Chapter 159: Chapter 162: Sonia Quincy Wants to Solve It Herself
"Sonia!" Felix Preston reached out and grabbed her, his brow tightly furrowed. "Where are you going?"
Sonia Quincy’s reaction was placid. "I’m going downstairs to handle this."
Felix Preston walked over to her on his crutch, his eyes filled with nothing but heartache and worry. "You don’t even owe them money, so what is there to handle? Just stay put and don’t go running off. I’ll call the police right now."
"It’s no use," Sonia Quincy said calmly. "The police can’t guard us forever. If we want to get rid of them for good, I’m the only one who can face them."
"No!" Felix Preston tightened his grip on her hand, adamantly refusing to let her go downstairs. "There are so many of them. There’s no way I’m letting you go down there to face them alone."
Sonia Quincy said, "Then get me some bodyguards. Find a few trustworthy people to go with me, okay?"
"...Sonia!" Felix Preston was exasperated by her stubbornness, so agitated he could barely keep his balance on his crutch.
But Sonia Quincy still had the heart to smile at him.
"Felix Preston, running away won’t solve anything. As long as you’re willing to trust me, I’m confident I can resolve this perfectly."
Felix Preston stared intently into her eyes and said anxiously, "I trust you. I absolutely trust you! As long as you say it’s not true, I can make all the doubt disappear."
"But Sonia, the situation right now is just too dangerous. You can’t show yourself to them."
Sonia Quincy replied, "I can. Because they’ll only shut up if I show up."
"You..." Felix Preston was so furious he wished he could just knock Sonia Quincy out with his crutch and make her stay home quietly instead of running around.
"Felix Preston." Sonia Quincy grasped his hand in return, her tone firm and unquestionable. "Get some people for me. I have to go downstairs and settle this today."
"..." Felix Preston let out a heavy breath, utterly speechless.
He knew Sonia Quincy’s temper and understood her personality. Once she set her mind to something, no one could change it.
Not even Felix Preston.
Felix Preston understood. She wanted to prove her innocence and restore peace to their home.
His trust was her motivation, but it couldn’t replace her determination.
Besides finding people to protect her, there was nothing else he could do now.
He didn’t say a word. He just reached out, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and pulled her firmly into his embrace while taking out his phone to call Evan Yates.
Evan Yates just said, "Okay," and hung up.
"Thank you." Sonia Quincy nestled in Felix Preston’s arms, her eyes closed as she smiled faintly.
Felix Preston shook his head, not saying a word.
Evan Yates was fast. In less than half an hour, he arrived with his men and had Miranda Morgan’s male models surrounded.
Felix Preston had originally wanted to go downstairs with Sonia Quincy to face them, but she had refused, dead set on leaving him at home.
He couldn’t win against her, so he could only see her into the elevator before hobbling on his crutch to the balcony to keep a constant watch on the situation downstairs.
Evan Yates had brought twelve people. Four were employees from his studio, six were his buddies from the streets, and the other two were old acquaintances—
Miles Kendrick and Jasper Linden.
The men Evan Yates brought were generally tall and brawny, and their appearance alone intimidated the scrawny male models.
Afraid of getting beaten up, the male models unconsciously switched their shouting to grumbling.
"What do you think you’re doing? Looking for a group fight?" Miranda Morgan asked, craning her neck defiantly.
Miles Kendrick immediately flashed his law license and said with a smile, "We’re here to solve a problem, not to fight. There’s no need for you all to be so tense."
"By the way, who are all these guys to you?"
Miranda Morgan lied through her teeth. "They’re all my younger brothers."
"Heh..." Evan Yates let out a sarcastic laugh. "You have that many little brothers? Your family must be really fertile."
"...None of your business!" Miranda Morgan shot him a vicious glare.
Miles Kendrick said, "Of course, your brothers are none of our business. We’re just curious, what kind of work do all these brothers of yours do? Since their wages are in arrears, do they need any legal aid?"
"I’m a professional lawyer. I can offer you a free consultation."
"Get lost!" Miranda Morgan wasn’t falling for his act and even retorted provocatively, "Stop with the snide remarks. If you think our work isn’t clean, you’re welcome to call the cops and have them investigate. I’ll be waiting."
"...Hmph." Miles Kendrick just chuckled and didn’t take the bait.
’People in their line of work usually have a ’protective umbrella.’ If calling the police could actually get them investigated, they wouldn’t be standing here so brazenly right now.’
’As a lawyer, Miles Kendrick knew better than anyone how deep the waters ran.’
"COUGH COUGH COUGH!"
Jasper Linden, who hadn’t said a word since arriving, suddenly let out a few coughs.
Evan Yates turned to him and asked softly, "What’s wrong? You have a cold?"
"No." Jasper Linden covered his nose, his brow deeply furrowed. "It’s just that the air here feels a little unpleasant. It’s like there’s a whiff of cheap chicken."
"...Pfft!"
The remark nearly made Evan Yates and the others die laughing.
Miranda Morgan and her "brothers" flushed red, their composure clearly broken.
"Who are you calling out?" Miranda Morgan demanded shrilly, glaring at Jasper Linden.
Jasper Linden twitched his lips into a smug grin. "Whoever’s getting worked up, that’s who."
"You—" Miranda Morgan nearly died of anger.
Seeing her being wronged, her brothers righteously stepped forward to defend her.
"What’s your problem? You think it’s okay to bully a woman?"
Evan Yates shot back, "You lot have the nerve to show up here begging, so why shouldn’t we have the nerve to bully her?"
The argument erupted in an instant, and a crowd of onlookers quickly gathered at the building’s entrance.
Sonia Quincy had just stepped out of the elevator when she heard the chaotic shouting.
"Sis!"
The moment Evan Yates saw her, he quickly pushed through the crowd blocking the entrance, rushing in to lead her out.
As soon as she appeared, Miranda Morgan and her brothers immediately perked up.
"Sonia Quincy!" Miranda Morgan took a few steps forward, adopting the posture of a debt collector as she roared, "You hid like a coward in your shell for so long, but didn’t we find you in the end?! Pay up! Pay up now!"
"Yeah, pay up!"
Seven or eight of the male models echoed in unison.
Evan Yates started, "I think you’ve sold your asses so much your brains have gone soft! Who the fuck owes you—"
"Evan Yates." Sonia Quincy raised a hand to stop him, signaling for him not to argue with these people.
Cut off mid-sentence, he unhappily rolled his eyes at Miranda Morgan.
Seeing Sonia Quincy, Miranda Morgan couldn’t be bothered with him anymore and just kept demanding money from her.
"Sonia Quincy, you got freebies from my place so many times back in the day. Isn’t it time you paid up?"
Sonia Quincy looked at her with a calm expression. "What are you talking about? You say I freeloaded. Do you have any proof?"
