Chapter 157: Chapter 160: Baby, Good Night
Felix Preston and Sonia Quincy officially moved back into the Preston family home. To ensure they would be comfortable, Mrs. Preston had vacated the master bedroom for them. She even had Lynn Preston personally go to a home goods store to pick out a trendy bedding set and some simple bedroom decor.
"Ah, this room is so comfortable!"
After washing up, Sonia Quincy stretched out languidly on the bed, letting out a contented sigh.
Felix Preston placed his crutches by the bedside and carefully climbed onto the bed, lying down next to Sonia Quincy.
"A lot more comfortable than our old rental, isn’t it?"
"Of course." Sonia Quincy raised an eyebrow, not hesitating with her praise. "This room is spacious and clean, and it even has a large balcony. It’s definitely more comfortable than that rental."
Hearing this, Felix Preston couldn’t help but turn his head to look at her. "Sonia, that time when you were living with me in the rental... was it really hard on you?"
"Not at all." Sonia Quincy turned her head, her gaze soft as it met Felix Preston’s.
"Even though that rental was old, shabby, and small, I never once felt like it was a hardship living there."
"Why?" Felix Preston raised his hand to gently brush a stray strand of hair from Sonia Quincy’s face.
Sonia Quincy looked at him and smiled. "Because you were there. You always kept the house spotless. The moment there was any dirty laundry, you’d toss it in the machine, and you’d hang it up to dry as soon as it was finished. You never forgot about the trash piling up by the door, either."
"You took care of everything so well. How could I possibly have felt mistreated living with you?"
"But what I did was far from enough." Felix Preston gently booped Sonia Quincy’s nose, his gaze as tender as a lake’s surface rippling in the warm spring sun.
"Sonia, I promised you a life free from worry, a life where you wouldn’t have to endure mistreatment from anyone. But I haven’t accomplished any of that yet."
"It’s okay." Sonia Quincy’s smile was so sweet and charming it filled Felix Preston’s heart with a bursting warmth.
"Your studio is doing better and better now. I’m sure you’ll fulfill your promise to me very soon. You can do it, Felix Preston."
A smile touched Felix Preston’s lips. "Okay, I will."
"Let’s get some sleep." Sonia Quincy reached over and switched off the warm bedside lamp, then pulled the covers over herself and closed her eyes in comfort.
"Time to sleep!" Felix Preston wriggled under the covers, burrowing closer to wrap his arms around her.
She deliberately jangled the Gold Bracelet on her wrist a few times, showing it off smugly. "Mom gave me this Gold Bracelet. You don’t have one, do you...?"
Felix Preston gently pushed her hand down and held her a little tighter, saying with a laugh, "Nope, I don’t. You’re the only one in the entire family who has one."
"La la la!" Sonia Quincy hummed a nonsensical tune, freeing her hand from Felix Preston’s grasp and giving the bracelet another childish jangle.
"Sleep," Felix Preston commanded, pressing her hand down again.
"La la la!" Like a disobedient kindergartener, she pulled her hand free for a third time.
Patiently, he caught her hand again. Then, with a resigned sigh, he nibbled her ear and murmured, "Baby, be a good girl and sleep, okay? You’ve had a long day."
"...Alright."
Outwardly, Sonia Quincy was embarrassed to be called ’Baby,’ but she secretly enjoyed it immensely.
The moment he called her by that name, she would obediently settle down to sleep.
Her light breathing soon deepened into a slow, steady rhythm. Nestled in the crook of Felix Preston’s arm, Sonia Quincy slept soundly and peacefully.
Felix Preston opened his eyes in the darkness, silently gazing at the sleeping woman in his arms.
’Sonia Quincy looks so peaceful when she’s asleep.’ Her eyes were gently closed, and her long, slightly downturned eyelashes would occasionally flutter with her breath, like two light, restless feathers.
Beneath those lashes was her elegant and delicate face, with the graceful bridge of her shapely nose. And below her nose were her lips, which looked so incredibly kissable.
Felix Preston studied her slowly, and after a moment, he couldn’t resist reaching out to caress her cheek.
Her face was so small, Felix Preston could cover two-thirds of it with a single palm.
He exerted the slightest pressure to turn Sonia Quincy’s face toward him. As he leaned down to capture her lips, he continued to caress her cheek with his fingertips, unable to pull his hand away.
Asleep, Sonia Quincy didn’t respond, leaving Felix Preston to steal his kiss.
Tonight was the first time they had shared a bed in over two months. Logically, as a man who had only recently had his first taste of intimacy, Felix Preston should have been struggling for control.
But for some reason, he had no such intentions tonight.
He took advantage of her slumber to kiss her, not out of lust, but simply because he wanted to. He wanted to express his love for her, and the ache in his heart for all she had been through.
Beyond that, he had no other desires.
"Baby."
When the kiss ended, he gently nuzzled Sonia Quincy’s cheek with the bridge of his nose and whispered into her ear, "Goodnight, Baby."
"I love you."

The house had a study, and Felix Preston began working from there after he was discharged from the hospital.
Sonia Quincy, who loved the master bedroom’s balcony, moved her desk out onto it.
The view was excellent. Watching the sun rise and set, the residents of the complex coming and going, and the leaves of the camphor tree in the courtyard fluttering down—it all made even her deadline rushes feel motivating.
Felix Preston was someone who deeply respected others’ privacy. Even though he and Sonia Quincy were husband and wife, he always knocked before entering the room if she was busy working. That was why she could hole up on the balcony to rush her work, feeling completely at ease and uninhibited.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK—
Speak of the devil, Felix Preston was knocking on the master bedroom door.
Sonia Quincy reflexively gathered the drawing papers on her desk and called toward the door, "What is it?"
Felix Preston’s clear, warm voice came from the other side. "Sonia, come out for some fruit. Take a break."
Sonia Quincy stretched her sore shoulders and neck, then answered brightly, "Okay!"
After adding one last detail to her drawing, Sonia Quincy tidied her things, left the balcony, and went out to the living room.
Felix Preston was sitting on the sofa. As soon as he saw her, he smiled and patted the spot beside him.
"Sonia, come sit."
Sonia Quincy walked over, holding her belly, and slumped down lazily beside him.
He held out a bowl of pomegranate arils he had prepared earlier, then scooped up a heaping spoonful and fed it to her.
Savoring the sweet juice, Sonia Quincy asked curiously, "Felix Preston, how did you manage to deseed a pomegranate on crutches?"
Felix Preston raised his eyebrows. "I brought a small stool over, propped my broken leg on it so I didn’t need the crutches for a minute, and that freed up my hands to do it for you."
"Oh..." Sonia Quincy nodded, then gave Felix Preston a thumbs-up. "You’re amazing!"
Felix Preston began, "I can even—"
"Sonia Quincy!"
"Sonia Quincy, I know you live here! Get out and pay what you owe!"
Before Felix Preston could finish his boast, a sudden, rude shout cut him off.
