’I’ll do this one,’’ he said, pointing down. ’’You do that one.’’

Owen let out a faint chuckle, smirking as he looked at Jim.

But before he could say anything, several wooden logs appeared out of thin air.

’’Owen, you can light the fire,’’ Theo called out, not even looking at him.

Owen stared at the logs for a moment.

Then he pushed himself off the ground with a deep sigh.

’’Fine,’’ he mumbled, massaging his aching legs for a moment.

Before long, they had a completely functioning camp set up.

Hell, Lyra had even started to cook for them!

It didn’t take long before the smell of grilled meat spread throughout the camp.

Despite the gloomy mood from earlier, everyone’s attention gradually shifted toward the food cooking over the fire.

Owen was naturally the first to lose his patience.

Just as he reached toward one of the skewers, Lyra lightly slapped the back of his hand.

’’Wait until it’s done.’’

Owen grumbled something under his breath but finally gave up.

A few minutes later, Lyra handed everyone a plate.

The group dug in almost immediately.

’’This is amazing...’’ Theo muttered after swallowing.

’’I told you,’’ Owen said proudly, patting his belly. ’’Why do you think I’ve fattened up?’’

Jim frantically nodded in agreement.

’’Seriously,’’ he said. ’’I wasn’t expecting this at all.’’

Even Iris looked pleasantly surprised.

’’Where did you learn to cook like this?’’

Lyra paused for a brief moment before taking another bite herself.

’’I didn’t really have much choice,’’ she answered calmly. ’’I don’t exactly have a family, so if I wanted decent food growing up, I had to make it myself.’’

Swallowing another bite, Owen immediately spoke up.

’’It definitely paid off,’’ he said, raising his fork with a smile.

Jim and Iris also nodded, large smiles on their faces.

Theo only stared at her for a moment before lowering his gaze to his plate.

’Without family, huh,’ he thought. ’I guess that’s one of the things you just have to learn then.’

Remembering his own parents, he couldn’t help but be grateful.

’I really was fortunate.’

By the time the plates were empty, the frustration from earlier had eased considerably.

Theo slowly stood up from his chair, raising his hand slightly.

’’I’ll be back in a minute,’’ he said lightly.

The others only nodded, waiting for Lyra to cook the next few skewers.

Walking behind one of the tents, Theo sat down in the sand.

He remained silent as his gaze slowly drifted to the sky above.

There... millions upon millions of stars lit up the dark sky.

Without the light pollution of civilization, it was unlike anything he’d ever seen before.

For a few minutes, he remained completely silent.

Eventually, he glanced back down with a complicated expression.

’As much as I want to keep enjoying the view,’ he thought. ’I hope we really aren’t too far from civilization.’

They could afford to lose a week, maybe even two or three.

But after that, their mission would become much harder or even fall through entirely.

’Surviving until we reach a city is another story too,’ he thought, clenching his fist.

Time passed slowly after that.

After another meal, they began retiring to their sleeping bags one by one.

Theo entered his tent last, ready to sleep himself.

Only Feng remained quietly outside, still floating atop his emerald cloud.

Its eyes continued scanning the darkness while focusing on even the faintest tremors in the surrounding wind mana.

Everything gradually fell silent outside.

Minutes passed, which turned into hours.

After four hours, Feng’s eyes slowly began widening.

Its emerald cloud froze in mid-air, its gaze fixed in one direction.

’Is that?’

A faint vibration spread through the sand.

Theo’s eyes snapped open inside his tent, a strange feeling creeping up his spine.

It rapidly started growing stronger.

’’CONTRACTOR!’’

Feng’s voice echoed throughout the entire campsite.
