Chapter 158: Chapter 161: Male Models Showing Up to Demand Money?
"Sonia Quincy, get the hell out here! You can run, but you can’t hide!"
"Yeah! We’ve already found your house. Did you really think you could keep hiding?"
"Paying what you owe is a fact of life! Don’t make us resort to drastic measures and expose you!"
The shouts came from several different voices; it sounded like a group of people.
Sonia Quincy and Felix Preston exchanged a baffled look, neither having any idea where the voices were coming from.
"What’s going on?" Felix Preston asked, a bit stunned.
Sonia Quincy shook her head. "I have no idea. I haven’t borrowed money from anyone."
"Sonia Quincy! Stop playing dead in there! Get out here and pay up!"
Seeing no response from Sonia, the shouts from downstairs instantly grew louder.
Sonia composed herself, pushed herself up from the sofa, and walked to the living room balcony.
The balcony was directly above the building’s main entrance, offering a clear view of the situation at the front door.
Leaning on his crutch, Felix followed and stood beside her, looking down.
In the open area in front of the building, a group of seven or eight fashionably dressed young men and one woman with red hair and heavy makeup had gathered.
They all stood with their heads tilted back, shouting Sonia’s name one after another.
"Sonia Quincy! Get your ass down here! I know you’re home!"
"Hiding like a coward in its shell won’t solve anything! You have to pay us back today!"
"What money?" Felix grew more confused the more he listened. "Sonia, did you owe them money from before?"
Sonia Quincy frowned and said coldly, "I don’t owe anyone a single cent."
Felix asked, "Then what’s with these people? Why would they suddenly come looking for you?"
"I don’t..."
Just as Sonia was about to say, "I don’t know," the red-haired, heavily made-up woman suddenly looked up towards the balcony.
Their gazes locked across the distance, and as Sonia stared at the woman’s face, she instantly remembered who she was.
Miranda Morgan. The woman who had tried to set the previous owner of this body up with an old man.
She was the head hostess of a nightclub in Aethelburg, managing a stable of "princesses" and "male models."
Recognizing her, Sonia immediately knew the identity of the men behind her—
They were all male models.
But did the original Sonia owe them money?
Sonia thought hard, and then she found her answer—
No.
The original Sonia had met Miranda Morgan after getting pregnant. Back then, the Preston Group hadn’t gone bankrupt, and Felix Preston was still one of the top tycoons in Aethelburg, capable of casually tossing around millions.
The original Sonia wasn’t short on cash at the time, and she’d never actually gotten involved with any of the male models.
This was despite Miranda’s constant prodding.
"I’m telling you, Sonia, are you really going to stay faithful to Mr. Preston? You have all these handsome pretty boys laid out before you, and you’re not even a little tempted?"
This was how the original Sonia had responded:
"I’m tempted, but I can’t. I’m already pregnant."
"Tch, what’s the big deal about being pregnant?" Miranda took a deep drag from her cigarette and shot the original Sonia a disdainful look. "You can still have fun while you’re pregnant. The guys I have know plenty of ways to make you feel good. I even picked out a few with real talent since I knew you were coming today."
"Forget it," the original Sonia had still refused. "Felix cares a lot about the baby in my belly. I don’t even know how much money I’ve gotten out of him because of this child. My pregnancy isn’t stable right now, and if something happened that affected the baby’s health, I’m worried Felix would stop giving me money."
"It took me so long to find a cash cow this good. I can’t just let him get away. So, no male models for me. Just get me some other entertainment."
"..." Miranda rolled her eyes again, annoyed, and reluctantly dismissed all the male models from the private room.
Although the original Sonia was far from honest, she had never touched any of Miranda’s men in order to protect her pregnancy, which was her excuse to demand money from Felix.
Every time she went to see Miranda, she would only watch some risqué performances or listen to gossip about Aethelburg’s other elites. She never participated in any of the more extreme activities.
Later, when Felix went bankrupt and she was out of money, Miranda no longer provided any of her paid services when she visited the nightclub.
Forget male models; she couldn’t even watch the more stimulating performances anymore.
At that time, she was less than three months pregnant, and her belly wasn’t showing. If she hadn’t said anything, no one would have known she was carrying a child.
Miranda had seen an opportunity in this. Combined with her good looks, she began urging her to become someone’s mistress under the pretext of making money.
"Felix Preston is bankrupt. That baby in your belly has lost all its value; you can’t squeeze a single penny out of it for you. Instead of wasting your life as a broke and powerless housewife by his side, why don’t you try the path I’m suggesting?"
Knowing the original Sonia was obsessed with money, Miranda had constantly whispered in her ear.
"Sonia, I’ve already found the way and the man for you. Just give me the nod, and I’ll arrange everything immediately. You’re not showing yet, so no one will notice even if you wear something revealing."
"Listen to me. Just give it a try with that man. You get fifty thousand just for trying."
The original Sonia hesitated, saying, "The doctor told me that before three months, the pregnancy isn’t stable and I can’t do... that kind of thing. It could cause a miscarriage."
"A miscarriage would be even better," Miranda said, grabbing her hand, her eyes flashing with a greedy light. "If you miscarry while you’re with him, you could extort a huge sum of money! I’m not kidding, that man would pay at least sixty thousand!"
"Sixty thousand..."
The original Sonia had been tempted at the time, but considering there was still some hope with Ethan Lockwood, she hadn’t agreed to Miranda’s plan.
But Miranda hadn’t given up. She had been sending people to harass her ever since, trying to turn her into a tool for making money.
Sonia carefully reviewed the entire history between the original Sonia and Miranda Morgan in her mind but found no instance where a debt was owed to Miranda or her male models.
But if there was no debt, why would they show up demanding money?
Sonia’s brow furrowed in thought. After a moment, a suspicion began to form.
"Sonia Quincy! I see you! Get the hell down here and pay me back!"
Miranda pointed up at her, her already large eyes bulging like bells.
Without a word, Sonia suddenly turned and walked toward the door.
